The PGA Tour heads to Canada and the Glen Abbey Golf Club this week as some players look to brush aside the fatigue caused from the gruelling Open Championship. But despite the short rest, there is still a strong field looking to compete for their share of the £2.9 million and 500 FedEx cup points on offer.
As the third oldest continually-running tournament on the PGA Tour schedule behind the Open Championship and U.S Open, the Canadian Open boasts a long and rich history. However, the home faithful are pining for a Canadian to finally win on home soil. It has been 61 years since it last happened when Pat Fletcher claimed victory in Vancouver all the way back in 1954.
For that reason alone, we don’t think this will be the year to change the history books and will avoid any of the 16 Canadians all looking to get their hands on the trophy.
South African Tim Clark claimed victory last year whilst Brandt Snedeker was the last person to win at this venue in 2013. With eight players in the top 25 Fedex Cup rankings, 13 tour winners and nine past champions taking part, the field is wide open as 19th hole pick their tips for the Canadian Open.
