0800 043 6644Joining the list of courses to have hosted The Ryder Cup was a new dawn for Welsh golf and the addition of The Twenty Ten Course launched Celtic Manor into the world’s golfing elite. That the course held up so strongly to the almighty deluge during Ryder Cup week is testament to the quality of its design and construction. Visit now, and you will be welcome to manicured fairways and lightning fast greens that mark The Twenty Ten as a genuine tournament standard experience.
And the experience is as much part of The Twenty Ten as the course itself; meet and greet service, shoe cleaning and access to the Ryder Cup locker rooms will ensure you have a day to remember. Just a few moments from The Twenty Ten Clubhouse is a purpose driving range that allows you to be loose and limber come the first tee, just a part of one of the most luxurious golf resort experiences in the country.
2020 saw the European Tour return to Celtic Manor and the Twenty Ten course for the Celtic Classic. Sam Horsfield claimed the title of the inaugural event with a final bogey free round of 67, two clear of Thomas Detry. The win was Horsfield's second in the UK Swing series of events having won the Hero Open at the Forest of Arden a few weeks earlier.
The Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor is ranked as one of the best courses in Wales
Signature hole - No. 14: Par 4, 413 yards, SI 2
This tricky par 4 sums up the Twenty Ten's lake-lined challenge, with two separate bodies of water to negotiate. Players have to choose between either a bold carry with the tee shot or else the approach. Most opt for an iron off the tee to avoid a watery fate to the left; while those brave enough to fly the lake can leave themselves a short, straightforward pitch.

Celtic Manor’s connection with Colin Montgomerie began long before he led his European starlets to Ryder Cup victory in 2010; in fact, he puts his name to a championship layout that’s up there with the best UK resort golf courses. Like the Roman Road, there are a few hills to negotiate but the rewards include splendid views around the resort.
The Montgomerie Course has a championship heritage with many holes being part of The Wentwood Hills Golf Course which hosted The European Tour's Wales Open between 2000 and 2004 with the remaining holes remodelled and redesigned from the Coldra Woods Golf Course. The golf course as it stands today is an excellent test with stunning undulations and views and has hosted The EuroPro Tour in 2015 as a standalone Championship venue which was won by Gary King with a 3-round -9 total.
Signature hole - No. 3: Par 5, 609 yards, SI 5
This spectacular par 5 featured in our list of "Five holes you must play" and is arguably the best on the entire resort. Despite measuring a hefty 609 yards from the tips, the second half of the tree-lined hole plunges steeply downhill, making the green an inviting target to reach in two shots. Magnificent vistas over the Usk Valley and Ryder Cup Twenty Ten course make the hole as scenically dramatic as it is challenging.

"An excellent resort golf course, don't be fooled by its shorter yardage, the Roman Road is a great test for all golfers"
There are not many Robert Trent Jones Senior designed courses in the UK, but The Celtic Manor Golf Resort has one and it is a treat. Approaching 20 years of play, the Roman Road Course is a mature and challenging championship golf course, building a rich heritage marked with highlights including the 2005 and 2006 Welsh Opens on The European Tour, won by Spain's Miguel Angel Jimenez and Sweden's Rober Karlsson. Expect an undulating test and wonderful views of the Newport and Usk valleys around what is arguably the most society and corporate golf friendly of the Celtic Manor trio.
With the 1st tee and 18th green just moments from the spacious clubhouse, The Roman Road has a real golf club feel to it and provides an excellent place to enjoy some food and drink before or after your round of golf. The terrace is a great place to talk about the great and good of your round with views back towards the Resort Hotel and the mature Welsh countryside.
Signature Hole - No. 10: Par 4, 407 yards, SI 8
A brilliant par 4 that demands two carefully selected and well-executed shots. From an elevated tee players must choose their club wisely, with longer hitters who take driver in danger of running short of fairway. The second shot is played over a gaping chasm to a green some 40 feet below the level of the fairway.

Excellent hotel that certain lives up to its 5 star rating. Extremely comfortable and spacious rooms, friendly and helpful staff, good facilities and nice food. Would definitely stay again.
Very nice, as expected
Such a beautiful hotel. Really enjoyed the pool and spa area. Came away extremely relaxed! Will definitely be back!
Hotel looks tired and quality of food and service was very average.
Great hotel . We had a fabulous time . Resort is huge . Great shuttle Buses that take you around resort. Only one disappointing experience was in The Grill restaurant . The steak was expensive for what it was . Quality of food not great! The golf was amazing , lovely staff and great facilities.
Superb. We travelled as a group of nine for a stay and play. Rooms were great, restaurants incredible. No issues with any aspect. From check in to check out, the whole stay was excellent. Staff are extremely helpful, friendly and helpful right across the resort,in the restaurants, at the golf courses etc. Shuttle bus is great way to get around aswell.
Great place to stay
The hotel is a real experience with very welcoming staff and fabulous facilities. The Steak at Six and Rafters restaurants are a must if you are staying in the resort hotel. We will certainly be returning
Clean Friendly Hotel. We stayed in the main hotel in a signature room on level 6, private balcony and large size bathroom. Restaurant and bar on site. Other options are available but involve either a long walk or a shuttle bus service is offered on site to other areas of the resort. Ample parking both undercover and open air both at a cost. (Undercover parking charged at £20 overnight think open air parking was £8.50 but requires a short walk back to the main hotel).
Overall the hotel was impressive particularly the service and food/drink options. Unfortunately the bedroom was poor with inadequate air conditioning and in our case a problem with the toilet overflow which ran constantly.
Comfortable room. Smart TV not very smart at all! Hot water not hot enough for a bath but OK for shower. Excellent polite staff.
Excellent hotel, comfortable room. Staff very helpful. Food was very good.
Resort by name and resort in feel, good room sizes, decent bathroom including shower pressure (pet hate) and a quiet nights sleep on the 10th floor. Breakfast had great choice and staff are exceptionally friendly and helpful across the resort. It has everything you need. One note I'd add, is once you've paid YourGolf Travel have nothing to do with you, zero service once you've handed over your money. I had to call Celtic Manor to check a few things prior to arriving with unanswered emails to YourGolf Travel not helping.
Excellent
The staff were unhelpful and rude particularly reception and bar staff It was almost as if a group of 12 golfers were an inconvenience to them eg for dinner they could not cater for a group of 12 but they could do 2x 6 Even although we had booked breakfast no member of staff told us that you still had to book a table fortunately another guest told us Very poor service from bar staff it even got to the point where we had to ask to speak to the duty manager There is certainly 12 guys who wouldn’t go back and certainly wouldn’t recommend it to their friends
The hotel decor is a bit tired and dated, but the service was very good and our two meals at Steak on Six and Rafters were wonderful.
Great hotel, friendly staff, comfort of rooms was outstanding.
Great hotel 100% recommend
What we paid for the two nights and three days playing the three golf courses at celtic manor was a fair price from YourGolfTravel on reflection - But as for the experience the prices at the resort was vastly over priced and the food quality served in the restaurant's was not a reflection of the prices you paid - The bedroom we had was very presentable & clean - But the aircon was next to useless during our stay which made sleep near impossible as the room stayed uncomfortable hot - In all I think the Celtic Manor are relying on the Name linked to the Ryder Cup - but I personally would not recommend or revisit
The only reason I haven't given it a 5 star review is down to the catering. I tried to book a table for 12and was told I had to complete a form online and would hear back in 2/3 days (ridiculous in itself) after three days I called again and was again told I would have to complete another form and it could be another 2/3 days, I am still waiting for a response having now returned!! As a result we had to book outside of the resort. The catering at the half way houses were also atrocious on all three days there was no hot food, just crisps, which for a resort of this standing is very poor.
Lovely hotel, made to feel very special.
Superb place to go and staff especially were extremely helpful and friendly.
The only fault I would have is that we had to book on line for all restaurant bookings, even breakfast and then over heard some guests being told they could go to breakfast any time between 7 and 9. One night we tried to book and on line nothing available, but staff managed to get us booked in, and it was almost empty, so not sure what that was all about??
The hotel and facilities are great but I was disappointed with the lack of contact and information prior to our visit. Fortunately we were there early but were not made aware that we effectively had to be there an hour early for our bags to be taken to the 2010 course and that we would have to be driven down to the first tee. I had no contact from Your Golf Travel once payment had been made and feel that some notes on the faculties, which are vast and not easy to navigate, would have been very helpful
Great service food and staff
Lovely place. Little error that in my room they only had the used cups from the previous customer. Would not hold that against them. Would stay there again. Food was great.
Good hotel, very disappointed that we had to pay a dinner charge of £8 per person per night which wasn't made clear to us before booking considering we had paid out over £7,000 for this trip. I will be taking this further with the hotel. It would of been nice if YourGolfTravel highlighted this cost on our booking details an not add this in at the end in the small print.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful
The hotel itself was grand and well equipped. The staff tbh were not that friendly and or welcoming. Location just of the M4 is ideal for travelling from distance. Bars and Forum spa are brilliant. The room was comfortable, although one of my party described the room as 'hotter than the steam room'.
Could not get booked into ANY of the restaurants on site.
I booked a 1 night 2 round trip for my son as a Christmas present, seeing as this is a golf resort one would think they would provide heated golf bag storage and boot cleaning facilities,Neither are!I was told(by a member of staff) that players just leave them in the car! £20 for secure parking! 22 minutes to be served a beer (virtually empty bar) The cooked breakfast that is included is worse than a microwave meal. Will not be using the accommodation on site again
Hotel was poor, air extractor in bathroom was dirty and had mould growing around it, no hot water when first arrived in the room as it was on the tenth floor and not been occupied recently. Would not go back.
The hotel is not the prettiest from the outside but ideally situated and quality. London prices for drinks and food but the exceptional facilities made that fair. You can’t go far wrong staying here if you want a golf fest
Everything about the hotel and staff was spot on thought that being charged to park was a cost to far considering the price of food and drinks
Our room was on the tenth floor, the facilities were very basic. The restaurants were very expensive, Steak on Six has a menu set at £68.00, however if you only have a steak you will still be charged the fixed price of £68.00. Cocktails are £15.00 each.
Excellent
Celtic manor hotel superb, staff in reception very helpful and polite. Decor very nice too. Had drinks in the bar, had 4 rounds of drinks, waitress had language issues, another waitress kept coming over to check order !! Played golf on Montgomery & Roman rd and both were great courses. Greens superb on both courses. Montgomery was a challenging walk, very hilly but great contours for the course. Roman road took over 5 hours, very slow with group 3 ahead of our tee time, needed Marshall to move them on, but did not happen. Greens on both courses were excellent. Breakfast was very tasty, all quality food and a great variety. Booked through YGT, no issues, had upgraded rooms that were fab, will definitely be back again
The hotel was superb very clean and facilities perfect. Hotel Staff friendly. Had first night dinner in the Grill again perfect- food excellent and service spot on. Easy to travel to the grill just asked in reception and a shuttle bus arrived within a couple of minutes. We parked in the academy car park (free) for Both nights. Left clubs in car overnight and used shuttle bus to and from The hotel. Moved car to 2010 car park for The final day. Only let down was the meal in the Olive Tree. Very poor for a 5* hotel. Food uncovered left out in the heat main meals dry and unappetising. Service very very slow not enough staff. Would not advise eating there. Apart from that 5* on everything else.
Hotel and facilities were great Food was a bit pricey Great location for the golf Charged for the trip again on returning home by hotel , rectified and refunded after a few calls the following week , very helpful team
Need bottles of water in the rooms
After playing the 2010 course on Wednesday, we decided as it was our first night at Celtic Manor, we all decided to eat in a restaurant on site, but after booking for 13 people, the restaurant decided that they could only house 5 people from our group, so after some delegation with the group, we decided not to eat on site and decided to go to the Beefeater down the road, but with the time of night when we were told (it was around 21:45) that all 13 could not be accommodated for, we scrambled to get some people to the other place for food, but this was too late and half of our group went without dinner which put most of us in a bit of a bad place. After we all met up with some of us still without food, we decided to see the night in at the bar, but the bartenders saw us as a large group and decided to put all our drinks on 1 tab when we specifically told them that we are all going to pay separate, so when it came to the end of the night, the bill was just around £200 for only a handful of drinks, as it then came to light that they had double charged us for half of our drinks as we asked them to split the final bill between some of the group. We were reluctant to pay this as we spoke to one of the managers that was behind the bar that night, but nothing was done and they decided to walk away without the issue at hand being resolved so some of us are still out of pocket.
Hotel was fine no issues at all.
Excellent hotel, an enjoyable stay by all!! We need more Celtic manors in the world!!
Excellent hotel . A little expensive particularly on drinks £6.75 pint and food at top end prices . Particularly dissatisfied with parking at £20 night even though was told it was included
Great experience with excellent set up my only downer would be we were VERY surprised in a “Gold focused’ hotel we couldn’t watch The US Open golf anywhere in the hotel despite asking at various times
Absolutely stunning hotel with the most helpful staff and great bars and restaurants we will be going back
Absolutely brilliant from start to finish.
For a high end resort ordering drinks from your table was poor. However, overall a great stay.
Excellent all round - prices for drinks at the resort are quite high, but in keeping with the standard of accommodation
As good as it gets. This place is amazing. Courses, hotel and staff are brilliant. Can’t speak highly enough
Tried to book breakfast for following day at around 7pm after checking in, only time available was 7am which wasn't really any good to us after going out on the night, I did ask at reception if we could go in at another time but was told we could only eat at the times available, so unfortunately had to go out to find food that being the McDonald's round the corner. We did have breakfast on the following day, choice was good but everything from the hot plate was cold so not very enjoyable. Staff were friendly and helpful but the food was a massive letdown.
Very dissapointed with room service, do not use the app as although you may get an email confirmation for food and drink times, you don't get the order. 3 hr wait following a phone call to reception, they then advised the app was down. This should have been communicated far better.
Great hotel, rooms spacious and very high quality. Food choice and restaurant choice very good.
Absolutely fantastic place, although £20 car parking as an extra seemed a bit strange
Despite the hotel and facilities being 5 star, the trip for the group didn’t start well as we had no hotel room booking. We were obviously not impressed with this.
I will give 5 stars to the concierge/porter staff, who were excellent. Reception pretty good, too. Service in Merlin's Bar dreadfully slow. The housekeeping staff who left top-up biscuits & open pot of fresh milk in the corridor outside our room - not so much. The top-ups disappeared and who knows what was done to the open milk.
Very good set up not experience staff to deal with small problems
Very well organised trip.
Overall the stay was great but I think due to miss communication between yourselves and celtic manor the dinner deal wasn't registered with celtic manor, which caused hassle on checkout.
The beds were so uncomfortable I ended up sleeping on the floor. Far too soft. The spa was closed in the hotel.
Have stayed here before & it was very good but at the moment Wales has different rules to England so look them up. So not all facilities were open & they are only servicing rooms every 3 days which they did not tell us. Staff were rather surly & paying for things on their app was haphazard so disappointed
The hotel has charged my card for the full amount of the trip also, instead of charging yourself your golf travel. This has now caused me a huge inconvenience with my bank overdraft and missed Mortage payment with the amount still showing pending. This is a massive mistake
The stay was very enjoyable. We were on a bed and breakfast basis and the rooms were spot on and the breakfast buffets terrific. There was a great variety of food and it was all well prepared. We ate twice in the hotel restaurants; the Grill at the Clubhouse had a warm ambience and the food was excellent; we were not so taken with the Olive Tree and it was the wrong choice for us as a group of 4 golfers is not looking to be surrounded by large numbers of young children. The reception and concierge staff were very helpful and responded swiftly to our requests for fresh towels (COVID having prevented room refresh), shuttles, taxis etc. The bars were cheery and fresh and prices reasonable for a 5 star establishment. We are really pleased that we stayed at the Resort Hotel.
Excellent facilities and service No complaints at all
Room spotlessly clean but let down by tired decor. Moldy window board due to condensation, curtains missing hangers so let light in and walls marked by suitcases. Minor things but not what you'd expect from 5* resort. Could do with a bit of an update!
I love Celtic manor hotel , so many restaurants and bars. We had lovely food and a great stay . Breakfast was amazing, so much choice.
They both enjoyed it so much! They came back with nothing but positive reviews and the best golf trip they have ever had!
Maybe a post lockdown hangover but overall the staff were in different, the bars lacked spirit and liveliness and the food was not of 5 Star quality. I've experienced better.
Staff at the Merlin bar I found to be rude. Very overpriced for what it is and the hotel looked very out of date and tired
Excellent hotel, very helpful staff and great restaurants.
Very nice hotel, clean, friendly staff. My only criticism is you get charged £18 to park your car overnight, even though are staying there.
Had a great time Room was great nice view from the balcony
Arrived at hotel at 11am and the room was ready. Lovely double room with views over golf course. Staff great. Only down side was the constant drone from the nearby M4
Good stay - nice room and views - very comfortable.
Didn't like all the apps to get served, watch out for service charge on everything 😪😪😪
A very comfortable hotel with excellent staff. Getting a drink in the clubhouse after a very tiring five hour round in the evening was atrial due to the ordering system. Could this not be optional for those who are techno challenged now that Covid is passing. The Academy cafe was excellent and did allow the card swipe machine so why not the clubhouse?
Very friendly staff and amazing food. I cannot fault the staff or the hotel. However, Unfortunately we had a lot of children on our floor level (5) therefore at times there was lots of running along the corridor and slamming of doors. I had children knocking on my front door and on the internal adjoining door. Because of this I have deducted a star for room comfort.
Overall we had a very nice time, which was mainly due to the quality of the golf courses. they were excellent. We upgraded when we arrived to a suite. The room was lovely. However this is not a 5 star hotel for the following reasons The food was terrible and very over priced We had to pay £18 or £ 7 a night for the parking. They even charged us for the day we left even though we left at 10am. shocking!! We couldn't booked swimming or any of the spa facilities as they were fully booked all week We ate in the best restaurant called Steak six. They wouldn't get my husband a draught beer from the bar down stairs, but a cocktail wasn't a problem for another guest. Not great service
Very nice hotel but had a couple of concerns, the rooms were not serviced at all for a three night stay and the only option for the restaurant (Steak on 6) was and expensive 3 course. COVID is being used as an excuse for reducing the service level.
