Africa is the last truly wild continent on Earth and its stunning and varied landscape has lead to the creation of some of the world’s best golf courses. From the desert golf courses of the north to the lush courses on the plains of South Africa there are courses to suit every taste. Throw in a wonderful variation in the cultures of each country and the chance to venture out on a safari and you have the recipe for the ultimate golf holiday abroad. Here are some African golf photos to get the golfing juices flowing.
The Fancourt Hotel & Country Estate is one of the finest golfing getaways in the world and with three world class golf courses on offer there are plenty of options to choose from.
The Montagu Course at Fancourt is set in the shadows of the surrounding mountains and is one of the most picturesque golf courses in Africa.
Arabella Golf Club, home to South Africa’s third best golf course, sits on the Western Cape in South Africa and makes up one part of the famous Garden Route.
The Outeniqua is another of the stunning courses at Fancourt. The lxurious Garden Suites are dotted all over the course providing the ultimate in luxury and privacy on a South Africa golf holiday.
The Residence Resort in Tunis overlooks the Mediterranean and playing golf at twighlight is a real treat.
The desert courses of Morocco offer a totally different experience to the stunning, greener courses found 10,000 miles south on the Capes of South Africa.
The Gary Player designed Fancourt Links Course is truly remarkable and is arguably the stand out course in the whole of Africa.
Tranquil water features are stewn all over the Fancourt Links Course. We would advise staying away from the edge though as you never know what nasties might be lurking beneath the surface of the water.
It is clear to see Gary Player drew his inspiration from the classic links courses in the UK & Ireland. Many courses around the world have been based on classics such as Turnberry, St Andrews and Royal Birkdale but few can do them justice. The Fancourt Links Course has managed to do just that.
Take away the mountains in the background and perhaps the glorious sunshine and the Fancourt Links could easliy pass for a traditional links course from Scotland.
The undulations are clear to see in the setting sun and I’m not sure I would be so keen to venture into that long rough looking for stray golf balls…you never know what might pop up to say hello!
The courses on the coast of Morocco are a delight to play and the Mazagan is one of the finest in the region.
Heading inland Mazagan takes on a whole new character and a round of golf here is a fantastic experience.
The Xtreme 19th hole at the Legend Golf & Safari Resort is one of the most thrilling golf experiences anywhere in the world. Teeing off from the top of the Hanglip Mountain you play to a giant Africa shaped green 1,300 feet below.
The tee on the Xtreme 19th is only accessible by Helicopter and is certainly no place for people with vertigo! Although the allure of the $1,000,000 on offer for a hole-in-one may be too strong to resist!
