Tiger Woods Hurt in Car Accident

World number one Tiger Woods has been treated in hospital in Florida after being injured in a car crash outside his home.

Reports originally suggested that Woods’ injuries were serious but it has since been revealed they were not so; however Woods does have facial lacerations according to a spokesman.

The incident happened in Isleworth, near Orlando in the early hours of Friday morning although it wasn’t until much later that Florida Highway Patrol revealed any details pertaining to the accident.

Woods is believed to have crashed his 2009 Cadillac SUV first into a fire hydrant and then a neighbour’s tree. The airbag collision-safety feature of his vehicle failed to deploy, which suggests Woods either was driving at below 33mph or the system was faulty.

He was taken to Health Central Hospital in Ocoee, Florida following the incident but later released after treatment.

Woods was due to contest the Chevron World Challenge title, for which he is the host, beginning on Tuesday. However, today’s incident casts some doubt about his participation in that event. Woods won the title in 2001, 2004, 2006 and 2007 but missed last year’s competition following knee surgery.
