Greetham Valley's golf complex may have only come into being in 1990, but it is now an impressive venue, boasting two 18-hole courses, and also a 9-hole academy course which is ideal for beginners.
The Lakes Course is the signature championship course at Greetham Valley, and is very much a ‘risk/reward' proposition. The fairways are wide, which means long hitters can take advantage with the driver, but extremely wayward tee shots will be welcomed by water hazards and giant sand traps. The par-3s are a feature of the Lakes Course, as the abundant water provides a stern test.
The Valley Course may be somewhat shorter than the Lakes, but it is no less entertaining, as it is home to a number of truly memorable holes. Expanses of water and sand will no doubt be hazardous, while the higher points on the golf course afford outstanding views over Rutland's superb countryside. Highlights are the three-tiered 16th green, and the signature 17th, where accuracy is essential to avoid the thick woodland on the left, the babbling brook which skirts the right side of the fairway, and the lake which guards the front of the putting surface.
Greetham Valley's complex also boasts the Academy Course, which is the perfect practice ground for the experienced golfer to sharpen that all-important short game, and also allows beginners the chance to cut their teeth on the links for the very first time.
The contemporary style of Greetham Valley's hotel offers guests extremely comfortable accommodation, at the top end of the 3-star bracket.
The 35 bedrooms are spacious, and many afford outstanding views across the golf courses, the valley and the lakes. All units are en-suite, and have thoughtful features like golf bag storage, catering perfectly for those travelling on a golf break.
The superb accommodation is complemented by outstanding conference and banqueting facilities, as well as the guaranteed attentive service, making Greetham Valley a great all-round package.
For the ultimate in relaxation, Greetham Valley's leisure facilities include specialist treatment rooms, and an established hair and beauty salon. The more adventurous will appreciate the on-site mud buggies, off-road driving, quad bike trekking, fishing and archery, and the nearby watersports, horse riding and more.
