Montgomerie Course

Monty has gone back to his Scottish roots with his Carton House creation and has put together an inland links of sorts, with very clear inspiration being taken from the great seaside courses of yesteryear. The course has been sculptured with plenty of earth being moved to create mind boggling undulations that certainly add to the overall challenge.

Add to that countless deep pot bunkers, fescue rough that sways gently in the wind and a design that is intended to use the prevailing wind to challenge the player from the tee and you have a fantastic test of golf. Stretching to well over 7,000 yards from the tips, the Montgomerie Course at Carton House is fully capable of asking questions of the game’s best players, some of which will be in town for the 2013 Irish Open.

O'Meara Course

Mark O’Meara’s design at Carton House is the original course on the resort. This course is vastly different to its younger sibling, something that will appear to visiting golfers because, as they say, “variety is the spice of life”. Thanks to Lady Emily Leinster, who is credited with adding a wide variety of non-native trees to the property in the middle of the 18th century, the O’Meara Course is a more parkland affair than the Montgomerie Course. Blue Cedars, Lebanese Cedars and Copper Beeches, as well as the native sycamores, firs and pines, skirt the fairways and demand accuracy from the tee.

Skirting gently undulating terrain along the banks of the River Rye, which comes into play frequently on the back nine, the O’Meara Course is a picturesque delight and the perfect foil for its more demanding sibling. Get the camera ready when approaching the 14th as this is the start of Carton House’s very own Amen Corner. Ending at the 16th, this stretch of the course is beautiful and treacherous in equal proportions.

Carton House has been recognised by the prestigious ‘Committed to Green Award'.

Venue reviews for Carton House Hotel & Golf Club

This venue has 6 reviews, with an average rating of 5 out of 5

Fab trip - really enjoyed Carton House and your recommendation was spot on. Hotel well appointed - had executive room with lots of space, we were well cared for at the golf club and found the facilitties and course excellent. All in all it exceeded our expectations and also represented great value for money. Many thanks and will definitely book our next trip with you again.

Just returned from our Carton House golf break and this is our review...

I have been organising our golf trips for about 5 years now and we are all agreed that this was by far and away or best one yet. The setting was absolutely amazing, the accommodation and the facilities on offer are excellent and the staff in both the hotel and golf complex were first class.

The golf courses on the face of it look quite easy but don't be fooled! In our round on the Montgomerie course I must have found at least 20 bunkers which were difficult to extricate yourself from! The golf courses offer a challenge to all handicaps. Our group had quite a range of handicaps and we all found both the Montgomeerie and the O’Meara course to be enjoyable. There are some fantastic looking holes particularly on some of the par 3s over water hazards...gulp!

During our stay the Ireland rugby team were there training for the upcoming internationals and speaking to some of the locals we found out that the complex is widely used by football teams such as Real Madrid which gives you an idea of the quality of the facilities. Never did bump into Ronaldo though!

Eat a hearty Irish breakfast before you play...there is an excellent selection to suit all tastes. Then prepare yourself for the challenge ahead, go to the free practice ground or putting greens, hire a buggy with towels thrown in for good measure. When you have completed your round go and have a shower and enjoy the clubhouse and its many treasures.

Excellent golf holiday; well planned by Your Golf Travel; highly impressed and would recommend wholeheartedly.

Carton House is my favourite golf resort in Ireland and I love it more and more every time I go back.

Teeing off on the Montgomerie course I was suitably impressed. The fairways were immaculate, the greens were super fast and unusually for a prkaldn course there were plenty of pot bunkers scattered around the course. This is a proper test of course management and straight hitting. Stray too far from the fairways and you will struggle!

The hotel is superb. The building is stunning and traditional from the outside and the interior is fresh and modern following what must have been an expensive renovation. The rooms are excellent and are kitted out with all the modern touches you may need.

We organised a babysitter with the concierge who was lovely and put out us both at ease before we headed down to the restaurant for something to eat.

My wife and I both really enjoyed our dinner and the breakfast the following morning was equally as good...it’s the business and the staff are really kind and efficient as well

It won’t be long until I return for another golf break at Carton House and I will definitely be booking with Your Golf Travel again. I’m looking forward to it already!

