1) Montecastillo Golf Resort, Cadiz, Spain (4 Miles from Jerez Airport or alternatively 1 hour from Sevilla or Gibraltar airports) - pictured above

Nothing quite like showing your best card early on. This has to be without doubt the very best value golf holiday available on the market. Boasting a Championship Nicklaus designed golf course and a five star hotel, Montecastillo is popular with golfers and non-golfers alike. The resort features 208 bedrooms spread amongst two buildings of traditional Spanish style and also a host of leisure facilities including a two international standard football pitches that have had the likes of Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid place their jumpers down for goalposts.

Interesting fact –
As a previous European Tour venue hosting the Volvo Masters between 1997 and 2001, Montecastillo has some great champions who have walked the fairways, not least the might Miguel Angel Jimenez who claimed the title in 2000 to become the first home grown winner.

Aroeira Golf Resort2) Aroeira Golf Resort, Herdade de Aroeira, Portugal (13 miles from Lisbon Airport)
Did someone say I want unlimited golf on two different courses, self catering accommodation and somewhere near Lisbon. Well although that is a very specialist request if you were ever thinking about grabbing a bargain Portugal golf holiday, this has to be the best out there. With two-treelined layouts in the imaginatively named Aroeira I and Aroeira II, golfers of all standards will enjoy the fast running fairways and imposing pine trees which frame the holes. As a past European Tour venue, the Aroeira I course measures an enjoyable 6,600 yards but accuracy is definitely the watchword when plotting your way round here as offline drives will result in lost golf balls!

Interesting fact –
None other than Sky Sports commentator Wayne ‘Radar’ Riley took the title in the 1996 Portuguese Open with a -13 total for the tournament. Included in the field that week were Retief Goosen, Lee Westwood, Padraig Harrington & Angel Cabrera.

Oceanico Millennium3) Praia Sol Hotel, just outside of Vilamoura, Portugal (25 minutes from Faro airport)
Located just outside of the bustling Marina that is Vilamoura, Praia Sol is one of the best value hotels for anyone taking a Vilamoura golf holiday. Golfers across the land travel to this sunny part of the Algarve in search of the golf, Super Bock beer and some disco music. Thankfully Vilamoura offers golfers the perfect setting for some après golf and most importantly the opportunity to make their very own 19th hole in the likes of Figo sports bar. Golfers have a range of courses within easy striking distance from Praia Sol so can look to pit their wits against the likes of the Oceanico Victoria, Oceanico Old or even my favourite Quinta do Lago.

Interesting fact –
Vilamoura apparently is derived from the Village of the Moors who lived in the area some time ago (even before the Vilamoura Old course was built so must be a while back!)

Estepona Golf Course4) AGH Estepona, Costa del Sol, Spain (13 miles from the Port of Abuse (Puerto Banus), 55 miles from Malaga airport)
The Costa del Sol or Costa del Golf if you like…is jam packed with some impressive golf courses. As a result golfers flock here in a migratory pattern which is hard to understand or comprehend, all we know is that they come, they golf and they often drink San Miguel. Located just a little bit further down the coast from the mighty Puerto Banus, Estepona still has a lot to offer for those looking for a place to contemplate their 3-putt on the 18th hole. AGH Estepona is a centrally located hotel and also offers golfers some self catering accommodation as well as packages including Unlimited Golf which is perfect for even the keenest of beans out there.

Interesting fact –
There are more than 60 golf courses on the Costa del Sol. There are great differences between the many areas along the coast with the likes of La Cala, Alhaurin and Monte Mayor all built around large hills to create visually stunning and difficult layouts. Further down towards Sotogrande, Valderrama, Real Clube de Sotogrande & La Reserva offer a more parkland and treelined style.

CS Vila Lagoas5) CS Vila Lagoas Apartments, near Albufeira, Portugal (30 minutes from Faro Airport)
Despite only opening in late September 2008, these luxury apartments are very popular amongst golf holiday makers. With a beach one side and a golf course the other, CS Vila Lagoas has a rather enviable position. With bundles of modern amenities within the apartments, the rest of your travelling companions are sure to give you a pat on the back upon arriving at this golf resort. Included within the package is golf at the links style layout at Salgados which I will warn you to take plenty of golf balls for if you stray offline. The other two courses are approximately 25 minutes from the accommodation in Morgado and Alamos. Both layouts are spread over vast amounts of land with plenty of elevation changes, all in all they’re top quality layouts and off the back tees separate the men from the boys!

Interesting fact –
Salgados golf is the only links course on the Algarve and also features water on 17 out of the 18 holes – buy some balls before you go!

This fantastic beach-side four-star resort has been a firm favourite with travelling golfers. Drawn by the opportunity of playing the exclusive North and South golf courses, Guadalmina is a popular destination for both couples and groups alike. Anyone looking to kick back and relax can do so in the splendid spa which features more treatments than you can shake a stick at.

La Mer7) Le Touquet Golf Tour, Northern France (30 minutes from Calais)
Le Touquet or great golfing destination in English (I’m not 100% sure that’s the exact translation) is an absolute must visit for anyone looking for a little bit of Joie de vivre for their next golfing break. Although the old town of Le Touquet may look a little sleepy on first impressions, in the evening it comes alive courtesy of numerous bars and restaurants as well as a rather swanky Casino. Although the après golf on offer has more than enough satisfy even the night owls out there, it is the golf that brings thousands here every year. Located just a short drive outside of the town are the famed La Mer and Le Foret courses which absolutely superb. With the likes of Belle Dune, Wimereux and Hardelot not far away there is plenty to keep even those who have visited for many years entertained.

Interesting fact –
Le Touquet is often referred to as Paris by the Sea. I’m not entirely sure if this is meant to be a compliment…

Fairplay Golf Resort8 ) Fairplay Luxury All Inclusive Golf Resort, Benalup, Spain (39 Miles from Gibraltar & Cadiz)
Oooooohhhhh, we all love a bit of five-star hotels don’t we, as this is the third to appear we thought we’d make it rather special. If I said to you travel away to a rather snazzy boutique hotel for three nights, play three rounds of golf and have all of your food and drink included for less than £300 you’d probably grab your clubs and be off. Souillac Country Club9) Souillac Country Club, Dordogne, South West France (90 mins or less from Toulouse, Limoges and Bergerac airports)
With a par of 67 Souillac is a golf course born out of course management rather than length to manage to get your ball round in par. Set within idyllic French countryside, this is a destination perfect for anyone wanting a little bit of peace and quiet. Accommodation comes in the form of lodges which can accommodate up to 10 guests and are a perfect place to sit back and relax while enjoying a glass of the local vin blanc or rouge.

I’ve just booked up to Montecastillo with you guys, that’s a great offer and look forward to trying out those football pitches!

The offer at Fairplay is great, I went there earlier in the year and would recommend it. They’ve got lots of different restaurants to eat in and the leisure facilities are absoutely superb, for £279 that can’t be beaten.
