Le Touquet Golf Review

Golf du TouquetFurther to our recent golf holiday to Le Touquet in Northern France, we all thought it a good idea to let you know we had a really good time. We set off early morning from Folkstone on the Eurotunnel which was great, just 35 minutes into Calais, really quick and smooth and would definitely recommend over a ferry.

Our accommodation was at the Bristol Hotel which was excellent both in terms of location and quality. We stayed in the refurbished rooms which were of a very high standard. The hotel has a decent resident’s bar which serves good local beer and vin rouge. The hotel is located a short walk from both the town centre and the beach and is very quiet so don’t have to worry about being kept awake from people coming out of the bars. The town centre is just a few minutes walk and there are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from, all are fairly reasonable and the food is good. The nightlife in Le Touquet is really surprising; I was expecting a sleepy town but was pleased to see lots to do in the evening, plus most importantly a really big casino which gives you the opportunity to win back the cost of your holiday in the spin of a wheel so that’s always a good thing! Some of our group were less lucky but still a combination of golf, nightlife and a casino is something I’ve not seen in a while.

Golf du TouquetWe played our golf at Le Touquet’s two nearest courses, Le Foret and La Mer. Both are top quality courses having been designed by English designers Horace Hutchinson and Harry Colt. Hutchinson’s Le Foret course is easier than Colt’s La Mer but it’s one of my favourites that I’ve played. Most of the holes are very tree-lined and is in really good condition, some good birdie opportunities on the par-5’s but you have to keep it straight off the tee otherwise there are plenty of opportunities to drop shots. La Mer is a stunning course, designed by Harry Colt of Sunningdale fame, set just a few hundred metres from the Sea can play really tough. The first is a great hole, a double dog-leg par-5 with trees on the right and left, the second a fantastic par-3, the list of great holes goes on. This was definitely the best course of our holiday and would recommend it to anyone visiting this part of France.

It was a great trip so thanks for all your help organising it for us. We’ll be in touch when our society are booking our golf holiday next year.

Belle DuneWe stayed at the Hotel Red Fox, right in the centre of the town.  We had been told the accommodation was “basic”, well if that is basic then I’ll have it every time.  The room I stayed in was large with a very good two basin en-suit bathroom.  The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was self service with more than enough selections to fill you up for the day’s golf ahead.  The Hotel was very accommodating to allow us to use the dining room for our end of tour presentation.
