On Friday 31st July the truly spectacular Hillside Golf Club, Southport, played host venue to The Your Golf Travel Charity Golf Day in association with Pure Golf Events. The event was dedicated to supporting Help for Heroes, who support all our service personnel injured in current conflicts around the world.
Your Golf Travel together with Pure Golf Events are dedicated to do all they can to assist Help for Heroes through our love of golf.
The week before the event, the weather was less than spectacular and the thought of 180 golfers playing golf in the rain didn’t fill the organisers with a great deal of confidence, but imagine their delight to wake up the morning of the event to sunny skies and shirt sleeve order. Indeed the comment by Martyn, head green keeper at Hillside Golf Club who does a spectacular job summed it up completely; “The sun shines on the righteous”
Everybody who had read the reviews of Hillside GC knew a tough round of golf could be expected and many golfers tell tales of what a fantastic course it is, even rivalling its more famous neighbour Royal Birkdale. A testament indeed to the exceptional job the greens staff do under the guidance of head green keeper Martyn and under the supervision of Mr Simon Newland, club secretary; a true gentleman in every sense of the word.
Pure Golf Events had promised a spectacular day by keeping all attendees informed of all the latest news about the event in the weeks leading up to the day which really got the juices flowing and the level of expectation rivalled any full Tour Event.
Everything promised was even better than our expectations. Obviously the course was stunning (the best we have ever played) but the overall presentation and organisation of the day was just as impressive. Absolutely nothing had been left to chance. All facilities from the practice area to the tee presentations (magnificently dressed), registration and administration, photographers, video and introduction on the first were run as professionally as we have seen and definitely made all feel very special.
One guest went onto say “I have worked in golf for some time and attended many corporate golf days but I have never been involved in anything better than this including the Oceanico Two Day Pro-Am event at Worsley Park”
Post golf all guests were treated to a trick show spectacular by Mr Dave Edwards who impressed all with his ability and had the audience in awe on several occasions with his vast array of shots that defied belief.
Dinner passed with Dave Edwards showing a rerun of his video commentary that had people reaching for their phones to book their next golf lesson and the prize giving commenced. It was testimony to the calibre of reward on offer that so many had stayed to watch, win or bid on items that must have taken quite some negotiating to acquire and to witness such a prize table at an AM event served further testament to the dedication of Your Golf Travel and Pure Golf Events to deliver the perfect golf day.
Guests, who stayed on for the presentation, over 150, were treated to over 30 minutes of Mr Stan Boardman and Mr Ron Atkinson at their magnificent best. Stan god bless him, had the whole room in hysterics and his absence from our TV screens is a loss to us all.
After all the dust had settled and all the missed putts and “if only” comments had been put to bed, the champions for the day were the team from PlayGolf Manchester who fully deserved their week in Spain.
More importantly all who attended vowed to return next year insisting that they had been involved in something really special
Help for Heroes was the big winner as the day managed to raise £11,000 for our injured troops and it was all down to the generosity of everybody who was involved.