The hotel was great and exceeded our expectations. The staff were all professional and friendly. The room was spacious and met all of our needs. Would definitely go again.
The hotel was brilliant! Really glad we went for the main hotel.
Very clean and a relaxed atmosphere. Staff always very polite. Prices are what you expect when staying in the resort.
very nice very clean and comfortable breakfast exellent
Coming in out of the rain last thing I want for dinner is a cold buffet sadly all we got Very disappointed First impressions matter so can’t see me returning
Every thing about the hotel was great
Very nice indeed, staff were so friendly and helpful if called upon, just a shame they charge for parking at the hotel.
I T system down. Had 45 minutes wait before we had access to the room which had been recently refurbished although surprisingly had no drawers and inadequate room for clothing other than hanging room. We therefore used our case! Should not have to do that. Walls were thin and obvious noise levels intruded, of an amorous nature, into the night! We prepaid for our evening meals through you only to be told they had not received the money. I provided documentation as proof but 3 times we were challenged and even then the final bill included one meal for two at £77. Crazy. Eventually they got it right.
Excellent hotel, friendly staff
Fantastic double twin suite. Very comfortable, large bathrooms. Facilities fantastic in the hotel, great choice in the breakfast menu, and plenty of restaurants to choose from, or Merlin's bar for a quiet beer and a snack. Staff very polite, and extremely helpful. This is my 6th time back at this resort, and standards are still very high.
The experience that my son and I had was exceptional.
Quite old fashioned decor. Hotel huge so very busy.
Great golfing weekend away, amazing value for money. Entertainment in the bar area was also fantastic, will be back 😄
We had a fabulous time at Celtic Manor, the facilities are fantastic. Spa facilities were second to none and so relaxing including all the treatments i had while we were there. Would certainly return in the future.
Very expensive and we ate in the Rib Smokehouse and Grill restaurant and this was very pricey for 4 of us. Service was very slow at the merlin bar as well and people kept jumping in to be served! We went as couples and ended up having to have single beds again after we asked for a double bed and nothing was done. All in all a below average stay for a supposed luxury resort.
Very large complex- evening buffet in Olive Tree average - breakfast better but wouldn't want to eat there when busy- cafe like experience.
We had a lovely golf break very helpful staff especially a lovely lady called Lin who was serving us with tea and coffee at breakfast, the hotel room was comfortable with wide reaching views over the golf course. The courses were in great condition, although the price of the golf carts were very expensive at £38 a day.
<p>You get a very small taste of what it must be like being a tour pro when you play The Twenty Ten course. Great hosts at the Celtic Manor. Couldn't find fault anywhere.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Always club up as the wind is deceiving."</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>I would go back without hesitation, good hotel even if you are not golfing. You are very well looked after, buggies loaded up and waiting for you. The course is amazing with fabulous views and spectacular holes, especially the ones over the gorges (take plenty of balls). The only downside is that if you go in winter not all the restaurants are open.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take care on the steep slopes."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>9th hole was my favourite.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 28</p>
<p>Lovely hotel, but we were let down by the weather, so slightly disappointed.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 28</p>
<p>Amazing stay which was made by the staff. They could not do enough for you.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Hotel was very good, with the best breakfast you could wish for. Courses were wet but still played well. The whole 2010 experience is very special and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves their golf.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Check the distance, pick your club, then take one longer."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>Could not stay on site and had to go to the hotel outside the complex, double booked. The courses were flooded, should have been closed. Unfortunately could not finish the golf trip.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep it on the fairway."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 6</p>
<p>It was great playing the 2010 (Ryder Cup) course. Great course; great food (and cocktails) on the night we stayed; great advice from the staff ("don't bother with a buggy on the 2010 course as only the last few holes involve climbs") - in other words just great!</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Use a distance measuring device, some of the shots are further than they look."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Played 2 courses. There is a great curry restaurant down the road from the hotel. Trying to get a foursome for next year.<br></p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep your head still and don't try to hit the ball too hard."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Throughout the whole course I was left with a long second shot and there was always an obstacle of either a bunker or water hazard to overcome. However, a great place nonetheless.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>All very enjoyable and I will be going back again and again.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Enjoy your golf."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Enjoy it.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>Great courses, great day.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>Good courses spoiled by slow play and not allowing enough space for each game, hotel comfortable and good food.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 19</p>
<p>Staff very helpful both in golf club and resort hotel. Appreciated adverse weather vouchers to make a return visit having been snowed off.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 24</p>
<p>All holes have their own characteristics, so no real complaints about the course.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Always hit the the center of the greens and take the two putts."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Played the Montgomerie and the 2010 Course, the latter something special. Hotel was good, breakfast and dinner very nice. Staff at hotel and at Golf venues were excellent.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Much prefer the Roman Road course. 2010 is somewhat too difficult for mid to high handicapper, just a long slog. Also, much prefer the Manor Hotel, which is much more homely and comfortable. Rafters Restaurant is a must, particularly for dinner.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't get too ambitious off the tee."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>The hotel and food were great. The registration and lack of people to handle the baggage was diabolical. Luggage was left in the foyer unattended while reception staff tried to help.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 26</p>
<p>Hotel is great. All the courses are good, even the less used Roman Road.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Try to keep the ball in play."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Had a great two day break. Loved the hotel- in particular, the lovely spa and pool and the delicious breakfast in the morning. Played the Montgomerie and Roman Road on two glorious February days. I particularly liked the Montgomerie, it had beautiful views, was well kept and the par 5 hole 3 was a delight.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Drive straight."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Tired accommodation. Queues to get out over an hour long as very slow play. Go to the Belfry instead.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 30</p>
<p>Absolutely chucked it down and we had force 8 gale! Played 6 holes on 2010 and were then able to take a rain check and get an adverse weather voucher so we could go back. Went back a year later and got rained off again. Course was in pretty good condition given the amount of rain. "Rivers" through the greens though on Monty course. Another voucher issued, although they didn't cover the full cost and you still have the cost of a buggy that isn't refunded. Good to receive them though. Hotel good.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Course was lovely, 2010 course was outstanding.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Make sure you get it on the hole."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>My favourite hole would be the 3rd, the views are outstanding. Hotel and food, as you can imagine were stunning.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Played all three courses, support from all the staff was very good, and it was very good value.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>All of the courses were very enjoyable.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep on the fairway."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 7</p>
<p>Love the whole 2010 experience.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 6</p>
<p>The 3rd hole on the Monty is good. Get a buggy as it is very hilly. Lovely hotel. Tough to beat for value.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Get a buggy."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>Everything was good.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>The 2010 experience is a must, It's like playing a different resort. The Manor House is fine for an overnight stay but the 5 star hotel is the one.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Aim for the bunkers as unless you hit long you won't reach them, but you will be pointed in the right direction."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Excellent hotel and courses in excellent condition providing a real test.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep the ball in the fairway."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 19</p>
<p>Hotel was fantastic (as per other members in the party). The hosts were brilliant- looked after our needs and also provided separate room for the presentations etc. Sadly I had to leave early as my father was taken ill.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 24</p>
<p>Was woken at 6am by loud banging. My room was next to maintenance. Food staff were awful at breakfast and at the spike bar. Did complain to reception on leaving, they didn't want to be there. A shame because the golf staff and courses were excellent.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Bring a yardage measurer and camera for the views."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Golf, rooms, food all excellent. Only downside was that buggies have to stay on the paths. Played Roman Road and four holes of the Montgomerie and then torrential rain got to us.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 33</p>
<p>Didn't really have any favourite holes. I know it was early in the year (mid march), but the course was quite waterlogged. Even though the month before was quite dry, I don't feel a urge to re-visit. The hotel was fine, all staff were friendly and very helpful. My only tip is "If you think a 6 iron is needed, use a 5".</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Use a higher iron, distance is deceptive"</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 34</p>
<p>Fantastic hotel. I played the 2010 and the Montgomerie courses, no holes were the same and they were all excellent.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play to your yardage and go for the middle of the green, not at the pin."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>Let every one enjoy there own experience.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>The Ryder Cup course at the time played is overpriced and over-rated, living very much on its history. I'd never go there again at this time of year, if ever. There is just too much foot traffic when it's damp, I can't remember bumpier greens at any other championship course.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Expect to miss a load of putts, anything you hole is a bonus."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>Course and hotel like it says- 5 star. Very friendly staff.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Fantastic hotel, spa and golf course. What more can you need.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Fabulous courses, superb hotel, only spoilt by the torrential rain which meant both rounds were not finished.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take one club extra."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Hotel is brilliant. No standout holes on courses as they are all are simply amazing.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play safe."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Superb hotel and facilities, everything catered for. Get a buggy if you play the monty.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>Everything was brilliant.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Know what you hit yardage wise."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Stay in the buggy- huge walk."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>Great hotel, fantastic food, Courses a bit bogey would like to play in the summer</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>The twenty ten course for me. Every hole is a challenge, you have to be as straight as possible and try to keep it on the fairway. Hotel was excellent and we were we'll looked after. The food was very nice. 24 of us went and no one complained and we have some moaners in our group.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Hit more club than you think."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>Grand entrance with an excellent meet and greet team.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Enjoyed playing the 2010 but its a long course and it makes you think where to aim and lay up to ensure you hit the greens. The rough can be punishing when it's wet so don't miss the fairways. Everything from the practice range, staff and accommodation was perfect. We also sampled the evening buffet meal option which was exceptional in terms of value, quality and quantity. This venue should be on everyone's to do list.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Greens are true and fair."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Great short break playing golf. Would recommend it to anyone's who likes a challenge. Hotel lovely. Food very expensive, but nice.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>I played the 2010 and the rough was like a hay field, not fun.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Buy a course guide."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>2010 is a fantastic golf course. We were a group of mainly single figure handicaps and were allowed to go off back tees. Awesome! Accommodation was great and the welcome and service in the smaller Manor House was far better than the hotel we stayed in on a previous trip. Each time we have travelled a mile down the road to eat at The Bell at Caerleon- excellent little pub restaurant. Call in advance to book and the hospitality is ace.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Walk to the practice ground at 2010 and soak up the atmosphere as you walk down to the 1st tee."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 1</p>
<p>Playing the 17th par 3 on the 2010 course was a great experience as was remembering G Mac closing out the winning score of the 2010 Ryder Cup. Still feel the excitement of it today and every time we return to the Celtic Manor. Must try the fish and chips in the bar area after a round.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"On 18th on the 2010 ensure you aim left of the green and get it there."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>I had a great break with 3 friends. Golf, hotel and food was excellent.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep it on the fairway."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>Courses wonderful but extremely wet and we were surprised they were open. Greens were fantastic and very fast. Fantastic reception at the 2010 clubhouse. Celtic Manor hotel was very good but restaurants were very quiet which spoiled the atmosphere.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take more club for each shot."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Hotel was spot on. The Montgomerie Course had some great views, particularly the par 4 hole that plays directly down hill.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Service was on point.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Golf courses pretty good, hotel average. </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Grip it and rip it."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Hotel was fabulous.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Read the greens, choose a 3 wood or driver"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Montgomerie course was unplayable and marshals admitted this. Despite only being a 3 ball we were behind a junior 4 ball so the round took over 5 hours and wasn't marshaled at all. We werent allowed to upgrade to an empty 2010 course either. Roman road was a very basic course but still a challenge. However, the hotel and the food were fantastic as was the sports bar and happy hour. Buggies ripped leather and tired looking, and was surprised it was still classed as 5 star.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play the 2010."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>The hotel could have told us that they do trips to the course, etc instead of having to drive and walk.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take your time."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Imagine the crowds are there during every shot. It's fantastic. Birdie the eighteenth to win like McDowell. Relax in one of the most stunning hotels in Wales. Great food great beer great prices.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Check out Gareth Edwards playing 2010 on YouTube."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 19</p>
<p>Enjoyed both courses we played. You really do need a buggy. Hotel very good, but food on the expensive side.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Just enjoy yourself."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Perfect in every way. Great facilities, venue and 3 beautiful courses. Notably a place to entertain your family while you play golf. Caters for everyone.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Bring your waterproofs!"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>A must for all golfers, shame its in wales or I would play again, maybe one day.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Try not to kill the photographer on the first!"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 19</p>
<p>The whole resort is set up to make the average golfer feel special. The Montgomerie course was my favourite, even over the 2010, but all 3 courses are memorable. The hotel and leisure facilities are superb and the food just topped it off. If you are a club golfer looking for the ultimate golfing experience, travel to Celtic Manor, you won't be disappointed.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Think your way around."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>The food at the hotel was excellent, as was the service.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take extra care on reading putts. The greens are true, so if you miss it's a miss read."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 22</p>
<p>Golf was great but several issues with the 5* hotel.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice putting before going on course."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 25</p>
<p>Resort hotel excellent. Would prefer to play 2010 course next time however. The Roman Road course did not flow, but enjoyed the Montgomerie!</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play percentage shots"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 29 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>It was an absolutely great place to play golf. Staff are great and the courses are great too. Lovely food and an all round great atmosphere.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Just get the ball round."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 39 or more points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 24</p>
<p>2010 course too tough for 18 handicap and over, Montgomerie ok. Roman Road was also tough but all the courses were enjoyable.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play within your limitations."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 29 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>Superb facilities with 2 brilliant courses. Get a buggy for the Montgomery course as it is extremely hilly. You are made to feel special by all the hotel and golf staff. Extremely good value for what you get, already thinking about returning. Food was superb too.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play to your ability, don't bite off more then you can chew as these courses can spit you out."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Great courses, great holes.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice your driving, you need to be straight on most holes."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 28</p>
<p>I've been here a few times with large groups, couples and corporates, each time I visit The Celtic Manor I'm always impressed by the service and quality of product. The Roman Road and Montgomerie are decent courses in their own right and well worth a round, especially if you have a mix of handicaps in your group. Off the back tees they are a real challenge and you have to play well to get 36 points. The Twenty Ten experience is as they bill it, an experience. You are made to feel very special as you make your way into the grand clubhouse and get yourself ready to take on the course. The lockers have the Ryder Cup players from 2010 on them so you can have the likes of Rory, Tiger etc as past users of it. The course itself is a real championship layout with a mix of length and strategy needed to get your way round it. Off the tee it is quite demanding with long tee shots needed to make headway on holes like 2, 4 and 8. The closing stretch of 15, 16, 17 and 18 are as fun a 4 holes as you'll get to finish your round. Have a go at 15 to drive it in 1, do a McDowell on 16 and hole a putt for birdie, duff a chip like Mahan on 17 and err hit in the water on 18 like me. Hotel is nice, bars are good (Merlins or the Cellar Bar at the Manor House) and there are plenty of different restaurants to suit whatever your group wants. All in all, Celtic Manor is hard to beat in terms of a UK golf break.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep it in play on all the courses, on the fairway is a lot better than being in the rough!"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 1</p>
<p>Favourite hole was the 18th on the 2010 course. Three top quality courses which were a pleasure to play. I would definitely recommend to individuals or groups.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Use driver on 10 as is easier shot."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 39 or more points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>The grandness of the hotel and surroundings make this a remarkable experience. Go on, treat yourself. You won't regret it. </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Use your shots wisely and go for position on greens. Get the wrong side and you're in trouble."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>Third hole on the Montgomery is brilliant. Celtic Manor is a great venue not only or the golf but also the ambiance of the place- the rooms are clean and tidy, the spa and sauna are well looked after, the food in the restaurant is at a high standard and I just love the breakfast. I would recommend this venue to my friends and family.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Very tight courses and difficult enjoy and drive it straight."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 29 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 24</p>
<p>Everything was superb, especially the way all the staff look after you. A real experience. Have been back twice since.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>We enjoyed the hotel and its facilities but playing all three courses on three consecutive days in winter conditions was not a good idea for people of our age.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Hotel fantastic. I recommend hiring a buggy as the courses are long with big gaps to next tees.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play to your strengths."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>A well run resort with a fabulous range of three very different courses, combined with an excellent hotel, good food and very professional staff. What more could anyone want? Even the weather was kind to us.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Pay attention to distance and direction of second shots. There are some hidden changes of direction and slopes on the fairways as well as challenging bunkers on all three courses."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 39 or more points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Top place to play and stay. Fantastic courses.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Lay up on 18 it's further than you think."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>My top tip is to pay the extra and play the 2010 course. There are no disappointments on any of the 3 courses. The staff went that extra mile to make our stay fantastic. Get it on your bucket list.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take good notice of the indexes and don't bite off more than you can chew."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 29 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Favourite hole is ninth.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Montgomerie course gets heavy in the winter"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Preferred the Montgomerie course. It was great fun to play but I would have a buggy next time as there are some long walks between holes. Manor house was very nice but the food was not good and the drinks very expensive.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"If you are on the wrong side of the hole on the Montgomerie course 3 putts can be a good result."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Stay at the hotel.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Playing on the Ryder cup 2010 course was a superb experience. The course itself is a must for anyone wishing to play on top professional courses, with the added advantage of not being overly difficult if found in decent conditions. There are a few very interesting holes that require thoughtful play, with the 18th a particular highlight. Looking forward to going back and experiencing it again next year!</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Fairways are crucial, if you get in the thick stuff, don't get too greedy coming out."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>1st hole on 2010 was very nerve racking but brilliant at the same time, pictures by a professional photographer on the 1st tee while taking your shot was awesome. My advise for anyone who wants to play there is to get a course planner out of the pro shop, as this will save you shots. Hotel was second to none, fantastic 5*. Spa was also amazing, food was great, beer was pricey in the main bar but there is a sports bar on the complex which was a great little find that also does food.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Attack the greens as they stick when they hit."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 19</p>
