Our golf holiday in Portugal was fantastic and I wanted to say thanks to Your Golf Travel for all the hard work.
We stayed at the Hotel Apartmento do Golfe and this was the second time we have done so. It is truly a place to relax and unwind in very pleasant surroundings. We stayed in the studio apartments which are very spacious and well equipped. The staff were very attentive and friendly and there was no fighting for sun beds as there was plenty of space around the pool area. The hotel is located within walking distance of 4 of the 5 courses we played, and there is a driving range nearby as well.
So on to the Golf…
We played 5 rounds in 7 days which is a fair old slog for us and that was purely down to the quality if the courses. As they say…when in Rome!
The Oceanico Millennium was a thoroughly enjoyable course as it was testing but fair to the average golfer. The abundance of pine trees gave it quite an atmosphere and it is one of the prettiest courses I have played.
The Oceanico Laguna course was also enjoyable and as its name would suggest there was plenty of water around the course. It felt a little more exposed than the other courses due to the lack of trees that are more prominent on the likes of the Millennium.
Both of these courses were in great condition and had very fast greens which made putting tricky but fun!
Oceanico Pinhal was a short drive down the road about 5 minutes away and this course was certainly a challenge. This course winds its way through the housing estates and there are some outstanding villas to admire as you play. The course itself is protected by umbrella pines and if you are wayward from the tee, you will definitely have to take your medicine and chip out sideways.
The fourth course we played was the Oceanico Victoria course and it was simply outstanding! I was told 18,000,000 Euros had been pumped into the course and the results are amazing. It is very tough and I can’t imagine how much more difficult it would be from the back tees…it makes you appreciate how good the pros really are! Thank God they give you complimentary buggies on this monster! The clubhouse, which has the Portuguese Masters trophy on display, is a real quality venue.
Our last course on our tour was the Oceanico Old Course and this is a must play in my opinion. Standing on the first tee looking down the first fairway is nerve jangling to say the least. The course seems very natural and the mature pines and water hazards make accuracy very important. The clubhouse is a pleasant place to sit and watch golfers tee off on the first hole…especially when you know what they are about to go through!
We drove in to the marina to for dinner a few times and the average taxi cost about 8 Euros. There are plenty of Restaurants to choose from on the waterfront and in the back streets. On our day off we sat on the beach which was quiet and very peaceful.
We have been visiting the Algarve for 13 years and Vilamoura is now at the top of our list of places to play golf. The quality and quantity of the courses is hard to beat and there is plenty to do away from the course.
Our Vilamoura golf tour was organised expertly by Your Golf Travel and we would definitely use them again!
