Well we hate to say it but with the clocks going back next weekend, the winter is well and truly closing in on us. Dark mornings and early evenings limit the time spent on the course whilst a round of golf in icy temperatures with freezing hands and temporary greens to contend with is enough to put off even the most die-hard of golfers.
Having to scrub the mud from your clubs and limit the length of your swing because you’ve got four extra layers on mean that golf in the winter is more often a chore than a pleasure.
But just because winter is arriving, you don’t have to put up with all that nonsense when sunnier climes are just a short trip away. Here are seven courses to escape to over the winter.
There is a perception that Dubai is a playground for the rich but that is not the case and tourism is constantly on the rise. Away from the huge skyscrapers and manmade private islands, they boast a range of spectacular golf courses where the game’s leading names have been commissioned to create 18 terrific holes.
Although the heat between May and September is stifling, average temperatures in December are around 21°C with around four days of rainfall. Test your game on the Emirates Course – the first all grass championship course in the Gulf region. It is home to two championship courses including the Majlis and the Wadi Course.
The Majlis was host to the 2015 Omega Desert Classic, where Rory McIlroy finished in top spot with a score of -22. The Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course and the Els Course are also well worth a visit.