<p>Played Montgomerie and Roman Road courses with this year being our 4th consecutive year and the quality of the courses was better than ever. Have played the 2010 course twice already and whilst more expensive it is worth trying at least once for a great experience on a very tough course. The 2 we played are still a real test of skill, especially the greens which were lightening quick and if you're in the rough it would usually mean a lost ball, even when quite close to the fairways. The views on the course are fantastic and at this time of year it was fairly quiet so plenty of time to enjoy the round and not feel rushed by following groups. </p><p>The resort hotel is excellent, although drinks and food expensive - but it is a 5 star hotel. If open, try the cellar bar where they have happy hour sometimes and a decent value menu - sports screens all around, a pool table and darts board. Unfortunately when we went the french rugby team had secured the venue and other parts of the hotel for their own private use. This was not advised to us at the time of booking and was a great disappointment. The hotel staff were clearly embarrassed and apologised profusely, and it was obvious they were fed up with having to apologise over and over again to every visitor to this bar and restaurant.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Very fast greens."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Montgomerie was my favourite course. Prepare for the length of the 2010. Hotel was very comfortable.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Just go out and enjoy it, round goes quick."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Really enjoyed our stay at Celtic Manor. Reminded me of a Vegas hotel it was so big! Excellent facilities and a great couple of days despite the terrible weather. It did play ball when playing the 2010 course though, glorious sunshine! Definitely would recommend a buggy for 2010, large distances between green and tee.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Get the buggy, and use the practice facilities at 2010 course."</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 28</p>
<p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Played both 2010 and Montgomerie courses. Great feeling just knowing the Ryder Cup was played on the 2010 course and you're walking in the footsteps of the professionals. Little touches made the day special, i.e. your name on the locker in the changing room on the 2010 course. Everything about the hotel was excellent, well maintained, big rooms, clean and tidy, etc.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Hire a buggy for the Montgomerie Course."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Take a buggy as it's a long course. The hotel was first class. We loved spending time there.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 35</p>
<p>The Montgomery was awesome and obviously the 2010 was also great. Roman Road also very good. The Lodge was fantastic.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Played the Roman Rd and the Montgomery which I enjoyed, with the exception of members bombarding us with golf balls whilst on the green. Nothing was done to resolve the problem. The service in the hotel was far short of the 5 star supposed rating- I wrote a detailed complaint about the hotel which included the golfing incident and the overcharging at final billing, none of which were resolved by Celtic Manor. I would recommend anyone to go and play the courses as they and the green keeping staff were excellent and many of the peripheral staff also. Do not however, be fooled by the Hotel 5 star rating as it fell exceedingly short of that rating. It would have been wonderful if Celtic Manor had offered some reparation for the substandard service experienced during my stay that unfortunately destroyed what would have been a very enjoyable golfing break had it not been for the aforementioned unfortunate issues.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Carefully plan your approaches to greens."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Hotel was fine but the staff were a bit moody in the downstairs bar.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Monty and 2010 both have some superb holes. Top tip- take plenty of balls. </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play within yourself and take plenty of club."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>My tip- if you play the Montgomerie, get a buggy unless you are really fit.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Check yardages as it plays longer than it looks."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 6</p>
<p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>This was a truly first class occasion, for all of our group. The welcome on the 2010 and the day was excellent but it was a true test and no-one came close to their handicap.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Hit straight not long."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>We had a party of 8 of us over 3 days and played the Montgomerie and Roman Road courses. Both were excellent, even in winter conditions. We had a real mix of handicaps but everyone found the courses to suit all levels. Really enjoyed both courses with some stunning views from the par 5 third hole on the Monty course. The hotel and clubhouse are superb and you really cant fault it for value for money. The stewards around the course also made you feel really welcome. Have been back on a number of occasions and it always feels special.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 22</p>
<p>Great course and hotel which we return to every year. The staff are always accommodating and the course's are always in great condition. I would recommend to anyone and we will be back next year. </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice prior."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 22</p>
<p>Take care on greens they are quick. Take your time and get a stroke saver for shapes and distances on holes. </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"There are a lot of holes where I found that a driver or even a 3 wood was too long."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 39 or more points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Wet, wet and wet. Puddles on greens. Should have been closed in all honesty.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take an umbrella."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Excellent courses and hotel. Staff brilliant.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Superb courses, lovely surroundings, excellent personnel.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't be shy to take 1 more club."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Loved the par 5's.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep it straight."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>Hotel was great. Food options were also great. 2010 course is a must. Superb 18 holes.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Just enjoy it."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 24</p>
<p>Have visited several times over the last few years and love everything about Celtic Manor, from the courses, hotel and facilities...as well as extremely good service and food.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice a lot before taking on the 2010."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Preferred the Montgomerie course.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice putting for sure."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Hole 3,16 and 18 were all very good.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 29</p>
<p>The hotel was fantastic, hospitality was second to none, the only complaint that my party had was the drinks were a bit expensive. Looking forward to venue next year.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 39 or more points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>2010 is incredible, tough but fair. Both other courses are very good. Nice to have a few beers in the Lodge Cellar Bar, although they need to sort Sky Sport out. Meal in main clubhouse was really good. Breakfast at Lodge had really poor service and quality, but this in no way spoilt the weekend. It's a 'must visit' for all golfers.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 29 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 7</p>
<p>Hotel great, the Monty course was to hilly.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Great courses, great holes</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice your driving as you need to be straight on most holes."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 28</p>
<p>First time playing the 2010 course and the raised greens with 'run-offs' got me a few times! Will play again and score better hopefully. 5* service all around. Had evening meal at clubhouse- fantastic food. We will be back! </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"On your approach shot, treat the breaks on the raised greens with the greatest respect."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 25</p>
<p>Excellent golf challenge.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Great facility for all standards of golf. Hotel standards achieve customer delight. Although the food and beverages might appear expensive the overall package is good value for money and we will be returning asap.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play within yourself."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Hotel and staff were exceptional, food and service outstanding. We played on all three courses, the marquee course being 2010. However, all three are fantastic courses and I personally found the Roman Road to be the most challenging. The Montgomerie and Roman Road start from the main club house, views on the Montgomerie are fantastic though the course involves a lot of very steep hills. The Roman Road is a lovely course and the holes offer much variety but everyone wants the 2010, which surprisingly for the shorter hitting and higher handicaps proved very forgiving.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Go for it, don't hold back and have fun."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>Celtic Manor is a great venue with top courses for a two/three day trip with everything on site for your group. 2010 course is tough but fair- high and low handicappers can all play it. Your ability determines how many balls you lose. I would go back.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Be aggressive."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>Nice courses, bit of a hassle only driving on pathways with buggies. It slows games down.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Check distances."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>Some stunning holes, can't remember which ones as there was so many. The quality of all the courses make you feel like a professional playing them.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Beautiful course and layout, enjoyed the challenge.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>I enjoyed the whole experience. The golf, our meal at the hotel and the accommodation all made the trip an enjoyable birthday treat.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 27</p>
<p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Use a buggy."</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>The 2010 is a must play for any golfer whatever their handicap.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Watch out for the speed of the greens and attack them with your short irons."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>The hotel was great. The staff were very friendly & helpful, walking down the eighteenth. Don't get buggy's as they are not allowed on the course and you have to stick to path so there is a lot of walking.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Just enjoy the moment."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>15th, 16th, 17th and 18th all brilliant holes. Where possible take your time and think your way round. Hotel was very good.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Great courses, looking forward to playing the 2010.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Stay on the fairways on the Roman Road course. The Montgomerie has some great holes and views especially on the 3rd. A buggy is a must to make the most of your day. Excellent stewarding as they kept us aware of an imminent storm and made sure we got round ahead of it. Overall, a great day of golf.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Be prepared to use every club in your bag."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Need a buggy on the Montgomery course.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>All of the holes were very good on the Celtic Manor 2010 course. I would recommend golfers to play this course at least once, and after once you would want to play it again. The hotel was superb and the room I had was for just myself and it was fantastic. Spa and pool was beautiful. The only one downside to it was they take £50 on your credit card card for incidentals. They charged me more money for my evening meal than I should have paid because they said I should have paid for the evening meal on line, even though I had confirmation that I would be charged less which was on my invoice from yourgolf travel.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"17th is a fantastic par 3, a 3 wood is definitely is recommended."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>18 hole was a great finish. Venue is one of the best I've been too, and despite it being a three hour drive I've played here for the last three years, once a year.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep it on the fairway at all costs."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>I went to Celtic Manor with some friends. While there we played only 9 holes of golf but enjoyed it. The deal I was offered included bed, breakfast and evening meal. The food was excellent. The room was large and in the Manor. The whole place was very busy even though it was mid week and not in school holidays. Staff were always very helpful and friendly.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 36 or more</p>
<p>Great Hotel (the main Celtic Manor Hotel). Everything was fabulous- food, service, rooms, etc. However, our trip was spoiled by putting two non-golfers to play with my partner and myself (we play off 13 & 17). This ruined our whole day. I suggested to the pro shop that they should at least ask people of similar handicaps to play together, but the two people had no idea at all. We felt we were holding the whole course up. These two hackers should not have been playing the Montgomerie Course at all, they must have lost about 20 balls each. No fun for us.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Probably be back but playing 2 courses in 2 days in mid summer was tough going for me so I need to plan better next time.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 22</p>
<p>I got a hole in one on a par 3 and won opportunity to play again on Montgomery/Roman Road. Good value for money, excellent helpful staff and a trio of fantastic well-cared-for courses. A joy to visit and experience where a Ryder Cup was played.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Use a distance measuring device"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Expensive drinks and food in hotel. Clubhouse and Pro Shop great location. Playing 2010 course should be on any golfers bucket list.</p><p></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>Courses are very nice, would recommend buggy for the Montgomery. Resort hotel, facilities and restaurant were excellent.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Hotel and organisation impersonal and unfriendly</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Hotel and organisation impersonal and unfriendly"</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>The hotel was great. I prefer Roman Road to Montgomerie.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 or more points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 28 or less</p>
<p>The main hotel was great, although the Manor was a bit tired with a few loud mouthed people in the bar there. The 2010 course was brilliant despite the excessive rain which filled the bunkers with water. We did swear that we'd go back and play it in better weather (if possible).</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Buy a course guide."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 22</p>
<p>Can't really remember very much because it was 5 years ago. Sorry.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Would love to go back on a sunny day. Lovely course and friendly staff at the venue. Would highly recommend the associated restaurant on the Usk, amazing. Pool was disappointing, as no where near as big as the images portrayed.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Superbly maintained golf courses. Greens good but tricky. Rooms excellent. Possibly would not return as the air conditioning in public rooms is most uncomfortable. Food cools far too quickly as a result.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Roman road and Montgomerie courses both have some great holes and some great views. I would recommend a buggy as the walk between some holes is quite long. Would like to have played the 2010 course but it was a bit pricey.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>One of the best courses in the UK. The hotel and restaurants are fabulous as well.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take plenty of balls."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 23</p>
<p>Montgomerie was tougher than 2010. Enjoyed the dinner out facility with the courtesy coach ride. Hotel bedrooms were excellent. Less impressed with The Vale and would look for alternatives.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Hit the fairways."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>The courses are a decent test and in my opinion, very fun to play. The clubhouses are classy and relaxed. The hotel is superb and the service within the hotel is fantastic.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Adjust clubs for elevation"</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Total wash out. Service not as good as last time. Golf and hotel were good. Food was poor for a 4 star rest/hotel. Have been to lesser high profiled places, which knock Celtic Manor into a cocked hat.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't be afraid to take one club more if necessary."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Courses were in great condition despite the poor weather. The hotel was first class and served an excellent breakfast.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>The 14th hole on the Twenty Ten was fantastic. Hotel is excellent.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>The Manor house was terrific. Particularly liked the Cellar Bar and happy hour. The breakfast was superb and the staff couldn't do enough to ensure a comfortable stay. We played The Montgomerie Course and The Roman Road and the Monty was my favourite. Fantastic deal and all made easy by YGT.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>What a place to play golf. Everything you need. The 2010 course is absolutely superb but very difficult from 11 to 14. Roman Road should not be taken lightly also and is particularly tough on the legs. Will definitely be going back. The staff working there, both in the hotel and on the golf course cannot help enough. Fantastic.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Watch out for holes 11 to 14 on the 2010. Lots of water and tight fairways."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>The room was lovely but they could up the food standards. For a hotel of this caliber the buffets were not first class and I would prefer waiter service and a proper dining room. The courses were lovely but had tracks for the buggy's which then meant taking clubs over to where the ball was. This was not ideal at all. We tried trolleys but again getting from the greens back onto the tracks was really difficult.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Watch the slopes up to the greens on the Montgomerie."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 23</p>
<p>I liked the Par 5 3rd hole on the Montgomerie, as well as the 18th on the 2010 but generally speaking found the holes on the 2010 with water to be the most challenging. A tip for first timers would be to have a buggy on the Montgomerie. We had buggies on the 2010 but not on the Montgomerie and it would have been better the other way around.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take plenty of balls "</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Great venue, the 2010 course is stunning.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Really enjoyed all three golf courses. However the service and the staff were poor. </p><p>1. Extremely slow play (they had 250 people on the Roman Road at one time, it took over 6 hours to get round despite the continuous warnings about slow play) </p><p>2. Lost golf towel while our clubs were in their care and they did not seem the care and only replaced it after 2 days and a long conversation with the manager. </p><p>3. Due to the golf round taking longer than expected we missed our dinner reservation and was told we could only eat at the bar as they were serving food until 9 pm. When we got to the bar at 8:15 pm we were told that they could not serve us any food and we had to order room service. This was not acceptable. </p><p>4. Despite booking and having been confirmed as a twin room we were given a double which had to be changed. </p><p>5. We were told check-in was at 12 am and 2 pm and when we got there they told us we would have to wait until 5 pm. </p><p>6. We had booked a buggy for all rounds of golf. We were told they would cost £32 when we booked these over the phone. However, we paid different prices each day. £30 the first, £34 the second and £36 the third. Inconsistent. they did not seem the care and only replaced it after 2 days and a long conversation with the manager.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>The 14th was my favourite hole.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Enjoy the experience."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 6</p>
<p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Excellent customer service by all staff at the Manor. Courses in good nick &very challenging, try to play in Summer months without the wind. A must visit place for all keen Golfers.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Allow for the wind."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>Long walk to have food but worth it when we arrived.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice putting."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 35</p>
<p>I took a party of 44 to Celtic Manor in June 2012 and could not fault the accommodation, golf courses and food.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Book early and play quickly"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 24</p>
<p>All holes are good but take plenty of club on par three's. Hotel was first class and well presented.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Make sure you have a practice round and take notes."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>Course in good condition. Confusing price structure- I received a special offer golf price via email but no one knew about it and it took ages to resolve.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Overall a fantastic resort. Service in all areas was exceptional. Have already booked for next year.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Use a buggy for the Montgomerie."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Hotel was great, played two courses and would like to go back to play the 2010.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't use a buggy."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>Probably the worst venue I've been too.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 39 or more points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>This is a must for any golfer. Fairways are long off the tee so you need to clear 200 yards from the yellows. Hire a buggy as the walking between holes is excessive, but the fairways and greens are amazing. The hotel itself is stunning and the choice of food overwhelming. You must play here at least once.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>I like all of the holes.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>I have been to Celtic Manor 3 times in small groups and think it is the best value for money resort. The staff go above the expected standard of service, the rooms are more than comfortable and the hotel is very restful and comfortable. All 3 courses are challenging to the average golfer but I would not recommend a buggy, more trouble than worth as you have to stick to the paths and end up walking further. The hills on the Monty are very challenging for the not so fit. Going back next week.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take your wet weather gear."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>3 great courses and each one was a tough test of golf for different reasons. The hotel (manor house) rooms were everything you'd expect of a 4* hotel.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Due to the amount of bunkers on the 2010 course being in the landing area of shots off the tee I would suggest clubbing down where you feel it calls for it. Then you are in a much better position to play your 2nd shots over these bunkers."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>The whole place is the real deal, just fantastic.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Look at the greens on approach."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Great course, great hotel, great golfing break. Would recommend to anyone.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>The hotel was excellent and there was a great atmosphere at the piano bar. The rooms in the lodge were first rate. The golf courses were a fair test of golf and the starter was extremely helpful. The clubhouse was welcoming and the food was very good. The practice facilities were good and the practice green is a good example of the greens.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Ensure you spend enough time on the practice green so you get the pace right before you begin play."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>The hotel was very busy and the service was poor. The food was also disappointing.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>This was a great golf break with a comfortable hotel. The staff at the hotel were friendly. I loved the golf at the 2010 course, you were made to feel like a superstar by the attention given on arrival. The course is tricky but possible to play if you keep your thinking cap on. It is a course which allows you to have fun but you need to navigate your way round it. I loved the water holes and the uphill and downhill ones. The 15th is a special favourite for me. The 18th is a cracking finishing hole where you have to hold your breath as you attempt to go over the water to the green.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Think before you play."</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Top hotel, been there many times. Little peeved to have to pay for parking in a hotel now as a resident. The food was exceptional and I found both club houses relaxing, well stocked and with genuine staff to help your every need.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't go off the fairway on 2010, it's punishing."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>The 2010 experience was fantastic, from the moment you arrive to the time you leave the club house. I found the course to be a real challenge, a little too long for my game.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Enjoy yourself "</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>Enjoyed playing all 3 courses with my son and this was a great experience that we shared together. The 2010 course was a fantastic experience but we also very much enjoyed the Montgomery and Roman Road course. The greens are true and a lot faster than we are used to. The driving range is also great as is the accommodation. All the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful which we appreciated. This was our second visit & I suspect it will not be our last.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take a buggy to enjoy the views."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>Every hole on the 3 courses is a good hole. We stayed in one of the lodges. Definitely recommended.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take 1 more club than you think."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 31 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>The 1st hole on the 2010 course was my favourite hole because it was the start of a brilliant 2 days. Don't come with any preconceived ideas, and you will be pleasantly surprised. I could not fault anything about the hotel. We were well looked after throughout our stay and the food was smashing as was the service. I would recommend this venue to any golfer.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Club selection is vital."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 26</p>
