In an ideal world we would all like to be able to go on a golf break with our own clubs and personal car in tow. With Eurotunnel, Your Golf Travel.com’s preferred short sea crossing provider, this is all possible. Enjoy the freedom of your own car and the space it provides for all the essential bits and bobs you could ever need on a European golf holiday. As golfers we all develop a fondness for our own golf clubs and playing with another set can be strangely uncomfortable. Perhaps then, the biggest bonus of this mode of transport is being able to play courses around Europe with your clubs!
With its own motorway junction (11a M20), access to the Passenger Terminal could not be more convenient. With a crossing time of just 35 minutes you will be on the shores of France before you know it and can then simply drive off the shuttle and start your golfing adventure then and there!
If this convenience and comfort appeals to you then we have the perfect guide to the best accommodation and golf courses in Northern France and Belgium that you would be crazy to miss on your Eurotunnel golf tour!
Northern France
Just 45 minutes from Calais, the town of Le Touquet is the most easily accessible destination for your golf tour of Northern France. With a buzzing nightlife featuring bars, nightclubs and elegant casino there is something on offer for everyone away from the numerous beautiful golf courses. We recommend you check out the Hotel Hermitage which lies 11 miles inland of the town of Le Touquet, making it an ideal place to relax in between playing golf and embarking on a fun filled night on the town. The dining options in Le Touquet are also outstanding. Be sure to get in a round of golf at the Aa Saint-Omer Golf Club. This is one of the most famous in France and boasts a stunning championship course as well as a shorter academy course, making it a great destination for talented and casual players alike. This is a great place to start your Eurotunnel golf tour with a bang!
Hardelot is a charming coastal town and is home to some of France’s most adored golf clubs. Tucked away in a tranquil park and mature woodland, you will find the Best Western Hotel Du Parc. This is Hardelot’s most popular hotel with visiting golfers and the comfortable surroundings and outstanding service makes it the perfect place to take a load off after a long day on the fairways of the stunning golf courses in the surrounding area. As a golfer it would be criminal to pass through Hardelot and not pay Golf D’Hardelot a visit. One of France’s elite golfing destinations, Golf D’Hardelot boasts not one but two stunning championship courses; Les Pins and Les Dunes. If you are forced to choose between the two it would be foolish to turn down a crack at the Les Pins course. This gorgeous layout winds its way through Hardelot’s pine forest and demands sound strategy and accuracy rather than brute strength and ignorance. It is true parkland great. Don’t fret if you have to settle for the Les Dunes course; you won’t be disappointed!
Just a short drive from Calais, Arras is a vibrant little town that features two town squares and a host of bars, restaurants and nightclubs to keep golfers entertained during the evening and perhaps long into the night! Golf holiday makers based in Arras will also have the option of making the short trip into the neighbouring city of Lille, France’s fourth largest. Hotels in the town centre are more than adequate but we would recommend the Hotel du Golf d’Arras, which overlooks the famous Le Golf D’Arras golf course. Another of Northern Frances championship courses, this course starts on the low lying marshlands works its way up into the hills through the back nine, providing players with an eclectic mixture of holes. Host of the French Open on the Ladies European Tour since the year 2000, this course is a must while on your Eurotunnel golf holiday.
Situated between Rouen and Dieppe, and adjacent to the Eawy forest that is renowned for being one of the most beautiful beech groves of France, Golf Hotel De Saint-Saëns is a little further from Calais than our other destinations but is certainly worth the trip. For accommodation, a wise choice is the lovely Chateau du Vaudichon. Here guests can enjoy the undeniably beautiful estate and views over the Saint-Saëns golf course. The course itself is one of the prettiest in Normandy with winding fairways cut from the surrounding forest and a network of natural streams that place an emphasis on precision during the front nine holes. All things considered, Saint-Saëns is an idyllic setting for a golf break in the North of France.
If you are in search of an intimate base for your Eurotunnel golf break in Belgium then look no further than the majestic 5* Martin’s Château Du Lac. Situated on the banks of the beautiful Genval Lake and only a couple of hours from Calais, it features immaculate guestrooms and outstanding service indicative of 5* accommodation. While on your golf holiday in Brussels, be sure to sample the delights of the Royal Waterloo Golf Club, one of Belgium’s most prestigious clubs. Situated within touching distance of the historical Waterloo battle site this club is in the enviable position of boasting two stunning championship courses, La Marache and Le Lion. La Marache is the more established of the two with Le Lion only being completed in 1980. This is however, a rare situation in that both courses are held in the same high esteem. Thus the Royal Waterloo Golf Club is a club you can’t afford to miss.
Steeped in centuries of tragic history, Bruges attracts visitors eager to drink in the city’s eclectic past and experience a perfectly conserved medieval city. As if the culture on offer in Bruges wasn’t enough there are also ample opportunities to enjoy some golf on your next Eurotunnel golf break. Book yourself in at the Martin’s Hotel where you can enjoy its stylish guestrooms that ooze contemporary class and are adorned with all the modern amenities you could desire. We recommend the Damme Golf and Country Club, which is just 11 miles from Martin’s Hotel. Designed around the natural features of the land, including graceful grasslands and towering poplars, this championship parkland course has been sculpted around a network of natural lakes that provide the courses main defence. As the closest course to Bruges itself, this beautiful track is a great example of the golfing delights on offer near this amazing medieval town.
