Well, the results are in…the Claret Jug has been handed over to…well according to Your Golf Travel customers England’s Justin Rose. Sweeping home with over 27% of the vote the 2013 US Open champion, Rose is expected to claim his maiden Open Championship on Sunday. In second place was the bookies favourite Jordan Spieth with 24% of golfers thinking the Texas native could go onto claim his first Open in what would be a trio of Majors for him in this record breaking season.
Now, whilst the winners of our recent quiz might not surprise that many, we did see some interesting numbers appear from certain demographics of golfers when looking at handicap and age. For example, the single figured golfers actually thought that long driving supremo Dustin Johnson would claim victory with 32% of low handicappers opting for him over Rose and Spieth.
Proving that Tiger Woods still has the belief of the “Colts” or “Intermediate” members of the club with 20% of golfers aged 18-24 thinking that Tiger will tame St Andrews for a third time. This belief however isn’t shared by the older statesmen of golf with 0% of golfers aged 45 and over thinking he’ll win! What do you think? The bookies certainly think there is more than 0% of him winning with odds starting at around 33/1.
Poor Phil, just 2% of golfers playing off 20 or higher think he’ll win. Don’t worry Phil, if you feel glum just look at that rather snazzy trophy you won round Muirfield in 2013, to quote Peter Alliss “by jolly” you played well that year.
