Ryder Cup Wildcard Dilemma

The Ryder Cup Qualification Process is nearing the end, after the last major of the season the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills CC. Qualification for Team Europe ends on Sunday, August 31, 2008, or after the completion of the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.

The team is selected from the Top 5 players on the Ryder Cup World Points List & the next 5 players who have not already qualified via the Ryder Cup European Points List, with the final 2 places being made up of wild card picks by Nick Faldo.

Current Team would be:
Padraig Harrington – Ire
Lee Westwood – Eng
Sergio Garcia – Spa
Henrik Stenson – Swe
Robert Karlsson – Swe
Miguel A Jimenez – Spa
Graeme McDowell – NI
Justin Rose – Eng
Oliver Wilson – Eng
Soren Hansen ? Den

So the question on everyone?s lips is who will Faldo pick as his wildcards?

Ian Poulter has played well in the Major?s this year but will need to finish high in the remaining tournaments to not require a wild card pick.

Colin Montgomerie is struggling for form but will Faldo go for his Ryder Cup experience & points record?

Darren Clarke who was the star of an emotional win at the K Club in 2006 has not played well this year but found form at the start of August to finish 6th in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational.

Paul Casey is another golfer who has played well in the Major?s this year but has not quite made selection and there are quite a few lining up to try and clinch that 10th place, Martin Kaymer, Ross Fisher & Nick Dougherty are all within a few hundred Euros of the last automatic place.
