Woods to return in March for Tavistock Cup?
Rumours abound that Tiger Woods has set the date of his return to competitive golf with showbiz blog TMZ reporting the shamed world number one will play in the Tavistock Cup event in his home state of Florida.
The Tavistock Cup tournament sees pros from the Isleworth Golf & Country Club take on their counterparts from the nearby Lake Nona Golf & Country Club. This year’s event takes place March 22 and 23 at the Isleworth Golf & Country Club.
The rumour, which has apparently been leaked by someone who works for the Woods family comes only two days after Woods checked out of rehab and the player is believed to be returning to his home in Windermere sometime next week.
With a prize pot in excess of $3.5million, the Tavistock Cup attracts many of the Tour’s top players from both the PGA and LPGA. Past participants in the event include Robert Allenby, JB Holmes, Paula Creamer and Darren Clarke for Isleworth while Lake Nona has been represented by Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Sergio Garcia and Annika Sorenstam in recent years.
Should he play in the event, Woods will likely use the Tavistock Cup as his prep event for the US Masters at the beginning of April as well as using the opportunity to let the media storm subside ahead of his probable assault on a fifth Green Jacket.