Many thanks for organising our recent golf holiday at Carton House. We all had a fantastic time and I really couldn’t highlight a fault in the trip…well there were a couple of rain showers but I can’t really blame Your Golf Travel for that!

Carton House was a fantastic venue for a weekend golf break and the package we bought was excellent value for money when consider what was on offer.

Both of the golf courses are top quality and actually present very differing challenges. Of course they are both on pristine condition and the practice facilities are top class. The staff in and around the golf club and clubhouse are amazing; so friendly and helpful!

The hotel is a classy establishment with a relaxing atmosphere and fantastic facilities and services that will ensure you are never short of something to do. The food in the restaurants is excellent and while the drinks can be pricey you should come to expect that from a top class golf resort.

The success of the golf break was totally down to the venue and Your Golf Travel. Your service was outstanding and we will be booking future golf breaks through YGT.

Carton House, this historic manor house offers a modern and comfortable interior and bedrooms. The staff were all courteous and helpful and the facilities are second to none. Despite a very wet spell prior to our arrival the two golf courses were fantastic. The Montgomerie Course is set up well for big hitters whereas the O’Meara course, the better of the two in my opinion, offers an excellent balance of risk and reward and some great signature holes featuring water. Most agreed that the O’Meara was by far the better course with a good variety of challenges, however I would highly recommend both to anyone and this really is the perfect place to take a golf break!

Many thanks to Your Golf Travel for your help, we all had a great time and enjoyed every round.

Peter

The two courses where in excellent condition for our golf break at Carton House Hotel & Golf Club, the Montgomery especially. The only thing that let the O'Meara down was the fact that the greens had just been sanded but it was still a pleasure to play the course. The 14th, 15th and 16th holes on the O'Meara are stunning and will remain in the memory for a long time.

We had a group of twelve golfers ranging in handicap from 5 to 22 and the various tee's provided a challenge for every player and the higher handicappers won all the sweeps, putting their extra shots to good use. We ate in the clubhouse on one occasion and found that the food and drink where about the price we expected, a pint was 5 Euros and the food ranged from 8 to 25 Euros which was what we expected to pay.

The hotel itself was stunning and excellent value for money, the breakfast was very good, the rooms were spotless and had everything we needed for the trip, the staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the resort and its history and were happy to advise us on the best places to visit in Maynooth town centre for food and drinks. The location was very easy to find and was a painless 2hr drive from just outside Belfast, once we got to Maynooth the course was very well signposted and easy to find.

The overall verdict from all twelve golfers that stayed and played on the course was 10/10 and we are already talking about booking again for the same time next year. The service provided by YGT was first class and made booking the trip easy and hassle free and we will definitely use the company again.

We had our golf break at Carton House Golf Course and Spa. We played both courses, which were in excellent condition. The O’Meara has some great topographical features on the back nine, including a waterfall -a “do you go for it or play safe” situation. The Montgomery course is excellent. Sandwiches and hot/cold drinks were provided at the 10th. I consider this to be a challenging course. I would recommend both highly to anyone.

19th Hole: The converted stables provide the golf club area facilities with pro shop and bars. Bacon butties and coffee were available for carry out and at mid day on the course.

Hotel: Staff were most helpful at all times. The room was spacious, fresh, clean and comfortable. Facilities were excellent, although there was no Sky in the room. The Earl of Kildare house with the original features from the kitchen to the grand function room with its organs and paintings conserved is worth looking around. Leaflets were provided at reception. The Spa facilities are excellent. Clean, fresh, spacious and well laid out. I did not have time to try a Spa treatment although there were plenty to choose from available. We thought the Linden Restaurant is first class in service, presentation and quality of food. The fish was beautifully prepared.

Overall I would rate Carton House Hotel and Golf Club 10/10. I think the whole package was excellent value for money and would highly recommend the Carton House Hotel and Golf Club.

Your Golf Travel I would rate 10/10 for them as well. I had just sent off the email query not expecting a reply for a day or so. However, they phoned later that same day. Everything was sorted promptly, including accommodating our times on each of the courses. We have previously booked Druids Glen and Penina in Portugal through Your Golf Travel. I have already recommended others to check their web site golf packages.
