The club was founded in 1923 by Lord Boyne, who commissioned the esteemed duo of Harry Colt and Major J.S.F. Morrison to create the course in the grounds of the estate. Surrounding the castle itself is an area of delightful mature parkland that sets the scene perfectly.
Brancepeth Castle’s fairways are routed between the stands of birch and oak, and the layout is a stern test for every visitor. From the championship markers, the course stretches to 6,400 yards, which may not seem overly long. However, the subtlety of the design demands great accuracy and no little creativity, which form part of the charm of the delightful Brancepeth Castle.
