What is the worst thing that could happen to a golfer en route to their dream golf holiday to one of the finest golf resorts in the world? Losing their clubs in transit of course!
Unfortunately that is exactly what happened to PGA Tour Pro Brandt Snedeker while on his way to compete in the Volvo World Matchplay Championships at the magnificent Finca Cortesin Golf Resort on the Costa del Sol in Spain.
Ok so I accept Snedeker wasn’t on his way to enjoy a week or relaxing by the pool and a few rounds of leisurely golf on one of the finest golf courses in the whole of Europe; he was there to compete for his next pay check and the honour of being the World Matchplay Champion but come on…losing your beloved clubs is never a good thing!
At Finca Cortesin you can follow in the footsteps of the best payers on the planet. Why not travel as a group and have your own matchplay championship?
The 31-year-old American was forced to begin his opening match with just 10 clubs in his bag and yet won the first three holes before more arrived. Snedeker was forced to seek replacements when his usual set went missing en route from Florida on Monday. They eventually showed up at Malaga Airport, then were driven to Finca Cortesin an hour away and taken to him on the fourth tee.
Under the rules of golf he was allowed only to add four of his own clubs to those he had borrowed or bought from the top class pro shop at the resort, but was so happy with the driver he had borrowed from Australian John Senden and the putter he had chosen in said pro shop that he continued with them.
Finca Cortesin calls for accuracy throughout but especially with your approach shots into the tricky greens. Those who like to be creative on the golf course will love it here!
“The driver worked really well, so I think it’s mine now and no longer his,” said the three-time PGA Tour winner.
“It was kind of a weird day to say the least. I didn’t like my chances at all actually – I knew Thomas (Bjorn) was a world-class player and it was pretty windy, so I knew it favoured him.”
Snedeker would eventually go on to win 5&4 proving that no matter what happens en route to Finca Cortesin, every cloud has a silver lining!
Even if the American had lost his opening round, things wouldn’t have been so bad! What better way to relieve the stress of being dumped out in the first round than by taking a few days to soak up all that Finca Cortesin has to offer?
The accommodation at Finca Cortesin reflects the supreme quality of the championship golf course.
Adjoined to the championship golf course – host of the Volvo World Matchplay – is a luxury hotel boasting 67 opulent suites, giving it a uniquely intimate atmosphere compared with more expansive 5* resorts across Europe. Stunning furniture and elegant décor are the hallmarks of this landmark hotel, which has redefined the landscape in southern Spain for golf holidays.
And it isn’t just the top class accommodation supplementing the golf course at Finca Cortesin. Those going out in the early rounds of the Volvo World Matchplay can get away from it all thanks to a superb indoor swimming pool and an excellent gym as well as the resort’s luxury spa, where a selection of indulgent treatments are on offer to help wash away the stresses and strains of everyday life.
There are few better ways to follow a round of golf than with a relaxing session in a lavish spa.
Whether you are a tour pro looking to perk up your spirits or an ardent golfer looking for the best Spain has to offer, Finca Cortesin is for you!
