rory-mcilroyUS Open Champion Rory McIlroy has announced that he has officially parted company with Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler and ISM in favour of a move to the Dublin-based Horizon Sports Management.

McIlroy had been with ISM ever since turning pro four years ago. Since that day the young Ulsterman has shot to the forefront of world golf and is now one of the leading lights in the game, especially after his memorable win at this year’s US Open. Read more

Golf BallVirtually every player on tour these days is good enough to shoot the lights out on the majority of the golf courses they play but it is the ability to cope with the pressure of tournament play that determines how effectively they put their sublime skills to use. Needless to say that pressure grows the further into a tournament and the closer to the title the player in question gets. For avid golf fans there is nothing quite like watching two golfing heavyweights fighting it out down the stretch come Sunday in a big tournament. In many cases this situation produces a spectacular collapse which hands the tournament to another golfer or an amazing “clutch” shot to which wins the player in question the title. Recently we saw one of the finest clutch shots of recent years at the Tour Championship as Bill Haas splashed out of a water hazard to three feet to save par and win the tournament and of course the $10,000,000 FedEx Cup. The US Masters, Open Championship, US Open and the US PGA Championship are the most important tournaments in golf as far as both the players and the fans are concerned. They also carry great importance when considering a player’s place in golf’s history books. It comes as no surprise then that players covet them above all else and as such experience more nerves during the majors than at any other point in their careers. Such expectation and desire can have both positive and negative effects on the top player’s ability to play their best stuff. Great Champions including Nicklaus, Palmer, Player, Ballesteros and Woods seem able to summon the power to play spell binding golf when it matters most but unfortunately others wilt in such pressured situations.