<p>The hotel was very comfortable and plenty of restaurants serving good food at them all. It's better to play the same course twice, as one needs to get the correct line from the tee. It's easy to take the line that appears right, but then find you're blocked out to the green. Buggies must keep the paths, so if your ball is on the other side of the fairway, take two or more clubs when you walk to it. The last 4 holes are particularly tough and if you can manage them in 2 over par, you'll have a good score.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Some of the short holes need the extra club."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>Favourite holes were the 3rd on the monty and the 8th on 2010.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>Hotel & facilities were excellent.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Enjoy it."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 6</p>
<p>2010 course was excellent- not too tight off the tee but you had to be very accurate playing into the greens. Course was in excellent condition. Next time I would walk the course as the buggy paths are too far away from the course. Hotel was very nice and had excellent service.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Give up some yardage from the tee to ensure you hit the fairway."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>We found the resort hotel and its services excellent. The golf courses are fabulous and would suit all abilities. A buggy is a good option for all 3 courses but I'm lazy and like beer. The food is also top notch.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Enjoy the view and the company. Life is too short to be worrying about bad golf."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Nice touches on 2010- balls on range, personalised market and clubs cleaned.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Hotel was fabulous and the course's were great. Tough for me only playing off a 36 handicap. Would go back again.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 36 or more</p>
<p>Great facilities but the strength was the friendliness of the staff.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 27</p>
<p>All courses were completely waterlogged. There was standing water everywhere yet we were still sent out to play. We were given a voucher on the 2nd day but it didn't cover cost of green fees on returning, Restaurant was nice but pricey. Hotel was ok, but nothing to get excited about.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>My only issue with the 2010 course was the speed of play. It took over 5 and half hours to play. My mate had to leave on the 16th as he has to go to work.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>Played Roman Road and Montgomerie. Good tests of golf and in good condition. Accommodation was good too. Dinner was ok, but pricey.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Very fast greens."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 19</p>
<p>9th hole is long but rewarding. Great for long hitters.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Good course management at all times."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>I would eat in the grill at night. Did not like the buffet.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>The hotel is stunning and both the Montgomerie and Roman road courses are tough but fair. You might even get lucky with the weather. The Monty is my favourite with its dramatic elevation changes and it's always in tip top condition. The Roman Road has undergone some changes from when I first played there, but it hasn't done the course any harm. Everyone is friendly and helpful and I look forward to returning soon.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Buy a course planner for your fist round. It will pay for itself."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 7</p>
<p>Roman Road was in nice condition. The Montgomerie was spoiled by traffic. It took four hours for nine holes so we walked off, back to the warmth of the jacuzzi. Buggies extortionate and a necessity for both courses. Hotel accommodation was great. Room was great, the spa was awesome, and the staff couldn't do enough for you. Evening meal at the hotel was a let down. Poor selection and quality, won't stay for the buffet again. I can only assume the a la carte menu was much better. All in all a pleasant stay but won't play the Montgomerie again.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Get a buggy."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 2</p>
<p>Great hotel with 3 fantastic golf courses on the doorstep.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice long putts before you go."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>Celtic Manor provides all you could want in a golfing venue. Stay at the resort if you can, rather than the older, but still very nice Manor. The Manor was once a maternity home and is steeped in local history so you'll still love the experience. The 2010 experience is fantastic; the course may not be the most beautiful you'll ever play, but remember who did what and where and you'll have a thrilling time. The other courses are very good; have a buggy for Roman Road. Many GPS devices are wrong on all 3 courses. Take a laser if you have one and buy a course guide.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Be long rather than short when hitting into 18 on the 2010."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Super courses. However, did not play main course as we played the week before the rainy Rider cup. Hotel was fab but we had upgraded to the main hotel and not the golf hotel. Really super facilities, food and golf for 2!</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't carry on the Montgomery unless you are a Billy Goat. "</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Found the course fair, with some very hard holes and some easy ones. A fantastic venue for a golf break and the hotel is very good.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Make sure you have a practice round."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>Hotel was fine. Room was well appointed and very comfortable. Beer prices towards the upper end as you would expect but not up to London levels. Good breakfast with regular hot additions to the self-service buffet. Some significant walks available within the hotel itself! Strongly advise buggies as green to next tee, particularly on Montgomerie as it can be long and very steep! Great views and pretty good courses in good condition.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Look for another caddy."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Just play the course and don't try and beat it. Also, when it says it's 150 yards to the green its to the front of the green, not the middle.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Just enjoy it "</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>The offer we had was incredible value. The staff were so lovely everywhere- the hotel reception, the bar, the breakfast waiters and waitresses and the golf staff. Well done to everyone and thank you. Both courses were immaculate. They were a great test of golf to any handicapper.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Get a buggy."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>The Celtic Manor Resort was brilliant, they can't do enough for you and really make the effort to make your trip enjoyable. Great value for money and highly recommended.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't miss the fairways."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Hotel was good, breakfast was marvelous. Practice facilities were superb. However, the courses were really busy, and the rounds were slow.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Placement off the tee is key."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>Pre-booking of meals is a must. Montgomerie was a big surprise. 2010 was a little disappointing. Roman was as expected.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Buggies are a good idea."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>The hotel was great. 2010 booking in. All round service is exceptional- 5 star. Must visit and will again.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Get a buggy."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>First tee of Montgomerie was long and had a dog leg keep so if you go down the middle, you have to smash it. Hotel great, Manor House OK. I lost a golf club out of my bag after the staff put my bag out for the next morning before we teed off.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Just keep it straight, no need for trying to hit the skin off the ball, just play within yourself."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>The 2010 course was tough.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play safe."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Played the Montgomerie with a buggy, but didn't realise you had to stay on the buggy track all the time, which was a bit of pain.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Loved the course and loved the hotel. Would love to do it all again.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't go for the green in two at 18."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Roman Road was my favourite course.</p><p></p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take an iron"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>All good.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Par 5 on the Montgomerie overlooking the 2010 course was amazing. Great views.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Hotel great. Loved the Montgomerie course, although Roman road was a bit long and boring</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>The Ryder cup and Roman Road courses where excellent and tough. We should have pre booked our restaurants. Our only choice was the buffet, and that wasn't that great, but that was our own fault. Drinks at the hotel are typical of any venue miles away from another bar, so we budgeted for this.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Go for it"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>I have been to Celtic Manor three times in small groups and think it is the best value for money resort. The staff go above the expected standard of service, the rooms are more than comfortable and the hotel is very restful. All 3 courses are challenging to the average golfer but I would not recommend a buggy. More trouble than worth as you have to stick to the paths and end up walking further.
<p>Hotel and staff are amazing.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice putting greens are lightning quick."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>17th hole was a great par 3. Make sure you carry plenty of spare balls. The hotel was 5 star.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Stay on the fairway as the rough is penalising."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Really nice complex, hotel was nice with plenty to do. Rooms were nice and spacious. Courses were wet when we played them, still in good nick though. Would like to go back soon when weather is better.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Plot your way round"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Plays on its name and is very busy. Suffers from fog due to its location. Although, the greens are good there are far better courses out there.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Go at the pins."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>On the 2010 course all the holes had there own problems. A good test of golf apart from hole 15.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>People with buggies take twice as long from buggy to ball and then don't have the right club when they get there. Extremely slow and when we played the courses they were not up to standard. I think there is too much hype surrounding the courses.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take wellingtons."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 3</p>
<p>The Monty 3rd hole was brilliant. Hotel was top class. Tip for playing- just enjoy it.</p><p></p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Go when it's dry."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Fantastic venue with the atmosphere to match. To play where the big boys have been really shows how good they are. Wonderful layout and views. Most memorable.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"The middle of the fairway is essential"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>I like the 3 courses. My tip is to enjoy yourself, don't beat yourself up if you make a mistake. The hotel is 1st class. Great food, spa and a farewell breakfast as good as you'll get.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Played 2010 and Roman Road. 2010 is cruel- some shots appear great but the shaved banks and run-off areas can give a harsh outcome. Thoroughly enjoyed it and want to play it again. It does take time though and having to stick to buggy paths is a pain. I would probably walk next time. Roman Road was quirky and would also like to play again. </p><p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - Be conservative first time out."</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>All 3 courses were great! Staff on the courses and club houses were very informative and very helpful. The hotel we stayed in (The Manor) was disappointing and we had issues with some of the staff taking money off my card without my authorisation.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>On day one 20 Ten treated us like visiting professionals. Good experience playing the Ryder Cup course but not easy and a buggy helped. Hotel and restaurants super. Try dinner at the Rafters. Both Manor and Resort comfortable hotels. Montgomerie and Roman Road good test of golf. Staff across the resort friendly and helpful. </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take enough golf balls and enjoy the experience. "</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>We've played both the Montgomerie and the Roman courses. Personally I prefer the Montgomerie because there are some very scenic holes, a handful with spectacular views. However I'd advise anyone playing the Montgomerie, at least to take a trolley and better still to take a buggy. Some of the green to tee walks are very hilly. Overall Celtic Manor is a wonderful golf venue and the best testament to this is that my golf group, who usually never return to the same courses for our annual trip, have now been back to Celtic Manor for three successive years, and planning a fourth in 2016.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>The 2010 course at Celtic Manor is a 'must do' experience for keen golfers. Expect it to be tough though! We found the main hotel to be very busy and were pleased to have reserved a room in the annexe which was much more peaceful.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Great course. Very challenging but good fun. Unfortunately the hotel room was very warm overnight and I was unable to turn it down, which made for two sleepless sticky nights.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>20 of us played 2010 & we all thought it was brilliant. All played Monty & as expected it was not as good as 2010, but still very good. Hotel and staff were excellent. Would look forward to returning.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Hotel was great, and it is much cheaper to stay with your golf travel booking than booking direct.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 26</p>
<p>Bought this as a gift for my mother for mothers day. Me and her played the golf and then my father stayed the night with my mother. Course was great and my parents said the hotel was 1st class. Definitely recommend the Celtic manor.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>Twenty Ten course was fine, but the others not so good.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>We played Roman Road and Montgomerie and there were some nice holes and a couple of quirky/blind holes. Hotel was nice, bar food was expensive, but nice pubs locally.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>The hotel was fantastic.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>From the moment we arrived, the service provided by the staff in all areas was exceptional. The organisation was first class and the golf courses in pristine condition. My wife, who plays off 30, and myself both found all 3 courses an interesting challenge and particularly enjoyed the personal experience and excitement of the 2010. Room in the hotel was smashing, some fine bars and the course club rooms and the restaurants had a fine choice of quality food. The choice of food at breakfast was second to none, and really set you up for the day. We had a really great time, thank you.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Warm up on the 2010 driving range before you go to the first."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>Buggy expensive, but essential. Food in the self service restaurant was very ordinary.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 24</p>
<p>Hotel great, organisation great. The 2010 course is difficult for high handicappers. Well worth the trip. Great value.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Relax"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>None of the courses lived up to my expectations.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Great facilities, and both the Mongomerie and 2010 are great courses.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep on the fairway."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>You need a buggy for the course and green to tee is a very long walk.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>All brilliant holes and you need your thinking cap on.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Extra club for the wind."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 8</p>
<p>The hotel was brilliant.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Make use of the practice putting area."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>The 2010 course was a great experience. I found it great to walk rather than take a buggy. You have to think your way round the course as every hole has its own challenge whether it is lots of bunkers (2nd hole) or water, hills, slopes etc. Great halfway house and was very welcome at that point of the round. 18th was great as it was a challenge to land on the green and not roll back into the water or not over hit it and put it in to one of a number of bunkers. Clubhouse was great and had a great balcony to watch others attempting the 18th.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Think about what is in front of you and be realistic about the distances you can hit the ball."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>2010 was a great course.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't go left"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Although the Welsh weather was not kind to us, we still had a great time at the resort. It offers great value when compared to other venues around the UK that have hosted big events. For anyone who went to the 2010 Ryder Cup, playing the 2010 course is a must. It's amazing how many shots you remember seeing and how few you are able to recreate (other than the Mahan duff on 17!). Beware: The 18th hole is a very tough test on a wet day when playing into the wind.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play within yourself. Play safe to hit fairways & avoid the long rough at all costs."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>5* all round.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>Very tough course for the higher handicapper.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>The 2010 course was fantastic, with a number of great holes. Both Montgomerie and Roman Road are also both good courses with some memorable holes.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>The accommodation was extremely poor- dirty worn and low grade. The reception staff showed no interest. The 2010 course was so wet, it was nearly unplayable. The buggy was useless as the buggy path was so far from the playing area. Rain on the second day so the course was closed. Would not think of recommending Celtic Manor to anybody.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Courses were good, although Roman Road is close to the road and I found this to be not so enjoyable as the Montgomerie course. Unfortunately the meal and service at the 2010 restaurant was not good, but the manager did speak to us personally and offered us a glass of champagne as an apology.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 32</p>
<p>Favourite hole is the 3rd on the Montgomerie. Stunning views over Usk valley, 600+ yards down hill.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Be prepared for a long walk to the 1st on the Montgomerie."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>All 3 courses will test any player.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Fairway play and putting on greens are key to these courses."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Montgomerie: very hilly, played with two members who guided us round, otherwise we would have struggled to place our shots in the right areas. A very slow round, 5 hours. </p><p> Roman Road: more difficult, greens very tricky. </p><p> Both courses were very busy, my wife and I had to play as a 4 ball - not ideal, but all players were in 4 balls. Hotel and restaurant were both excellent.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>In contrast to other golf resorts that we visited on the same golf tour, every member of staff that we encountered during our stay was friendly, helpful and wanted us to enjoy every aspect of our time at Celtic Manor. We would definitely recommend playing all three courses if you can spare the time, and are prepared to pay the extra for TwentyTen.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>Outstanding place to spend my 40th, all three courses were great but the TwentyTen course was brilliant. The service of the staff was excellent and the little touches really made a difference- having your clubs ready each morning, little souvenirs and any request was catered to. </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take a buggy on the Montgomerie course."</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Absolutely amazing place, from the hotel to the courses. I can not wait to return to play the 2010.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Definitely need a buggy on Montgomerie."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>This being the 16th stay should in itself speak for the venue. Certainly has the wow factor- a great experience and a must do for all.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 38 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>A very long course with some interesting holes, particularly towards the end. Great hotel and pro shop. Helpful staff. Would love to play it again in better conditions.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 7</p>
<p>Awesome in every way.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Pack it light!"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 37 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>Great stay in Celtic Manor. 2010 course was great and we were lucky with the weather. Roman road was very wet, but it was to be expected for November. Hotel and Spa were great and I ate like a pig in the restaurant!</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>All golf holes where great. Hotel was very nice.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Enjoy your round."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Resort hotel was great and so were the facilities and breakfast. Going back in September to play the twenty ten course.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Walk the course in advance."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 6</p>
<p>All three courses are a challenge but 2010 is something special. All the staff go out of their way to make it a great day. Nice touches with your name on the lockers and a bag tag.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Think your way round and make the most of your handicap."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Play all three courses if you get the chance, as all are different, whilst still being challenging and in excellent condition. I preferred the main hotel, although restaurants in the Manor were good. Although I usually walk, I suggest you hire a buggy if playing all three courses, as sometimes it is a long walk between green and tee. This is Wales, so come prepared for rain. Clubs are well looked after by staff and will be dry ready for the next day's play. No drying facilities in rooms though, so bring 2 pairs of golf shoes.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Practice your short game before playing."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 23</p>
<p>The place was being done up so there was some disruption but it didn't affect the overall enjoyment. Unfortunately, the weather was not too kind so the courses were not at their best. Very good value for the money paid and intend to return.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Always look to leave the ball on greens with an uphill put."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Off my handicap Montgomerie was the most suitable, but all were a good knock and it would be no hardship to return. </p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>Played the Montgomerie and the 2010 and was really impressed. The Montgomerie held some stunning views and was in really good nick. The whole experience on the 2010 was worth every minute of the drive down from London. From the meet and great at the hotel all the way down to the use of the practice facilities and then the post round reception including club cleaning, made you feel very privileged. Course was in top condition and brought back great memories of the Ryder cup.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p><p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Every interaction with the staff at Celtic Manor was abysmal. They really don't care about the customers. The Montgomerie course is terrible- an amalgamation of an old course and a par three course- with walks between green and tee like you wouldn't believe. The pace of play on the Roman Road was so slow that we walked off after 9 holes. No one should go here. Ever. </p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 10</p>
