This quintessential English championship golf course will test your driving ability as well as your accuracy. Twisting through 440 acres of undulating terrain, the 7,088-yard, par 72 course meanders over ridges, through valleys, and is studded with ancient woodland, lakes, streams, and strategically placed bunkers, while also being surrounded by amazing views of the Cotswolds.
The Bainbridge Course was redesigned in 2009 by Mackenzie and Ebert, the architects behind recent changes at several well-known Open Championship venues including Turnberry, Royal St. Georges and Royal Portrush. Heythrop Park has also been host to several high-profile professional tournaments, including the English trophy on the European Challenge tour.
The challenging course provides a selection of stand-out holes. The 314 yard, par-4 6th, Archer Bridge, where the green nestles beside a fishing pond, the spectacular par-5 11th, South Avenue, which heads downhill towards the old Skating Lake before turning sharply to the left to a small green that sits between the water and the woodland, and the 528 yard, par-5 14th, The Glyne, which is similar to Augusta’s 13th hole in as much as it sweeps from right to left around trees to a low-lying green situated close to an 18th century stone bridge.
Last, but by no means least, is the par 5 18th, Grand Avenue. This closing hole has a strong claim to be regarded as the straightest hole in golf. Measuring close to 600 yards, it seems even longer still as the view is elongated by the majestic Heythrop Park Manor House which provides a stunning backdrop situated some 100 yards behind the final green.

Reception for both hotel and golf was welcoming and informative. The hotel is large and sprawling so we were glad to be housed in the manor building. The room was a good size with a large shower room. Complimentary toiletries and lovely and clean. Not the warmest room but that was better than being too warm. The evening meal included in the package was a buffet options included a lovely carvery, Indian options and salad stuff. Starters and sweet rounded off a nice meal. The bar was excellent with attentive staff, good views and nice atmosphere. The hotel only caters for adults and it was nice to be younger than the average guest. There was entertainment but we didn’t partake. A good choice of draught drinks at expected hotel prices £6-£7 per pint. Plenty of alternatives including soft drinks. Breakfast was buffet style again with some non- buffet options. The only “complaint” would be that the full English buffet was only warm rather than hot, other than that the food quality overall was very good. We hadn’t added anything to the room account so check out was simple and allowed us to crack on with our day.

The hotel and grounds are beautiful with many historical features. The food and service was very quick if a little on the catering for numbers side and less bespoke but all enjoyable nonetheless. The clientele was generally of an older generation and their number outweighed the golfers so there was a nice holiday atmosphere. I have booked a return visit for a non golf weekend with my wife.

We stayed at the Warner HeyThrop Park for a Golf Holiday weekend with a group of about 15 players. We all enjoyed our stay and would recommend this venue most definitely.

Would have been a really good weekend (sun/Mon) - if the place wasn't closing for a year on the Monday. So yes we played golf - but then had no drink, no food, nowhere to even give prizes as golf club full of staff having goodbye party. Not interested in us, would not allow us to even use any space there so ended up prize giving with dry throats and empty stomachs in a car park!!. Such a shame as food and drink great on the Sunday and course always a challenge. Very poor service on Monday and should never have agreed to have groups if not willing to serve them. Very, very disappointed we were not told in advance. All i got from any staff I asked about situation was a shrug - we are closing, many losing jhobs, why should we care about you.....

Excellent hotel. Only complaint is that I didn't have a fridge in my room, and the one in my mates room didn't work! We advised reception and they said they'd sort it.

Wonderful place, superb food and all served with a smile. Shame the small rooms let the hose down. Very small twin bedrooms. It appears though that the hotel is closing for a year from next week for a £45million refit. Great staff

Modern clean room with good bathroom, walk in shower attached to Grade II House. Staff very helpful. Food needs to improve. Some items at breakfast cold and main meal sauce on chicken like water. Portions small. Course in good condition but long, steep walking. Great for price.

We played the course twice and definitely benefited from the experience on the second round. A nice welcome both days in the golf reception. We took advantage of the Costa coffee machine and also has a trolley on day one. The first round took 4.5hrs walking, the second round took 4hrs using a buggy. The driving range has about 10 bays, 6 undercover and approximately 4 spaces outside. Standard range balls here. Excellent putting green on the way to the first tee. The course was in good condition with the greens being quite quick for mid-April. A previous knowledge of the course would help, or a course guide. Position was key for many of the holes. The opening 4 holes are easily assessed, the wind will be a factor here. The next stretch of holes are more varied, leading to some fabulous holes where position is key. The back nine starts innocuously until the 11th - a great par 5 once you have played it once, somewhat frustrating first time around with lateral hazards either side of the fairway. The following holes provide a challenging back nine with some memorable holes. Local knowledge is key. I’m a 9 handicap, my back nine first time was 50 shots, second back nine 37 shots - knowledge was key. Finishing both rounds with a birdie left a very pleasant taste. The course is well laid out and makes good use of the natural environment. One point would be the long green to tee walks especially on the back nine. For me this equated to 18,000+ steps, hence the buggy hire on the second day. Ultimately a lovely course, challenging and an excellent location - marries well to the hotel experience. Recommended.

A good course. Ladies tees were poor in terms of clearly not looked after. Good design of course with plenty of variety.

The course has some great holes making good use of the landscape and the views of the Manor House itself. My low handicap friend scored a very good 78 while off 13 I was a more modest 94. The greens were in great condition, some of the T boxes a bit tatty but it had been a very dry period of weather. There are some long walks including uphills so electric trollies are a blessing. It was very hot when we played so everyone wanted buggies but they didn’t have enough so we walked which was fine but not for a beginner golfer. I would be very happy to book in future to play again.

Golf course was good. Greens very good. Downside was long walk between tees. The pro shop non existent. They double booked buggies on the Sunday, so we we only had one buggy per group. This made it an extremely long walk. You need to be very fit

We all loved the course proved to be a great test of our golfing ability. The Greens were great and speedy the course step up was a good physical and mental challenged. One massive issue was the signage and tee boxes. The Tee boxes looked a little worn. The Signage was confusing on some holes and got players lost could do with a refresh although there is a map of the course on the card not everyone checks the cards. Thanks

Fantastic golf course in a very beautiful landscape. No on course toilet is a nuisance for women especially. Physical walk but so worth it.

Tee boxes need some attention - other than that a good course. Golf still open the year hotel shut - but obviously don't go there for weekend or expect any food, or drink, or service......

Interesting golf course with a layout that snakes around the estate grounds. Some challenging holes especially for shorter hitters. Some very long walks between greens and tees. Signage (next tee) could be improved. Hotel is about to close for 1 year and whilst the course is going to stay open, the pro shop and bar area are all closed so limited facilities.

I think this course really needs a starter. We played 3*18 holes over three days and Thursday and Friday were 4.5 hours and 5.25 respectively. I think some people were teeing off early or late because it was a bit of a slow crawl in places.

The course is a long, long walk! Average length between green and tee must be 200/300 yards (or it seemed it!) The greens were in great condition but very difficult to read all the slopes. Tee boxes poor but no different to most society golf courses. Clubhouse terrible and pro shop almost non existent. Stock up on balls, tees and drinks before you go.
