UK Golf Tours FAQs

What is a golf tour?

This is a term that can be up for debate but simply it is where a golf trip includes a hotel with one or more golf courses included within a short drive. Many golfers enjoy a golf tour due to it's ability to play a wide-variety of golf courses within a short distance of their city centre accommodation.

Golfers heading to the likes of Bournemouth can expect over 10 different golf courses to play within 20 minutes of the centre of town as an example. With a wide-variety of options available with different golf courses available to change as part of the trip, many golfers travel to the same destination each year, just changing one or two of the courses as part of it. Golf tours are very popular with golf club members who often travel as part of their Captain's away trip or similar.

What are the best UK golf tours for low-handicappers?

The UK is home to some of the best golf courses in the world. When taking a golf tour, the most popular for low-handicap / single-figure golfers are found in Southport with links delights on show at the likes of Formby, Hillside and Royal Birkdale.

Scotland has a host of testing links golf courses with The Highlands providing Nairn, Castle Stuart and Royal Dornoch as stand out tests when the wind blows.

South Wales with the likes of Royal Porthcawl, The Celtic Manor and Pyle and Kenfig provide a superb mix and test that'll stretch even the most ardent amateur or professional golfer.

Northern Ireland is home to some sensational golf where low-handicappers can enjoy themselves. Royal Portrush with its Open Championship history and Royal County Down enjoys a ranking within the Top 10 golf courses in the world so is sure to provide a memorable golfing weekend.

What are the best golf tours for societies?

Golfers travelling as a group are most likely to find a great golf tour at the likes of Bournemouth, Cardiff, Nottingham, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Belfast. With a wide-variety of both championship golf courses such as Ferndown in Bournemouth or Royal Liverpool in the North West, low-handicappers are going to find a great test which is of equal measure for a mix of handicaps playing at the likes of The Vale in Cardiff or Dalmahoy in Edinburgh.

All of these destinations offer a great bit of nightlife to enjoy after your round of golf so those seeking some entertainment after their day on the course. With ample options for bars, pubs and restaurants many will opt for accommodation within a short walk of the town / city centre for their tour.

Are there handicap restrictions for playing Top 100 Golf Courses?

As many of the golf courses included with golf tours fit within the Top 100 Golf Courses ranking, there are often restrictions on play. This can be a handicap limit, typically 18-24 for men and 24-28 for women. The reason for this restriction is for enjoyment of play for all. These courses are often very stern tests so being able to enjoy the course can be tricky for high-handicaps, such is the demand of some of the tee-shots or approaches into the green. If you have any questions regarding individual golf courses and their restrictions, please speak to your golf travel expert when enquiring who will be happy to help.