<p>Loved the 2010! Great customer service.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Stay out of the rough."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Hotel & facilities were first class, Montgomerie course was a good test & varied. Roman road course wasn't quite as good. I would still recommend Celtic Manor to all though.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take lots of balls."</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Couldn't fault the place. Hotel on scale with a large Vegas hotel and impeccable service. Course is as tough as you want to make it, as they have numerous tee box positions.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Club up 90% of the time, huge greens."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>They close the courses and stack you up on the ones they keep open. If you are a 2 ball you will be paired with others. My partner was taken ill on the 1st hole of 2 days play. He approached the pro who took his details but gave no offer for playing at a later date.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 18</p>
<p>Great venue for both golf and leisure activities. All the wives and girlfriends raved about it all. The staff were very efficient and helpful during our stay and dinner on both evenings was superb. 2010 course was as good as last year and a great test. Will be back.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Enjoy the views and don't get upset with your golf."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Ensure you buy a course planner to plot your way around the course.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Greens are very fast and slopey."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>Golf great, staff great. Buggies are not allowed on the course so will slow up walkers due to 90 D rule. Hotel was good but restaurants close early if your playing twilight.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Greens are always very fast."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Found the hotel a little tired and dated, the courses were good but we played when the weather was awful, blowing a gale and pouring down with rain, so me and my friends didn't really enjoy it very much, but I wouldn't mind trying it again some time, in better weather</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>I played the Montgomerie on the 1st day followed by the 2010 on the 2nd. Both courses were fantastic to play, and although there were some holes beyond a mid-handicaps capabilities, it was fantastic fun trying them. My personal favorite hole was the 10th on the Montgomerie, suits a nice draw. The hotel was very comfortable and the food and bars were excellent.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Use good course management."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 35 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Hole 5 was excellent.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Try to hit long."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>The hotel (5* resort), the 3 courses, the price, the service- everything was amazing. Loved the Montgomery and the TwentyTen course was phenomenal. I've been to the likes of the Belfry and Woodhall and they pale into insignificance. Bit gutted it's so far away for me because I'd love to go back. Went with my step father, mother and my wife, we loved the golf, the ladies loved the venue and despite the food and drinks being very steep it was well worth it. I want to go back so bad.....if you can't decide on your next venue, please please please go here, and play all 3 courses, oh and take a 60 degree wedge for the Twenty Ten bunkers... </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Take a full swing out of every bunker."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Manor House hotel was great, nice friendly/helpful staff. Preferred the Roman Road to the Montgomerie, although both courses present challenges to both the low and high handicapper. Overall a great experience and we are going back in October.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Greens are testing, so take the opportunity to have a practice putt."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 or more points</p>
<p>Had a great time. Well looked after. The hotel is excellent. Courses are stunning. Will go back.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>This venue has it all- great golf, accommodation and food.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Enjoy."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 4</p>
<p>Next time we go I would play the Montgomerie course and 2010 course. Roman road was not one of the best tracks I have played.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 39 or more points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 19</p>
<p>Breakfast was terrible, like a motorway service.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 16</p>
<p>Roman Road was brilliant and an underrated course. 2010 was extremely difficult in the wind. We had a high wind that almost killed the game for us.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Assume 2010 will dismantle your game and just enjoy the experience."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 30 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>Nice hotel and nice meal. Courses a challenge and in excellent condition. Would've liked to see more water hazards (Montgomerie & Roman Road) and some can feel a bit samey. Service was exemplary. Rather annoying having to rigidly stick to paths in buggies. However, I guess this helps to keep fairways in good nick. Though sometimes, if your unsure, you have to trudge over to the other side of fairway holding four clubs to get your ball.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 17</p>
<p>You are treated as an important guest from the very first moment you turn up. Clubs taken and cleaned, car parked for you, all facilities shown and explained. You even get your own locker with your name on it. The hotel was also fantastic, but we went out to eat at a local pub. Great Brains beer and good value food (Hanbury Arms). £6 taxi each way. I'd thoroughly recommend visiting Celtic manor, but now I've done the Twenty10 course I wouldn't go back as I want to try other flagship courses.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Have a go at 16."</i></p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 12</p>
<p>All very good holes except the 15th- making it a very short drive-able hole through the woods has spoilt it.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Beware, run off areas by the greens."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>Went early in the season during April. All three courses were a pleasure to play. Definitely worth the trip down from the North West. If you haven't been don't hesitate. It's golfing heaven!</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Make sure your battery is fully charged for the Montgomerie course. "</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>Use a buggy on the Montgomery course.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>2010 is a great championship course. The other two are great parkland-type courses with a few spectacular holes. The resort is fantastic for a golf holiday- three courses in one venue and ample practice facilities. Easy to get around with the set up at the hotel and some excellent restaurants. I played Roman Road and Montgomerie on my first visit and wished I had included the 2010. 2nd time I played the Montgomerie and 2010. It's definitely worth playing if you're a <15 handicap. </p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Play the 2010 in any holiday break."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>We would be interested in a night away, our friends are not golfers but wouldn't mind a night away if the price is as you say! (Retired Scots). We stayed there last year and it was a very nice venue.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Keep the ball on the fairway,"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 6</p>
<p>Venture into town for a bite. Lovely pubs about.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Putting is key"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>The Roman Road and Montgomerie Courses are good, solid resort courses and while they didn't blow my socks off, playing them on such an affordable stay & play deal is well worth the money. The Twenty Ten Course is definitely the highlight of any trip to Celtic Manor so even with the added cost in mind, I'd recommend golfers give it a go at least once. The whole "member for a day" experience is built into the cost and makes your day a lot of fun.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Please book a buggy for us to use. I don't fancy some of the walks between various tees and greens, especially on the Montgomerie and Roman Road courses!"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 7</p>
<p>Had a great round of match play, going all the way to the 18th.</p><p></p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Go for it on 15, you only live once."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>Hotel was great, and the course was challenging with the weather condition. The personalisation of the trip was great- personalised locker and ball makers.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 32 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>The whole experience was excellent from arrival to departure. The staff were completely helpful throughout and should be commended. The golf was good too.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Be careful of over hitting on the second (Montgomerie Course)."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 29 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 19</p>
<p>Great place, top class, great course.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Know how to play in the wind."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 14</p>
<p>Fantastic course. Great service all round. Definitely will return. The Hotel was fabulous with excellent facilities.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 24</p>
<p>My favourite course is the Roman Road. Definitely get a buggy for the Montgomerie. Hotel great for non golfers as well.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Make sure you have a practice putt."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 36 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 15</p>
<p>Great course, venue (hotel) not so great.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 13</p>
<p>Lovely hotel, golf courses rubbish.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Don't let anyone use buggies."</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 9</p>
<p>Good but a bit crowded.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 5</p>
<p>I thought the Montgomerie was a great course, but the Roman road needed some care. Overall though, a great golfing experience.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 33 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 21</p>
<p>Hotel lovely, buffet was average and busy, Montgomerie course was a nice play.</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 20</p>
<p>Shame it was so wet, otherwise I would have enjoyed it more.</p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 28 or less points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 23</p>
<p>Loved the 2010! Great customer service.</p> <p><b>My Caddy Tip</b> - <i>"Stay out of the rough"</i></p> <p><b>Stableford Score</b> - 34 points</p> <p><b>Handicap</b> - 11</p>
<p>We had a fantastic time at Celtic Manor and couldn't fault any part of the trip. The organisation and ease of booking offered through yourgolftravel means we will definitely use you guys again!</p> <p>The golf courses were very wet following the recent rain but were still in good condition and certainly very playable. The Twenty Ten experience is one that we will remember for a long time. The tour of the clubhouse and Ryder Cup team rooms was a nice touch as were the free range balls and club cleaning after the round. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff who were always on hand to help.</p> <p>The hotel is truly 5 stars too; a real touch of luxury and I might even be forced to take the wife next time! </p> <p>Overall the trip provided good value for money but be prepared to pay out for food and drink as it's not cheap anywhere within the resort. If you want a few drinks take advantage of happy hour at the Cellar Bar (17:30 to 19:00)!<br></p>
<p>We played the Montgomerie and the Twenty Ten on our golf break to Celtic Manor and both courses have a fabulous layout and were in great nick. The 3rd hole Par 5 on the Montgomerie is one of the most beautiful holes I have ever played. Superbly framed by tall trees either side off the tee, then as you get down the hill you get the views of the valley and of the Twenty Ten Course; simply breathtaking. </p> <p>The Twenty Ten is also brilliant. The holes with water are just visually amazing and also a great, tough test of golf. The greens were extremely receptive yet still nice and quick to putt on.</p> <p>Very welcoming in the Lodge after the Montgomerie and the 2010 clubhouse is superb too. We loved the Ryder Cup changing rooms!</p> <p>We stayed in the Manor House and the rooms were top drawer, with great service and an excellent buffet dinner in the Olive restaurant; so much choice and all delicious.</p> <p>Overall: 9.5/10...Celtic Manor is right up there with The Grove; absolutely top class.</p> <p>YGT were brilliant and our golf break was a bargain. We will definitely be using you guys again.<br></p>
<p>An excellent trip. The Resort Hotel at Celtic Manor was amazing and we were very well looked after, with excellent food and lovely and clean guestrooms.</p> <p>The golf courses were in excellent condition and we found the Montgomerie to be very challenging indeed!</p> <p>We’d definitely recommend Celtic Manor to friends and found it to be a pleasurable experience altogether.<br></p>
<p>We had a great golf break at Celtic Manor so thanks to YGT! The weather was kind and the service offered by your company was second to none. </p> <p>We were blown away by the resort on the whole. Our bedroom was huge with a balcony overlooking the Roman Road’s 15th hole and the standard of the service in the hotel was fantastic.</p> <p>All the golf courses were fantastic with the Twenty Ten in particularly good condition ahead of the upcoming Welsh Open. </p> <p>We will certainly be returning again and would recommend Celtic Manor to anyone along with YGT or course!<br></p>
<p>We had the most wonderful stay at Celtic Manor.</p> <p>Both games of golf were superb but unfortunately our play was not, although there were the occasional good shots. The condition of the courses and the magnificent views were breathtaking.</p> <p>Our dinner that night at the Lodge was delicious and breakfast the next morning was equally as good. Everyone at the hotel gave excellent service, contributing to a truly a memorable stay.<br></p>
<p>Having visited the Celtic manor through Your Golf Travel last year, we knew we were in for a treat and were very much looking forward to it. </p> <p>Arriving at the hotel after a 2hr 30min journey from Central London was great. In my opinion it's everything a hotel should be; welcoming, warm and replete with amenities, serving great food and with comfortable accommodation! We settled into a lovely meal in one of their great restaurants and then got an early night ready for golf the next day.<br> <br> The Twenty Ten course; WHAT AN EXPERIENCE! The whole day is geared around your enjoyment and it's what I imagine a professional golfer feels like week in week out. Clubs are collected upon arrival and delivered to the first tee or driving range. The you’re shown to your locker and given a little talk about the Ryder Cup history and the team rooms...five star!<br> <br> We were both lucky enough to be striking the ball very well however the scoring was a little more sporadic which points to the challenge of the course. It's a course that is so rewarding when you get a string of pars but will instantly punish you for bad play and you may lose a few shots on one hole if you get out of position.<br> <br> All in all it was a great experience once again. I have booked three trips through your golf travel and each one has provided me with a great memory including a 15 man stag do to Portugal. I will always book my golf trips through yourselves and recommend you to all my golfing pals!<br></p>
<p>We had an absolutely great time at Celtic Manor and could not have been treated better from the minute we arrived until we left for home; absolutely first class. I will have no problem telling friends to go here on future golf breaks and also to book with Your Golf Travel.<br></p>
<p>The Twenty Ten Course at Celtic Manor was brilliant. It was in excellent condition for the time of year that we played it and very tough off the white tees at around 7,000 yards! It’s probably a good idea to consider which tees you play from carefully but the overall Twenty Ten experience is certainly recommended. </p> <p>The Roman Road course was also excellent. The greens were a little on the slow side but very true and overall layout was great!</p> <p>Both clubhouses had very welcoming atmospheres and the service was excellent. Food and drink weren’t too pricey either so we were very pleased.</p> <p>The hotel was brilliant with lovely guestrooms. We’d happily stay here again !</p> <p>Overall I would give the trip a 10/10 everything was as I expected and didn't disappoint. The YGT service was great too and very helpful so thanks once again.<br></p>
Sorry, your filter options returned no results.
Conditions made the rough and even fairway very difficult to play
The conditions of the fairway and rough weren’t great. This was primarily due to the weather but it would have been good to gave at least ball cleaners on the tees and other simple things that would improve the experience.
So disappointed! We spent more time looking for our balls which were plugged due to the really poor course conditions and lack of drainage. A lot of golf balls are still on or rather in the fairways. It really should have been closed in my opinion and others that we spoke with also concur. ☹️

It had clearly rained a lot and the course was very boggy, but it’s a lovely course overall. Definitely recommend a buggy, there are such long walks between some of the holes
It was such a shame it had rained so much - the fairways were practically unplayable, on multiple occasions we hit balls to the middle of the fairway but they plugged so deep they disappeared. The course was magnificent
A bucket list course ticked off the list! Great to be able to step into the footprints of some Ryder Cup legends! The course has a nice layout to it, it is a nice walk in the valley with a some lovely views. I enjoyed playing the 2010 and felt it was the type of course you would enjoy playing again and again. It’s a nice length, a good challenge with some good holes that make you think and a really strong set of finishing holes. We played in late March in ideal conditions on the day and light which highlighted how beautiful the landscape is, however they have obviously had a lot of weeks of rain so the course was extremely boggy. Tees and greens were in great condition (greens slightly on the slow side, kept slightly long given the recent conditions I expect) but a lot of soft squelchy patches underfoot. No roll on the fairways as a result, in fact balls were just plugging. You’d hit a great drive and then lose your ball because you couldn’t find it plugged deeply on the fairway. Must have found 4 or 5 lost balls that had plugged on the fairway. Flip side of the conditions was that the greens were nice and receptive and fun to attack. Would like to play it in the summer in its peak condition. Only minor criticisms would be I was surprised there was no flag colour coding system or anything to tell you how far the flag was on, no ball washers and not much by the way of on course marker. Even the famous drivable dog leg doesn’t have a bell???
This course was first class. From start to finish the experience was great. The staff were polite and professional at all times, really made us feel welcome. We all are looking at going to play the 2010 again.
The course was in appalling condition, with all fairways soaked and any ball driven ending up being plugged and non visible. Standing water in many areas making it exceptionally difficult to navigate a trolley around. Mud was over the golf shoes in places. In my opinion a total waste of time going out.
Wasn't able to play due to conditions. Didn't want to give a poor rating so put all 4s. Visually looked good from the clubhouse. Flatter than Montgomery course.
Very hilly, I recommend buggies. The round was slow due to conditions, rather than pace of play. Very wet at the time (March) and spent time looking for balls that plugged. Brilliant views, particularly back 9. High handicappers will find it tough. Plays long when wet and cold (Limited ball carry and no roll out on landing).

Playing conditions almost unplayable due to weather. But the team at the pro shop recognised this and made some nice gestures to compesate. James was great and helped out.
My husband said he enjoyed the golf especially as this was a gift 😊
Un playable
Sorry guys, the Celtic Manor courses are to be avoided in the winter. In one of the highest rainfall areas of the UK, the courses have been built on a clay base with no drainage ditches on the fairways despite being part of the Celtic Manor Resort which requires that the courses are open regardless of the weather. The Pro and managers all agreed that the courses shouldn't be open but are obliged by their partnership with the Celtic Manor Resort to be open 365 days a year. Will we get our money back, I would doubt it, we were offered another freebie winter round as compensation, but who will pay the travel costs to get there ?
Sorry guys, the Celtic Manor courses are to be avoided in the winter. In one of the highest rainfall areas of the UK, the courses have been built on a clay base with no drainage ditches on the fairways, despite being part of the Celtic Manor Resort which requires that the courses are open regardless of the weather. You know that after you have hit your opening shot on the first, slightly offside of the fairway in what was good looking grass, to find your ball had imbedded itself angled in rather than just plugged and looking back across at your partner in the centre of the fairway with soft ground / water over her laces in her shoes, trying to hack the ball out with a big chunk of mud every shot, that this wasn't going to be a great round. We played the second, looked ahead to see none of the players ahead on the third, I guess they all did what we did and walked back to the clubhouse. Really poor guys, these courses are badly in need of investment of drainage ditchs to be considered worthy if you want to play them at all in the winter months. The Pro and managers all agreed that the courses shouldn't be open but are obliged by their partnership with the Celtic Manor Resort to be open 365 days a year. Will we get our money back, I would doubt it, we were offered another freebie winter round as compensation but who will pay the travel costs to get there ?
Again, should not have been open. Formalities when we arrived were a nice touch but course was too wet to play, lost dozens of balls between us, even on fairways
Complete waste of time. All 3 courses were so wet they were completely unplayable. Should have been closed but remained open so refunds didn’t have to be given obviously. Gave up after 3 holes
Excellent hospitality and course in good condition for the time of the year.
Course is far too wet and should be shut for several months. Celtic Manor favouring profit over safety.
Again to wet to play really greens & buggy paths were the dryest part came off with water proofs and shoes in a right mess 😭
Very very wet it shouldn't have been open balls were plugging off the tee finding them was a problem 😕
playing golf in Wales in November is always risky, however, we caught an excellent sunny day but conditions were still soggy underfoot which was challenging on some holes. Green had been spiked but were still excellent and fast but true. We had a good round taking into account the conditions and are planning a return trip when we can get a decent run of the golf ball on the fairways
Just like playing a public course, needed wellington boots not golf shoes to play in. Another course that shouldn’t have been open. In places on the fairway your feet sunk 6 inches. Never coming back and definitely wouldn’t recommend it.
Course should have been closed. Can’t believe that the course was open, it was so wet and boggy you were loosing balls when you hit the fairway. Just like playing in a quagmire. I wouldn’t bother going back and I think they are just using the Ryder Cup as a draw to get you there. Played much better courses. On a plus note the staff were very friendly and helpful. Won’t be recommending it to anyone.
Great time on course - lovely to be able To play such a great iconic course. Hard and challenging but fun too. Staff brilliant in club house and first tee. Liked the bag tag too- great souvenir
Great course , interesting. Very hilly but amazing scenery too. Great holes / challenging
Great course, played this on the dryest day we had, good weather. Greens were immaculate considering, fairways were sludgy in places, but we got round really quickly. Great course.
Iconic Ryder cup venue, as with everything at Celtic Manor it was superb. As with the rest of the stay, the heavy rain in the previous days made a great course harder. Still had a great time by all of our party. Greens were immaculate again.
Tough course, made harder by the amount of rainfall in the days previous. Very sludgy in parts, but the greens were immaculate. Hard slog, due to weather but still enjoyable. Not much the course can do about British weather.
Some really nice holes, course overall is good, very sandy greens
Wow, what a place, some lovely little touches that were unexpected, never got a name tag in the locker as expected but that didn’t dampen anything. Everything about this experience is just on another level, greens are rapid!!
Greens fantastic fairways boggy
Greens fantastic fairways boggy
Greens fantastic fairways very boggy
We had 50 mph winds and driving rain for most of the round but it played well except for bunkers which were sodden. A tough course.
Unfortunately we had a lot of rain leading up to our day but except for the bunkers the course was fairly good
Great service on this course
Had to walk no buggies available you need one on this course
The course played ok and I definitely recommend taking a buggy round the Monty as it’s very hilly and there is some distance between greens & tees.
We were under very tight time constraints due to having to attend a function on the evening we played the Twenty Ten, so a 5-hour round wasn’t ideal and we had to forfeit playing 16, 17 & 18. However the course is in great condition although slightly wet on the day. Looking forward to playing it again, perhaps without an 8-year gap this time.
Absolutely brilliant. Every hole presents a different challenge. Greens were fun to play
Both Montgomerie and Roman Road are very challenging but fair. The greens were in excellent condition as were the courses in general
Good value
Very disappointing that hole 18 out of action. Asked for compensation and not even a drink from the fridge offered!
Enjoyable
Great course. I think best out of the 3 courses there. Bunkers could do with more sand tho.
Very nice course layout. Fairways were not that good. Very bobble muddy. Ball can never roll out. Needs a good cut. Semi rough was very rough. Same again needs a cut. Didnt understand it because roman road was brilliant.
I would advise arriving at the 2010 course At least 45mins before your tee time to get checked in and prepped. The course requires you to drive or use one of the hotel shuttle buses to get there as it’s quite away from the main resort. Upon arrival, drop your clubs off then park. Clubs are taken to your buggy or if walking dropped at the starter hut for you. Shuttle service on offer to take you to the first tee. Practise area next to the starter hut to. We had a buggy but could only stick to the paths and not drive on the course which was annoying as it meant you had to park up walk to your ball get the yardage walk back to the buggy to get the right club then back to your ball or take a guess of the yardage and take 2/3 clubs with you! If you are playing with someone who finds a lot of walking difficult check first if you can drive the buggy on the fairways otherwise you will be in for a lot of walking and it may not suit that individual who finds a lot of walking difficult.
