Wouldn’t it be nice if the weather would make its mind up? One week glorious sunshine, the next torrents of rain that sadly aren’t at all golf-friendly, and no doubt play havoc with the efforts of aspiring golf travellers out there. While we won’t hear a bad word spoken of the golf courses in our own fair land, even we can’t tell you that the sun will be shining on Bournemouth in a couple of weeks’ time. As our American friends would say, time for a turnkey solution! And it comes in the shape of Tenerife.
High average temperatures, low rainfall, sea breezes, comfortable humidity – all those important things that pack out the top of the golf travel checklist for many of us are not a problem for Tenerife. What’s more, the flight time is pretty short and plenty of carriers follow the well-trodden route into the island’s Reina Sofia Airport (also known as Tenerife South Airport). You may see where we’re going with this one… golf break, sunshine, May / June time…Bognor Regis is not the answer! Grab the clubs and jet to Tenerife this spring, where tropical climes and some splendid courses await your arrival.
Abama Golf Resort is home to a stunning Dave Thomas designed golf course.
Most of our favourites are in the south of the island, not far from the popular tourist resort centres, but Tenerife’s golf courses and resorts appeal even more when you consider the fantastic variety on offer. Let’s start at the top with the opulent Abama Resort, located roughly halfway up the island’s western shoreline, one of Europe’s most sought after destinations; this is the spot for couples and small groups in search of the best in service, dining and facilities, not to mention golf and accommodation that is truly five star. The views aren’t half bad either!
Water is a key feature at Las Americas.
Sticking on that coast, we’re also big fans of Golf Costa Adeje, a 27-hole golf complex carved out of the distinctly Canarian landscape that has European Tour pedigree. Gaze across to La Gomera Island and enjoy a really stern test of golf – not to be missed. Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas are the tourist hot spots that will be best known to many, but perhaps not from a golfing perspective. However, with our hand-picked accommodation options, they can form the ideal base for a top value Tenerife golf holiday.
Golf Del Sur is home to three fantastic loops of nine.
Plump for the likes of the Gran Oasis Resort, the Vincci Tenerife or the luxurious Hotel Las Madrigueras, and you will enjoy immediate access to some much-loved courses. Try Golf Las Americas, Golf del Sur and the Amarilla Country Club, and you have a few days’ golf that will be packed with variety, no little challenge but excellent value for money. From self-catered to all inclusive accommodation options, we’re confident that we’ll have something to suit almost any demand, and more confident yet that magnificent Tenerife will exceed your expectations.
Your Golf Travel is offering five-night packages including three rounds of golf in Tenerife starting at £259 per person.
The resident golf geek at Your Golf Travel. Have been lucky enough to have travelled far and wide playing golf and if I’m not writing about it at work, you will probably find me hacking it around my local course. Owner of 2 holes in one and some of the most crooked drives you have ever seen!
