New furore over Trump golf resort plans

March 12, 2010 by · Leave a Comment

Donald Trump’s much-maligned project for a £1bn golf resort in Aberdeenshire has been subject to angry scenes as blueprints for the project were shown to the public for the first time today.

The details of the plan for Menie, north of Aberdeen, are being shown at a two-day event at the Udny Arms Hotel in Newburgh and several people turned out to voice their continued opposition to the plans.

The project has been blighted by Menie residents’ vociferous protests against the plans which could see them forced off their land to make way for the project by way of compulsory purchase orders.

One of the protesters, Mr David Milne was apparently invited to view the plans by the company but on arrival was told to ‘clear off’ by the project director, Neil Hobday.

The blueprints for the project included detailed information on environmental, landscaping, construction and infrastructure plans, and the project will be considered by Aberdeenshire Council later in the year.

At the time of the submission of the plans, Mr Trump said it was a giant step towards the tycoon’s goal of creating the world’s greatest golf course and resort.

A campaign – Tripping Up Trump – has been created to oppose the plans and has said it will support those families which are most at threat by Trump’s plans.

De Vere Slaley Hall to stage EuroPro Tour Championship

October 20, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

After political ramifications scuppered the EuroPro Tour Championship from being held in Egypt, the event has found an alternative venue – the De Vere Slaley Hall luxury resort in Hexham, Northumberland.

The event, which will be held between October 27th -29th will take place over the resort’s The Hunting course which already boasts a proud history having previously hosted European Tour, Regional PGA and European Senior Tour events since it first opened in 1989.

The EuroPro Tour Championship will see the top 60 players from the tour Order of Merit compete for one of five tour cards for the European Challenge Tour and will carry a prize purse of £50,000. The event, which boasts free admittance will also be televised on Sky Sports.

Danny Nickless, the EuroPro Tour’s operations manager was delighted at being able to secure the use of De Vere Slaley hall at such a late stage:

“At short notice we needed a world class venue for this year’s event that has a track record in staging high profile professional tournaments. We are delighted that De Vere Slaley Hall has agreed to step in.”

With less than £10,000 separating the top 10 players, an exciting event is in prospect for one of those five available cards … good luck to all involved!