Alot more hilly and challenging than the Roman course But overall amazing place
Amazing quality if we done again we would trolly or carry Buggy paths can be frustrating
As with the 2010 course buggies had to be kept on paths so very slow again.
Great course but wouldn’t play with buggies again as had to keep to path. This made the round very slow at 5 hours 30 minutes. Had to wait on every shot
Most interesting of the 3 courses .. more positional than about how far you can hit it.
Course again in pristine condition despite the volume of rain it has had to deal with. Not as busy as the other courses which was a bonus .. Time to really enjoy the course.
Course was in great condition given the volume of rain it has had to deal with. The greens were hard .. fast with a lot of breaks, slopes. Really enjoyable though.
A more traditional course with one or two tricky holes and still a test. There was some groundwork when we played which was a minor disruption. Greens in good condition.
Should be named the Walt Disney course not the Montgomerie. Only about two pins visible from any tee and a huge number of blind shots. If you are playing with someone who knows their way around then perhaps it is a test but if it's your first time it is a gruelling experience which if your purpose is an enjoyable round of golf it doesn't come up to scratch. The conditions were wet when we played which didn't enhance the experience but I suspect even the dry would not have been significantly better. If you are only playing two courses on your trip avoid this one.
Choose the correct tees for your game and this is a pleasant course to play. Despite the wet conditions from the wettest July on record the greens were in good condition. Lots of water, geese and ducks!
Very good and enjoyable, great value for money.
Only criticism was as a 2 ball we were behind 3 4 balls so it was a bit slow, but the course was great and staff were very helpful. Clubhouse was also a great experience.
Very undulating course. Lot of steep walks between some greens & tees. Some great views.
Fantastic. Above expectation. Great to play the iconic holes.
Very enjoyable to play, some memorable holes. Greens undulating & VERY fast. Downside - sand in some bunkers was very hard.
Roman Road exceeded our expectations. Where as we went into 2010 expecting the wow factor, this one was a very nice compliment. Long in places and not as open (more trees, less water!), but challenged you particularly with some of the complex green and up and down nature of some holes. I had arguably more fun. I'd recommend playing this particularly if you have 18+ HCPs in your group.
A tough course! Rewards the big hitters, especially when you are playing in 35mph wind and horizontal rain. The course itself is fairly open with water being the main danger, some of the holes feel abit forgettable but theres a great section in the middle with the lakes. Not as hilly as expected until the last 3 holes and then you craving a beer after being on course for nearly 5 hours. Outside of the course you have a nice clubhouse with all the 2010 trappings and some fun touches with 1st hole photos, bag tags and par 3 challenges. Worth a visit but can't say i'd be rushing back.
Another epic course. The par 5 12th! Wow!
Unbelievable! Immense! hardest course I've played but loved it!
Loved the greens!
We loved it
Excellent
Excellent
Must have a buggy because of the long distances between some holes. Having to stick to the buggy paths adds to much time to the round. We have been made aware of past tragedies for which we have great sympathy but as the buggies can be limited as to where they can go we would not have thought it was neccessary to stick to path when fairways are hard
A good test of golf on varied terrain. A long walk not spoiled but enhanced by variety of holes to test your thinking as much as your golf ability. Probably the course of the three that I'd most like to play again
An experience as much as a round of golf that will live in the memory. Very much recommended
Good course design with lots of contour. Fairways tired in places maybe volume of use however overall a good golfing experience for a "3rd course"
Excellent
Much better than the Montgomery
Fairways very dry and hard almost no grass Yes it has been very dry weather but you would have expected some kind of fairways irrigation system
Get a golf buggy Long walks up and down hills And between holes
Well, where do I start? It seems hot summer conditions confuse Welsh grounds keepers. The greens were okay and quicker than the Monty, the fairways hard, bumpy and like concrete (good luck getting a club under the ball), all of the bunkers were clay with no sand, and likely to damage your wrists, your clubs or both. Play was glacially slow and we heard from the group in front that the players in front of them were, to a man, all drunk even before they teed of at 11.30am, which clearly contributed (why did the resort staff not step in and refuse to allow them to play?). We gave up after 12 holes, disappointed and frustated. Venue seems more keen to take money off you (55 quid for a buggy!) and get as many out on the course at a time (in whatever condition) than to provide a great golfing experience. Nice bite to eat on the clubhouse patio afterwards, though!
Well, where do I start? It seems hot summer conditions confuse Welsh grounds keepers. The greens were slow, the fairways hard, bumpy and like concrete (good luck getting a club under the ball), the bunkers (other than one or two at the start of the round) were clay with no sand, and likely to damage your wrists, your clubs or both. There was very little decent signage, barber's poles or other assistance to help first time players here navigate the course. An interesting track spoiled by how it was presented. Venue seems more keen to take money off you (55 quid for a buggy!) and get as many out on the course at a time than to provide a great golfing experience.
Resort is card only (no cash) this needs to be put on their website.
We had a range of Golfers in our group of 24 varying from 5 to 28 handicap and without exception it was felt that the course was not suitable for a society. Greens too fast , Bunkers very poor & distance between some Tees and Greens long way. A number of us have played the Roman Road before which was fine.
General condition of course was excellent, some greens had been attacked by the local crows with severe peck marks on them. Round was very slow, however the course Marshall did give the group holding everyone up a bit of a Gee up and the pace of play improved for the back nine.
Really liked this course. But slow people in front .
Should have used a buggy .8.5 mile walk
Great fun golf course. As with all CM courses the buggy situation spoilt all rounds, buggies staying on path’s doesn’t work, you end up walking across fairways with a handful of clubs etc. makes the rounds very slow and players with medical needs still struggle because of the amount of walking you still have to do on hilly courses.
Course was magnificent. The lack of staff to serve in the bar before & afterwards let the experience down. We had to find someone to serve a coffee before we started & left afterwards after waiting 10 minutes for a drink & got a drink elsewhere.
The greens were too quirky. Rock hard and played like crazy golf. Spoilt the enjoyment
Same as the other two courses poor course maintenance just want your money and not investing it back into the courses - Celtic Manor may have been a golf venue once but now its very much a corporate venue - focus on keeping the Hotel busy with corporate events & any money generated goes into the hotel first and what's left goes to the courses - which from our experience is very little - I would strongly suggest to any golfer or golfing party before considering Celtic Manor is to look at other courses i.g. The Grove, Woburn, Frilforth Heath, The Berkshire etc... great courses in great condition but NOT CELTIC MANOR
As with the above very poor course maintenance - One other item that was very bad was the ruling on buggies basically you were not allowed to take the buggy off the roads around the courses - which was & is totally stupid - reason's 1) you'd be walking a further distance to the ball from the buggy than you hit your golf ball ! 2) you would have to carry 3 to four clubs every time to ensure you had the club you needed and avoided slow play for the golfers behind 3) you get to see or experience the course layout and views which is the only thing going for Celtic Manor - Crazy
Considering this course was the feature course at Celtic Manor the course was in poor condition for the price you pay to play - the tee's were as dry as a bone - appeared to not have been watered and therefore the grass quality was very poor for a course of this standing - the fairways were also poorly prepared promotility meadow grass, dry as a bone and in a lot of cases your ball was on dried mud on the fairways farther than grass - could not see any sprinkler system evident or that they had been used if they were there, which consequently gave very poor fairway surfaces to hit the ball comfortably and when we come to the greens well again dry as a bone no evidence of being watered therefore even playing a wedge iron in the greens the ball would not hold - again having not been watered the greens consisted of mostly meadow grass - then we look at the bunkers well very poor, no bunker maintenance as far as we could see either very little sand basically hitting off compacted mud - very poor standards of greenkeeping course care - the only thing you could not argue with was the course layout & the surrounding views beautiful - so overall no care given to standards just going by reputation of Ryder Cup & take your money which is a shame :-(
Amazing course to experience, just be sure to take some spare balls for the rough and water
Really interesting course, play the course very blind as you can’t see where your ball is landing because of the hills. A little dangerous with no bells or any indicator to know when it’s safe to drive. Very hilly if you have any issues waking I wouldn’t recommend even in a buggy.
Lovely course, enjoyed it and look forward to coming back to play Montgomerie with with Par 3 voucher from 2010 course
Amazing course, loved it. Brilliant par 3 competition on the 10th which was good fun. Brilliant setup
Unfortunately due to heavy rainfall the days before, the course was very muddy in places. Greens however were excellent and a lovely course to play
Didn't end up playing so 4 stars all round
Great course but very difficult to play which was expected. One tip for the course along with the others considering the weather conditions can play a big part over the course of the year in Wales, was to have more ball cleaning stations. Also the buggies do not have a club cleaner box which would be very handy in wet/muddy conditions at the resort.
Great course but found the 2010 better which is expected. As per comments on 2010, there could be more ball cleaning stations given the wet/muddy conditions at times.
I never loose balls, but this course managed to claim a few. The 2010 experience is something all golfers should experience, nothing is too much trouble for the team at 2010.
Superb course. A little wet when we played and I would recommend a buggy or a least an electric cart. Very picturesque with some super holes.
Everything I said before applies to this.
took us 5 hours and 25 minutes to play this course. As before what I said about the buggies. Stuck behind 4 ball societies in buggies was just a nightmare for us as a two ball. no one let us through.
over 5 hours, course was soaking wet and muddy, no buggies on the fairways, i know you cannot control the weather but buggies not being allowed on the fairways just made it so slow, sometimes people were walking 100 yards to their ball.
Extremely saturated leading to no carry and many lost balls from plugging in the fairway. There were no ball cleaning facilities around the course which were very needed in the conditions. The requirement to keep buggies to the path, which I understand with the saturated ground, made it a less enjoyable experience
Extremely saturated leading to no carry and many lost balls from plugging in the fairway. There were no ball cleaning facilities around the course which were very needed in the conditions. The requirement to keep buggies to the path, which I understand with the saturated ground, meant that it took 6 hours to go round. Slightly spoilt a fantastic course for me.
very wet. course almost not playable
very very wet. not sure it was playable.
course very wet.
fog stopped play on and off, went home
Very wet under foot, easy to lose balls even when we hit the fairway. Photo taken at start, just another way of getting money out of you again. BUGGY £ 55.00
I was told I did not need to book a buggy, on arrival I was told none available.( £55.00) so had to walk and hire an electric trolley (£20.00). The course was water logged, some long walks between holes, very hilly 3 hours front 9 and 2 1/2 back.
Would play that course again but although it was long Roman Road was harder.
A bit boggy in places but the weather hasn't been good. A tight little course and a great challenge.
Weather was awful persistent rain which made the course very boggy and difficult so unfair to judge but some lovely holes which on a better day would have been fun to play
Fantastic day in the sunshine. Course played well and was a joy to view. Staff brilliant
Difficult in the rain but it should be indicated somewhere how hilly it is - battery trolley or buggy needed for some.
Cost of beverages in clubhouse after round was astronomical.
Soft, but not wet, conditions meant no run and so long par 4s became even longer.
Extremely wet and fairways in poor condition
See above comments on Roman Road
It was unplayable - I don't think losing your ball in the middle of the fairway because it had gone underground is acceptable! How come every other course in the area (which had exactly the same amount of rain) was either shut or was in substantially better condition? the fairways hadn't been cut either, so across a lot of the course it was impossible to tell the difference between fairway and rough. Celtic Manor seem more interested in their profits it appears - £55 for a buggy as well, really?!?!
It was really wet!
Probably the best golfing experience I’ve had the set up was first class and the staff were fantastic. Again we were lucky to be first off and it felt like we had the course to ourselves which made it extra special. A long course but it was stunning enjoyed every moment and a lovely touch at end which an engraved souvenir
We were lucky to be first off which worked out perfectly, from previous reviews we was expecting it to be a bit of slog and although the course was boggy in places it’s played pretty well especially the greens. The 1st was probably the hardest first I’ve ever played and the 12th was the stand out hole not only was it fun to play but you also got some stunning views and a little peak at the twenty ten course. Would 100% recommend a buggy
All good
All good
Very long walk between holes so would definitely recommend a buggy. Very wet and muddy when we played and cart path only so we opted to walk. Long round but nice enough course.
On arrival we were told that the course was on special measures and that we could opt to see how the first 4 holes were, and then decide if we wanted to play on, or cancel the round for a voucher. Having driven 3 hours that morning, and had a hotel included in the package, we were not going to turn around and go home to come back another day. It would have been much more helpful to have received a call the day before to let us know where we could have rescheduled our trip for a date where the course was actually playable. Appreciate the weather in early April isn’t always guaranteed for golf, but in this case, the damage with the rain was done earlier in the week so a call the day before we played would have been much appreciated as we would have rescheduled the trip.
Very hilly
Very nice and long
Was very wet, unplayed really.
Much better condition than yesterday even in the rain
Very muddy course with poor drainage Long queue at the tee - 3 hours for first 9 holes Forgot to bring the batteries for our trolleys but golf shop staff insisted on charging the sane price as renting trolleys if we borrow their batteries
The course was waterlogged and playing golf was a chore, I actually felt guilty looking back at my footsteps behind me, I thought that I was going to loose my golf shoes a few times. Not a gripe against the club but it wasnt an experience which was enjpyable.
Round took 5 and a half hours (with buggies). Again conditions were very wet and boggy. Unfortunately this ruined the experience.
We were 30 minutes delayed with our tee off and the round took 6 hours which is totally unacceptable. Surprised the course was open as the conditions were extremely wet and boggy. Real shame.
The golf course was in terrible condition and should have been closed, it was like a bog and far too wet!.. I’ve played it before and it was great but it was borderline non playable this weekend
Love the 2010 course, was again a bit wet but the drainage is Great so we enjoyed the round
Again very very wet but the sun came out. About right for 12, 15, 16 and 18 handicappers. We took buggies (which were slightly overpriced) and would recommend them, although my party is relatively fit, some of the hill climbs are tough. Would definitely play this course again.
It was very very wet but it is mid March and so no surprise. Greens however were in great condition considering. Not the hardest of courses for 12, 15, 16 and 18 handicappers but still a nice day out. Clubhouse is lovely.
Do not carry, very up and down and walks between holes
All the men absolutely loved the experience of playing on the 2010 course. Amazing course, amazing experience to see the golf lockers of players from the Ryder Cup and a lovely golf bag tag personalised with names on!
The final course of our 2 day stay, and once again a great day the weather held fair again and the facilities were great, we had a truly great experience playing theses courses and can't wait to try them again.
A once in a lifetime round of golf from start to finish, the locker rooms, the course starter the day was perfect,
A great experience from booking in with the office (great staff).to the last hole .
Very slow greens and pace of play. Circa 5 hour round. If the course was not so iconic I would’ve scored it lower.
Course was okay, but the pace of play was absolutely not acceptable and I would not recommend anyone else play because of this. It would’ve been nearly a 6 hour round (as a 2 ball) if we hadn’t of walked off from the 16th tee, where there were 4(!) groups on the par 3. Shocking. Unfortunately the resort did nothing to compensate as a GOG.
Good test at the end of the trip! Certainly worth playing all three courses when you go here!
Such a brilliant course! Delayed due to fog but were sensible to do so! When getting out there course was amazing! Small detail of getting personalised bag tag at the end was a class touch! Would love to come back and test ourselves again here!
Really enjoyable! Helped no rain for the three days we went! Quirky but good test.
Dispite the overnight rain and recent thaw the course held up well. Will definitely be back later in the year. One thing I must add, the external boot cleaning facilities on both courses need to be much better.
Dispite the rain the course held up superbly
What a course! Some unbelievable holes with scenic views. Lots of quirky holes & dog legs. As a plus 1 golfer this course was probably the most enjoyable of the 3
Great to play the Ryder cup course. Greens not as good as the Roman road but still immaculate
Great golf course. Greens were superb, fast & true. Some naughty pin positions made putting & approach shots difficult
5 and a half hours to complete the round as had a group in front of us who we’re notices and did not know the etiquette of golf. Totally ruined the day for myself and my group. Aggressive behaviour shown my this group in front of us at the halfway house who refused to let us through even though they had lost the group in front of them. Again no marshals on the course and I would not play there again. I very upsetting experience!
Again, a slow round but not as bad as Roman Road course.
5 and a half hours to get round, not good enough and no Marshall’s on the course to speed up play.
Very good course, good layout. Fast greens and good fairways considering time of year.
Luvd every second of this experience! Buggies certainly made the round slower tho so wud defo walk it next time! Facilities were superb on the 2010 + a really nice touch from them were the personal engraved bag tags for each of us after the round! 👏 We also won a free round on the Monty Course from the Par 3 9th Challenge nxt time we visit 🤩 Thanks Guys we had a blast 👍
Good test of golf for our standard (Mid HC) the greens were easily the toughest we've ever played! Don't get short sided!!!! 😳🤣
We had 2 people who required buggies due to disability but the buggies are on a gps grid run down paths, so cut out if you go on the fairway. They had to give up after 2 holes as they were nearly walking as far as the walkers. Show your blue badge and they make an exception but we did not know this. A tough interesting course with some good holes but needs more time to mature. Good fun though, but we were spoilt by the Rolls of Monmouth the previous day.
Great
A good challenge for the average golfer!
Fabulous
Nice course but very long
Long but interesting buggies definitely
Great experience considering we had originally booked for 2010 course but got bounced!
Very good
Very good
Pin positions couldn't have been harder. Sand hazards galore.....we found them all.
The greens were tough. Really hard to read pace and gradient. We had a tough round throughout our entire party but we loved the experience
Very slow round, took over 5 hours waiting on every tee from 3rd !! Course was great, fairway’s obviously a bit brown and dry due to the recent hot weather but greens were fantastic condition, very quick too.
Course was great, fairway’s obviously a bit brown and dry due to the recent hot weather but greens were fantastic condition, very quick too. Lady Marshall did have words with slow group in front to get a move on, they let us through on 10th.
Lovely course very difficult greens fast and I found Reading the greens hard. Lots of water but fair to play.
much better course to play wouldn’t need a buggy. Lovely views and fair course.
Would recommend a buggy on this course. We always walk but it even became too hilly for us especially the back 9. Played on a very hot day ball running down slopes very pretty course Lovely views. This was the least enjoyable course we played.
Bunkers were really poor - like concrete
Was second on the course and breezed around Enjoyed the course Take a buggy if you can some serious walks and hills
Loved the course , 5 hour 30 minute for a round of golf !! A lot of visiting groups of 4 balls
enjoyable. you need a buggy as quite hilly and long-ish walks green to next tee. But having to use buggy paths do mean some awkward walks to your ball
Loved it!
Slow play, superb holes on the back nine.
Another wonderful and exciting course on what was a great few days overall
I’ve been blessed to visit some great course, but the guest experience here was the best ever! The little things the staff did and the gifts you can take away from the day make it so special - like the bag tag with your name on it, your picture on the first tee and the par 3 challenge on the 10th hole. All in all the best golf experience I’ve ever had!
This course is great, but it is very hilly and there is a lot of walking between greens and the next tee. It would be good to have a recommendation for buggies on this course
Great course with some very challenging holes. Made it to the end with a few balls spare but donated a LOT to the course! Photo on the first tee was a very nice touch
Great course with some very fast and challenging greens
Same as the Roman Road course, lovely lay out and design, especially the 12th hole (par 5) as it is mostly downhill and if a tee shot is caught sweet and down the middle, it only needs a short to mid iron to get the ball on the green for an eagle chance, and the views from the 12th green are second-to-none as you can see most of the 2010 course so makes it even more special, and the 12th hole on the Montgomery Course is one of the best holes I have ever played.
Lovely golf course and the pins were put in difficult positions on the greens as they were so undulating and hard to read so would end up in a few 3putts!
Absolutely lovely golf course and was a privilege to play it as it has so much heritage and respect from everyone that knows the game of golf and was an honour to play the 2010 course The greens were a little slower than anticipated, but this would not put a bad mark against it.
Jewel in your crown! Treated amazingly and the facilities are phenomenal
Whilst we understand the reason for buggies staying on the cart path as a result of a tragic accident it makes this course in particular extremely hard work. There are long distances between some holes and the ball can be a long way fromthe path. This must be addressed before we are able to book this trip again.
Very long course with long walks between holes. Used a buggy but have to keep on path and always seemed to be miles away from buggy path. Never played a shot on level ground. Greens fast and course in very good condition. I personally did not enjoy the course but lower handicap players might enjoy it.
We were meant to play this course but YGT had cancelled our rounds according to celtic manor pro shop. Our original t times were 0930 on booking confirmation but we got told we couldn’t play until 1500 as no spaces available. A very helpful pro at the clubhouse managed to get us out between a members competition at 12 on the Romain course which we shouldn’t have been playing but was happy to get out at all. I shall never book another trip with YGT again weekend was a disaster to be honest !!!
Absolute joke, got to twenty ten course and they said your t times have been cancelled by YGT. Paid £3300 for ten players and then get told all cancelled, luckily they managed to fit us in last 3 groups.
After playing the 2010 first, the monty wasn’t as picturesque until you got on the back nine But the 12th hole is something else, a golfers dream!!! Some fantastic holes and scenery. Great experience
A truly fabulous golf course that everyone would enjoy to play at Remarkable place
Some very nice holes on this course that present a real challenge. Quite a hilly course that presents additional challenges to the length of some holes.
Good fun course in great condition. Personally I preferred this to the Montgomery.
An easier course than the Montgomerie for the hard of walking. The fairways were not as wide so with a buggy you should be ok. The course itself was great.
Even with a Buggy, you have to stay on the buggy path, not on the fairways EVER! So the course was difficult to get from on side to the other the fairways were so wide. Lots of hillsides to deal with too. This course is Not for you if your walking is limited even with a Buggy.
Great course . Very challenging definitely requires a buggy as long distances uphill at times between greens and tees
Excellent course . Very long walk would highly recommend a buggy even at £40
An OK course, but some quirky holes which made for course knowledge to get the ball direction right. Quite hilly, so buggy would be handy, but not for ‘cart path only’, so a tiring walk, especially on a warm day.
Played this course last year and the fairways were in better condition than this year. One 4 ball of our group of 8, hired buggies. ONLY when we arrived at the starters hut (about 250 yards from the check in) did we find it was cart path only.😡. It was too late to change to a trolley and we ended up walking further than those with trolleys. After enquiring later, we were told that all 3 courses at this venue are cart path only ALL YEAR. For this reason, we would NEVER revisit this venue.
Don’t even think about walking this …. Especially if it’s the last round of your tour ! Interesting course but a bit too up n down for me personally.. greens were excellent , v tricky
Good to experience this course but we all found it very tough
Our favourite course at CM with some spectacular views.. Some tricky holes requiring good course management. Take a buggy as very hilly. If you can only play one course, this is the one, IMO.
We enjoyed this course, though nothing particularly memorable.
Superb course loved by all my group.. again tip top condition very helpful staff on all three courses can't wait to get back there..
Again superb course immaculate the only thing on this course was you felt rushed as its very busy but loved it nevertheless
Wow.. for my group of 12 everyone had a superb time tough course but immaculate can't wait to play there again
Excellent coarse a real golfing challenge, so much fun
Nice pretty coarse some lovely views
Greens Well undulating and quick
A ruined Christmas present for me, a good day for him! Why? I had to have a buggy but these have to stay on the paths. Therefore I was having to walk far more than normal, up and down slopes, across and back on fairways. Thebiggurs were petrol and hard to start. At one point I started going backwards and came very close to anasty accident. When I discussed this adter the rou8, I was told that if I had a medical certificate I could have been given a red flag and driven anywhere. I had one in my golfbag!! A lack of information beforehand spoilt my day. We had been looking forward to playing the course all through Covid. Jack, you arranged everything we asked for, but a disappointing finale for me. The hotel, outstanding. 2010....not again.
Very testing, looked easy but very deceptive.
Exhausting 🥵🥵🥵
As we were new to this course, it would have been good to be informed before the round of the hilly walk. If we had known this, we would have hired buggies. A small point on what was a good day.
Quality from start to finish. For a club of its standard it was also refreshingly friendly, relaxed and not stuffy at all.
This course is tough walk and thats just from hole to hole, some holes have no signage to next tee, bar the cart paths some routes are just there from people walking through and not fit for electric trolleys. This course you benefit from a golf cart to get from hole to hole but being path only they end up slowing the speed of play. Yes it’s has a paid range but again you have no access for a trolly if your already set up.
Course condition again better than the twenty10…the only downside was a lack of stock in the halfway house.
Better greens than the twenty10. Hilly is an understatement, especially as there weee no electric trolleys or buggy’s left, so had to walk with a manual trolley…got the step count up, but am glad I’m fairly fit!
There were lots of pitch marks on the greens, but that’s down to the people using the course and not the greenstaff, but fairways were good and halfway house well stocked
Having played the Montgomery course the previous day, this was a big improvement, nice course with some really nice holes.
To be honest the course wasn’t as good as I expected, from this resort, first 4 holes were blind dog legs, fairways were far from good. Hard mud
Decided to push trolley rather than buggie. Disappointed that gps not picking up correctly and turned out that the front and back 9 wrong way round on app etc. poor signage for trolleys especially on one hole( can’t remember no) because what looked like a walk path was actually not. Had to walk back up a massive hill to start again. Condition of course excellent especially greens slopes etc. Some long distances from green to tees especially 9th to 10th but it is what it is. Buggie recommended but I don’t do buggies as I think it spoils the round.
Best round of my life, greens were slower than expected but course generally ok. Not as difficult as I was expecting although longer in yards than my usual course
Overall the best golf course
Changing 10 to 1 did not work sorry
Just the greens sorry
Tough course, lots of blind tee shots, good bunkering. I’d say easiest greens to putt on out of the three. The amen corner of 11, 12 & 13 are spectacular! Make sure your trolley battery is fully charged as mine ran out! Great course.
Great course, comes alive on the back nine. Loved the holes with the water. Greens weren’t great but had just been top dressed that day. I imagine in a few weeks they will be perfect.
Great course, greens were fast for time of year.
When we arrived, the pro shop didn’t have our group down for any tee let alone our tees we had booked, this happened on the 2010 cour the previous day. We had to take an earlier tee which meant we were all rushing our breakfast and know warm up before the start, again didn’t go down well with the group.
When we arrived, the pro shop didn’t have our group down for any tee let alone our tees we had booked, this happened on the following day on Roman road as well. The did how ever give us an alternative tee half way through the day which didn’t go down well with the group, however the did move this around and we got our round going. But not a good start to the trip. Celtic Manor was blaming YGT for the mess up but I don’t know who was at fault.
The Monty was enjoyable and in better condition.
Our favourite course but in poor overall condition
no ball washers, greens not good at best.
The course was made more difficult due to the wi da and snow fluoride but did not detract from the expecrience. One a free round in the 10th hole so will be going again
World class and long! 😂
Great course, the 12th is an amazing hole. Hilly so get a buggy if you’re not fit!
It was a great experience for our group playing this course, although, just like the hotel, we had no tee time booking and at one stage we were unsure if we were going to be able to play this course. Full credit to Celtic manor for sorting this for us efficiently and couldn’t fault the staff throughout the trip.

Loved everything about it
We've played the Monty before and really liked it. Found it dryer than Roman Roads, usually - but not this time! Sadly, it was so wet that we had to throw in the towel after 4 holes. We'd lost 3 balls by then - all on the fairways! Plugged and disappeared. Greens, by contrast, were excellent. Really first class, especially considering the weather.p the previous few days. Many thanks to Celtic Manor for the inclement weather scheme. We'll be back.
Although wet, I loved the course and will be going back.
Great course loved it. Very wet and muddy due to the recent weather. However, I was happy to play.
Very wet
Unplayable
A lot of wet fairways as the day before on the 2010. A fantastic golf course and great greens!
Our main complaint other than the condition of the courses was that the only facility that was open for breakfast was the "greenside grill" as the clubouse didn't open until 11. We had to stand around in the freezing cold to get our bacon baps. Very disappointing and shows very little consideration for the fee paying visitor. We wanted to wrap our visit up in the 2010 clubhouse and were directed to the spike bar but this - like the pro shop, was closed. No repeat visit planned - they are keeping the course open at any cost.
If this was a members club this would have been closed. It was impossible to access some of the tees without getting covered in mud and our 4 ball lost 18 balls in the fairways. Due to the ground conditions the fairways had not been cut and some areas of the tees and greens had standing water. Wales in winter - what can you do?
Greens & tees were uneven. The fairways were wet underfoot. No ball run. It often plugged & was occasionally lost. Difficult to get a stance on occasions. Risk of slipping over. Superior design over Roman Road course. The terrain dictates its an undulating course. Long distances between greens & tees over undulating ground. A £40 buggy is a must. They have designated paths. No fairway usage. Due to the soil type & conditions, playing it in the winter is not ideal. Due to uncleared trees on the course from the recent storms, buggies were not allowed on the back nine. I only played the Monty front nine & the other nine holes on the Roman Road course. Not ideal but I wasn’t prepared to walk it in light of the layout & conditions. Trousers were caked in mud. I would not dissuade anyone from playing the Monty course but the conditions would have to be right to make it enjoyable. Personally, I will not be returning to Celtic Manor as I was a little underwhelmed by the two courses & conditions. Links winter golf for me next time. The Princes package is hard to beat for me.
Greens were in poor condition. Patchy & uneven. The fairways were wet underfoot. Difficult to get a stance on occasions. Risk of slipping over. Bland layout. Uninspiring. Not marshalled. 5 hours plus round. Unacceptable. The terrain dictates its an undulating course. Conditions made it tiring. I would not recommend playing the course. Especially not in the winter months. Underwhelmed.
Highlight of the weekend, great course great clubhouse, awesome gesture of the engraved bag tag. Fairways very boggy.
Great course but very voggy, expected at this time of year.
Front 9 felt very hilly with the soft course conditions and was a difficult walk. Because it was so hilly the run off areas were very boggy. Greens were in perfect condition and couldn’t ask for more. Back 9 is a very fair test with some picturesque holes.
Course condition wasn’t perfect and was a little boggy in places but for the time of year and the rain we’ve had it was fantastic.
Obviously we were aware that playing in January runs some risks but the course was struggling. Water logged. Boggy in parts. Running water on two fairways. Shame because there were some great views and good facilities.
Course was in good condition considering the rain, greens were fair and all staff excellent. Club house is a bit pricey for me, over £5 for a coffee seams a little too much.
Considering the fact that it was in December and the course was a little wet it was a real delight to play
Excellent
Really enjoyable , highly recommend.
Again it was very very muddy and the greens were bobbly! If we came again it would have to be in the spring/summer when the course is dry.
The course was very very muddy and the greens were very rough. The couple we were with were in a buggy and it was a long walk from the buggy path across the course. If we came again it would have to be in the spring summer when it is dry - coming in the autumn/winter is not to be recommended
Pace was slow, waited to play most shots. Weather was awful as well after 5 holes in so we gave up after 9 holes.
Fantastic day, not only lucky with the weather (that always helps) but a group booking in front had cancelled so we felt like we had the course to ourselves!! A joy to play and experience.
Tough course with long holes if you're not a big hitter. Very well kept and some great feature holes.
A good challenge for all standards and very well kept
Nice course but waterlogged. Bunkers a mess. Very few distance markers, no indication as to pin positions. Overall disappointed. Whilst appreciating the weather had been very wet and the water logged course unavoidable, we expected better course management. Wouldn’t return.
Very long course. Long distances between holes. Had a buggy but still 5 hours. Had to stay on the buggy path so finding your ball, walking to it, having the right club was difficult and spoilt the game. No distance markers and no different coloured flags to indicate pin position. Not any guidance as to pin positions. Disappointing.
Would say the Montgomerie Course is much harder than the Roman Road Course. Narrow fairways, blind shots.. it is only 5700 yards but feels much longer playing up some of those hills. Would suggest a buggy for this course even if they are cart path only! Greens in great shape. Some of the tee boxes could do with work. Real test for the average golfer.
5900 yards or so. More open than the Montgomerie Course. Greens in good shape and quick Tee boxes above average. Being ryder cup weekend the course was very busy indeed. Our round wasn't far off 5 hours. Buggies at £38 didn't seem great value, especially having to keep them on the cart path the entire round.
We were promised they’d be plenty of buggies at the venue by YGT but half of our group were forced to walk. Not an easy walk either! Only disappointment of the holiday really. Also they need to change the sausages and bacon on the breakfast buffet as they were both substandard. Dinner in The Rib Restaurant was very good though.
The last days golf on this testing course with some fantastic views and drop down greens to be had this is a great course to finish the trip off.
A good days golf in the sun spoilt a little by the state of the greens, people clearly not using a pitch repairer and having to repair as we went along took time and effort while trying to make difficult putts.
A good warm up course the Roman Road, play was about right with very few in front of us on this round.
Great course, very difficult. The views on the way round are epic. Note: do not try to walk this one lol
Great course, different to the 2010. Decided not to use our ordered buggies on the day. However they had ran out of electric trolleys, so had to use a pull trolley. A very long but great walk
Fantastic course, fantastic views and a fantastic day
Lots of features and blind shots. Great little course and would definitely play it again. Definitely get a buggy
Nice course but found the holes to be all very similar and not many features other than water. Probably would not play it again
Good course
Brilliant
Good course great views take a buggy
The front 9 is not great, can’t see any tee shots, the back 9 is definitely worth the money!
The course was fantastic, greens were perfect. Only issue was we had one hole closed on the 11th due to maintenance which was very disappointing. The club house has no facilities to have a beer after the round.
Very very very slow.
This coarse is very hilly so I would recommend getting a buggy we was unlucky because there was a corporate day so all the buggies was hired out also be careful walking down the 9th fairway as range balls come flying over your head .
We certainly saved the best for last. What a terrific golf course and in wonderful condition. It was fair, picturesque and a great experience. The staff were wonderful. It was a great touch to get the bag tag and the photographer at the first tee did a great job. We were pleased to buy the souvenir wallet and photos at the end. One thing did puzzle us. We went into an empty restaurant upstairs in the Club House and were refused a table because we had not reserved. How can they afford to turn away customers in that way? I'd be very annoyed if it were my business.
We had a great experience on the Roman Road. It was a good layout and the pace of play was fine. The course was challenging but fair and was in excellent condition throughout. Would definitely play again.
The course layout was extremely disappointing. There are too many totally blind tee shots and quirky/crazy holes. When playing a course for the first time it does not help when you haven't a clue where you are going. It would have been better in the original layout i.e. the 10th (as now) being the 1st. This would allow you to ease into the round rather than starting with an extremely challenging tee shot on a crazy hole. We could not think why the change would have been made. In truth, we did not believe that the terrain was suited to having a golf course. That there was one was a bit of a miracle of engineering. Added to that the round was painfully slow. Indeed, the 4 ball behind us gave up after the 9th because of the pace of play. I would not play this course again.
The 2010 was in fantastic condition, we all thought it was the best course we have played, the only fault was in the clubhouse we had to download an app to buy a drink even though there was no one in the bar, we didn’t bother doing that so we went back to coldra court and had a beer. Apart from that it was a great day
Course was good but it was quite hilly
Excellent course The only downside was that buggies had to stay on the paths which meant as much walking when playing the holes as using a trolley or carrying clubs. However there were quite a few holes where there was quite a distance from green to next tee where buggies were an advantage
Excellent course The only downside was that buggies were confined to the paths which meant probably more walking than actually using a trolley or carrying the clubs
The quality of the course is second to none, the overall experience was fantastic. However, it was soured by construction work being undertaken on the course (9th hole), meaning we didn't get to play the full course. As you can imagine, the was very disappointing for the group as a whole. We couldn't understand ongoing construction work during peak season and we were only informed 20 minutes before our tee time, which again was displeasing. To say this ruined the trip would be a little strong, but it certainly tarnished the experience.
Wonderful layout
Just a shame that one of the holes was undergoing maintenance and reduced from a par 5 to a par 3 (and not informed until you were at the 1st tee box so a little late to decide whether you wanted to play or not) No reduction in price either! That said, the rest of the course was in great condition. Just a shame most people can't be bothered to put their beer bottles in the bin rather than chuck them in the rough or repair their divet marks. Complete disrespect for the course. The bins were the round things on each tee box!!
Course was in great condition but pace of play was ridiculous- 6 hours for a round and no Marshall in attendance. Two groups in front were more interested in drinking, talking and taking selfies. They needed chivvying along.
You definitely need a buggy but was a great challenge.
Really enjoyed the whole experience
What a course! Brilliant experience. So much water , this course is a real test but so enjoyable at the same time . I’ll be back !
Really good course, unfortunately the service in the clubhouse was again terrible and the prices was shocking, they were more interested in the diners, than a few golfers who want a beer after their round
The course was great as you would expect, but the trouble in ordering food and drinks in the restaurant was absolutely terrible, having to download an app, register a bank card, log into the wifi literally took 20 mins to do because of no phone signal,2 staff were standing behind the bar and could of taken orders, and the prices were extortionate £4.40 for a coffee, cheese sandwich and a few chips was £16,they closed the halfway hut before all of our group had gone through, this should not happen, its put us off returning
This course is the worst of the three, the walks between greens and next tee boxes are too long, and the change of first tee is terrible
Raining hard first nine but ok second, can’t change the weather, they have changed the course around, preferred it the other way, need more signs by the now ninth as our first group went down the 10th on the Roman road, got through three holes until we got hold of them.
Again good because of Covid-19 had to walk to the course, last time we were ferried down, bar app was difficult and long to get on so didn’t use it
With a high h'cap clearly the course would be hard but, we were there for fun not a good score. I have to commend the starter and the rest of the management they were great. Some additional signs would be useful especially one showing where the 15th T is from the 14th green. All in all a great day out.
Again unbelievable course and amazing views from the 12th green over looking the 2010 course
Unbelievable course. Very much enjoyed it and we got lucky with the weather
Sloping greens not always easy to read.
Interesting course with relative amount of difficulty.
Just a fabulous course, with the hardest greens to read l have came across! Well worth playing.
If you play this course do not use a push trolley! I have never played a course with so many steep hills! But outstanding golf course and great cardio workout
Wow. What an experience All staff were great and pitched there talks just right Photos were a must Loved it
Bit hilly if your carrying Buggy would be something to consider next time
A course you would benefit from playing regularly. Quite a few blind shots. 1st tee shot a bit uninspiring but some nice holes. Again the rough was a bit unkempt. Quite hilly in places. Buggies good from green to next tee but of no use on the actual course.
Before the round you are given a pyramid of balls to hit. Lovely course especially in the valley around the lakes. Took 5 1/2 hours to get round. Wouldn't recommend a buggy as they have to stick to the paths. They actually slowed the pace of play as people on them found themselves 100 yards away from their ball and not knowing which club they would need.Enjoyed it though.
Tees fairways and greens all well kept. Beyond the fairways the rough was a bit unmanaged.
Having a buggy is a waste of time as you have to stick to the paths and you end up going back and forth to your ball. Most courses allow buggies on in the summer. Very busy.
I regretted walking the course! Should have had a buggy!
Fun coarse
Fantastic course u have to be on your game
Please read comments re buggies in first course played.
Course was difficult but a pleasure to (TRY AND) play. The only real downside was the strict interpretation of the rule for keeping to buggy paths with its' obvious effects on a very hot day. Surely with fairways so hard, some leeway, even just the 90 degree rule should be applied. This did actually spoil the round.
What a beautiful course. Good but fair challenge off the yellows. Greens really quick and some stunning views, would recommend a buggy as long distance between greens and tees.
Fantastic course, tough walking and really tricky greens that take some getting used to, but very rewarding when you do. Weather was bad but still did 18, testimony to the challenge of the course.
I enjoyed the experience and would love to return again. When we finished our round of golf we were presented with a bag tag with our initials, which I thought was a very good touch/end to a fantastic weekend.
Good round of golf. Enjoyed the course as it challenged me.
Brilliant
The Montgomerie is an interesting course with some very challenging holes.
The twenty ten course was very difficult with a strong wind.
First time we have played the Roman Road, really enjoyed the course, greens are fastest here. This was our favourite of the three.
The Roman Road course is a beautiful one located in the Welsh hills. We only got to play the front 9 due to the started not being able to find room for us in a bust schedule to be able to out and back in time for the football on the evening. Greens were immaculate, even in the soggy weather. The clubhouse is classy and welcoming, the staff there were great too. We are mostly high handicapped golfers, but got around the front 9 in just under 3 hours. It was a little slow...but the tee times were full and this wasnt a suprise on a Saturday afternoon.
What a course this must be on all golfers bucket list staff excellent organisation of n the day was superb free balls for driving range Photo taken at the start of our group of 8 and a nice metal twenty ten bag tag given after round as a memento The thing is alcohol was very expensive on site and club houses but you would expect that when going to places like this
Great course great condition
Great course great condition but would recommend a biggie for this course
Very difficult long hitters course worth playing but not to many times it will destroy your game
Enjoyable
Nice views from the course
A much nicer course, very walkable, enjoyable day on the Roman road
No buggies on fairways ruined it for me, not proper golf, to far between some tees so not good to walk.
We all enjoyed the course more than anticipated. While not easy even the high handicappers got round without too many pic ups.
My second time playing this course, does not get easier !!, great fun, wonderful challenging greens and course, once again the Covid factor interfered with the true experience on arrival and check in at this great venue, not the fault of anyone at the 2010 venue. Finally a mention to thank Benjamin from golf travel for all his organising and help when making my booking. Many Thanks Paul
Great opener if you are going to play the other two courses, great course, only disappointment was the very slow play from two four balls in front of our 3 ball, took far too long to complete the 18 holes and never much fun with stop start golf. Course was in great condition.
Didn't even get to play told it was really bad gave us a second round on the 2010 but walked after 9 holes not playable
Like a bog not as bad but when your ball is plugging in fairways and u cant find them not very enjoyable the hole group lost about 20 balls plugged in the fairway
Like a big should never been played
A truly amazing course, the best I have ever played and very scenic. The third hole was the most beautiful I have ever played and the longest at 608 yards. Very hilly and would recommend a buggy around here.
The course was wet underfoot due to the extensive rainfall, however this could not be helped and tricky at times, good course.
The course was so wet it was un playable and should of been closed. Drives straight down the middle Were either plugged or completely buried resulting in lost balls! Sinking above your laces walking across the fairway getting wet socks not just in the odd boggy spot but the whole course, you couldn't even swing on the fairways due to slipping and short pitch shots left you with a face full of splattered mud! I've never experienced anything so bad we never played golf we trapped around in the mud looking for golf balls this course is a no go for winter a real shame because what we hoped would be a great experience despite knowing it might of been abit soft in winter conditions nothing could prepare you for conditions so bad, I'd like to say I'd go back in summer but the mental scars of that experience I think will stop me.
Most scenic course I have ever played with breathtaking holes and views!
Incredibly wet so a lot of the fairway areas were waterlogged. Absolutely breathtaking course though.
Heavy rain on the day forced us to quit early as it was becoming waterlogged.
As for the Montgomerie, course played very long but was a great challenge and was in good condition although very wet and would have unplayable without pick and place. Layout was stunning and greens a delight.
Due to the very wet conditions the course played very long, which made It very tiring. Although we had a buggy the paths for these always seemed to be the wrong side of the fairway from where most people played their shots. Greens were very good considering the weather.
Wonderful course, tricky and testing but overall excellent
Very wet under foot, we all lost balls on the fairway due to conditions, enjoyed the course though and look forward to playing it again in the summer months
The course was saturated and it made the game very muddy and also caused a slow round. But the course was wonderful and would love to play it again in a dryer month
Very wet greens flooded for last 5 holes
The course is very hilly and we did not use a buggy but should have done. The fairways were all long grass as the weather had affected cutting. It is a good course but the slower than average timing was mainly due to buggy players having to keep to the tarmac paths and hence back and forth to the buggy.
The course was brilliant. It is very playable even for us lower handicap players as long as you stay on the faiways, the difficulty is the length of the course and when you hit the water hazards or deep bunkers.
Once again the weather intervened and although we were offered vouchers to return at a more clement time we played, got wet and had a very jolly time. It is a long course and I would certainly recommend a buggy for the less doughty golfers. Staff were exemplary in their help and guidance.
Considering the biblical amount of rain that had fallen in the preceding week we were dubious as to the efficacy of actually playing. We did. It was VERY wet but hugely enjoyable. Oh and we managed to discard our wet weather gear for 12 of the holes.
Fabulous experience right on the front door, being shown to the locker room where you see all the greats lockers from 2010 Ryder cup, Tiger& Rory to name a few. Fantastic course, more sand than on most beaches and water to go with it. We did all three courses and I must say hats off to Celtic Manor as the whole three day were fabulous, military precision on organisation and very friendly and helpful staff. Also not forgetting Your Golf Travel, thank you Sam for getting us a great deal
Personally as a high handicap player this was a lot tougher than the Roman as tighter course with more hazards. Again course and greens immaculate. Were advised to use buggies as there is quite a hike between some holes. We walked as buggies on paths only and although tiring well worth the walk. Some stunning holes and scenery looking down on the 2010 course is fabulous.
Immaculate course, greens exceptional. More forgiving than the other two courses which is a great starter if you are doing all three. My recommendation is to walk the course if you can as buggies are strictly on paths and scenery is fab.
Even though this course is probably third choice for most people, as 2010 and roman road are the more popular of the 3, they certainly dont neglect this course. Its awesome. The really good challenge for any golfer Playing the 3rd hole is spectacular amongst others) Only criticism about the course is as they are trying to squeeze that many people through, they join up 2 balls with each other to make a 4 ball. The issues i had with that, was different people have a different standard of golf (handicaps) me (8) and my friend (3), were not pros by any means but being put with 2 people us can barely hit the ball really frustrated us as it slowed are game massively and the round wasn't as enjoyable Would recomend going as a 3 ball to save yourself the bother of pairing up
When you play the course you can see why professional's can play to a high standard of golf There's nothing out of place, tee boxes, fairways and greens are in pristine condition You are rewarded for good shots and can be punished for bad shots
Impossible without a buggy and really annoying you have to leave buggy on track you never have the right club and have to make several trips down difficult terrain
Poor signage
Made a lot harder when playing on 2 hours sleep with a stinking hangover. The 4 of us that played were all really surprised with this course. Not that we thought it would be bad but we didn’t think it would be as good as the Twenty Ten. We were wrong. Callum at YGT recommended this one for us and what a brilliant recommendation it was. Very happy with everything about the trip. We will definitely be booking with Callum again soon!
The course was fantastic. Some of the greens had been punched but they still rolled true. Course was stunning with some of the best holes I’ve ever played
This ,in my opinion. Is this is the easiest course of the 3. Again good fairways , quite wide , a lot of bunkers, greens are quick, with different levels.
Quite challenging hole with lots of bunkers and greens are quick.
Quite a few hills and some long walks between the green and the next hole. If you have walking difficulties a buggy is advisable but that has a drawback, no buggies allowed on the fairways . This can mean quite a walk across the fairway to get to your ball even if the course in good condition. When your paying £40 for a buggy and may have health issues, hence the buggy, I thought this was a bit much.
See description for Montgomerie course
Cart Path only at all times. No need as course was very dry and 90 degree rule would have been helpful as my wife has difficulty walking
By this time I had had enough disappointments so I didn't really care.
I arrived at the golf shop to pick up my putter as promised by Debra that it would be there but guess what..... it wasn't, they knew nothing about it. It was a good job I took along the email from Debra, they were surprised to see it. We wanted to present the putter before we went out but that never happened!! I did get it after the round but it was another cock-up!! This made me angry again before I went out so you spoilt my whole experience of the 2010 course. Cheers!!
Got there at 1.20 ready for our 2pm tee time which had been confirmed well beforehand by yourselves. We were met by the golf crew saying where had we been your tee time is at 1pm, I argued that it wasn't etc. They rushed us all out to the tee, we had no time to look around or practice and we all teed off being rushed. You hadn't updated the course that our tee time was at 2pm so another cock-up by yourselves.
The Roman Road course is a lovely rolling landscape and more suited to the mid to high handicapper. The course was in top condition and the marshals were exceedingly helpful. All in all four hours of genuinely fine golf.
The Montgomery is not for the faint-hearted! It is challenging and long! It was in excellent condition and the greens were tricky! It is definitely a buggy course purely because of the gaps between tees. I cannot wait to tackle it once again - in a buggy!
Part of the overall wonderful experience of three days golf (obviously 2010 was the jewel). This course had a bit of everything and more like a home course. Almost impossible to lose a ball and easier to play to handicap. So our final day made us feel like decent golfers again - fter concerns about our abilities after 2010!!!
Magnificent course - and the views!!!. Quality layout and top greens. Staff very helpful, courteous and professional. Made our group of eight feel special. Watched over by a slowly circling white bellied sea eagle half way round for bout an hour. Don't know who arranged that - but thanks from us all
A great start to our three courses in three days - a buggy was a must though!
My partner & I would describe ourselves as midrange handicappers, 18 & 20, & found the course long & challenging, although thoroughly enjoyable. The scenery is stunning & the variety of holes exceptional, although it is very hilly & I would suggest a buggy is an essential for all but the fittest. We had booked a two-ball but were paired up with another pair, nice enough lads, but they had a buggy so did spend a lot of time waiting for us at the tee, there is quite a long walk from green to tee on a fair number of the holes.

Our bags were taken from the 2010 up to the Montgomery but nobody told us where they where as that nearly missing our tee time
greens we’re terrible pitchmarks everywhere otherwise course was good
Loved it
Brilliant experience
Most enjoyable course, with some great holes to remember and in good condition.
Overall excellent experience although weather was atrocious. Great experience and staff made the day memorable. Lovely touch at end of the round to be given a bag tag with initials engraved onto back.
Course conditions were poor. Fairways and greens below expectations.
Really happy we chose to play the montgomerie, greens not great they have a serious issue with work infestation on a few of the holes but still enjoyable. Buggies are a must!!!
A bit disappointed with the condition of the greens, expected better but played on worse and it didn't ruin out golf. Super course just a shame we played it 30mph winds.
Delay through fog. Chaos! Eventually teed off as a two ball in a buggy ( cost £38 ) amongst 3 & 4 balls. People were impatient to the extent a ball came over our heads on a dog leg and was so close to be dangerous. Buggies were only allowed on cart track making it slow. Many ‘ hackers’ were evident. Altogether not a happy experience.
Inadequate signage & long walks between holes. Greens were disappointing with recent aeration & sand making the greens a lottery for putting. We were not told. Put with 2 delightful young men who were erratic, had no official h/c, & no knowledge of the new rules of golf. Play was extremely slow.
Fantastic layout really enjoyed it
A real test of golf
An ok course, green weren't great, sandy, bobbly etc. you need to play it before the 2010 as comparing the 2 doesn't do this course justice - the back tees of the 1st need bringing back.
I love this course, the lay out is incredible and would love the opportunity to play off the Ryder Cup tees! The greens however were poor, lots of unrepaired pitch marks, what looked like disease, bobbles etc, also most of the bunkers were un raked! Not the fault of the staff but rather than cleaning clubs and timing you (we were 8 mins behind after 9 probably because of the amount of bunker raking and pitch mark repairing we did) get these ignorant morons off the golf course!
Need your walking boots with this course, a tough hilly course, very challenging, but fair. Advice is to either play last on your trip, or hire a buggy. Very scenic due to location, and some great holes.
One of the hardest and best courses I've ever played. A challenge from first tee shot to last putt. Course in fantastic condition considering we played in February. Staff and facilities fantastic as usual, get treated like a pro for the day, from concierge service to first tee, free range balls, club and shoe cleaning after the round, bag tag, and own private locker. Fantastic clubhouse and pro shop available, and also a nice little halfway hut for that well earned drink. A must play for all golfers.
Played the Roman Road first, course changed and in my opinion slightly ruined due to an overflow car park, which has altered the layout. But still a decent challenge, and clubhouse always up to a high standard.
Blobbed the first 2holes my fault, the wind didn’t help .its a bit hilly so if you struggle walking then book a buggy, other than that its a great course
I have to say the weather was awful so was difficult to rate as water everywhere on the fairways and the greens, but can imagine without the bad weather it would have been fantastic.the staff were excellent and made you feel like you were a king.to top that they offered us vouchers to be able to play again as we agreed to finish on the 10th green, fantastic set up
A dream come true. Absolutely amazing.
It was amazing to play such a course.
Amazing course. Staff were great, very attentive. Would come back again
Loved every minute of being out there, a beautiful course, lovely club house, service from staff was exceptional. 18th hole, the signature hole didn't disappoint!
Felt like as many people as possible was crammed on to this course. Every shot we had to wait for the 4 ball in front. Course wasn't great on the eye, quite average.
May want a buggy as some steep hills, but great course 👍
Only downside was the ground was a bit soggy of the fairways, but in great condition for time of year
Fantastic experience and very well looked after. Awesome
Just short of 3 hours to complete 9 Holes. The Marshall didn’t hurry up slow play to the groups in front at all and we ended waiting longer and longer to tee off. We complained and had nothing until the other 2 gents who were paired up with us managed to complete 1 more hole in 45 mins so as they were offered a free round we eventually had to rebook but on another course not the one we paid for. We also booked becausea free buggy was offered and when we arrived to check in for the golf the buggy wasn’t added( I don’t normally mind but when away we like to have a buggy)
Only criticism was the hollow tining of the greens, a necessary task but unfortunately done on the day we played. Overall had minimum effect on the putting, but a little disappointing to find the greens undergoing maintenance.
November and tge course was in excellent condition. Got lucky with the weather 😁
Brilliant
Wrong tee time booked for us which meant we had to rush but otherwise fantastic
Extremely hilly with fast greens lots of bunkers and difficult pin positions could be set up easer for a resort definitely need a buggy at £38 !
Greens very fast with pins in ridiculous positions
A good and challenging course, again with stunning views.
Loved this course beautiful views
Some fairways needed attention, however overall very good
Course in good condition considering it was September. Bags were misplaced for 24 hours when being moved around by staff. This bit was rushed and not explained well.
