The golf course was originally laid out by the esteemed Bob Simpson in 1895, before some tweaking in the 1930s by the prolific James Braid.

Despite being relatively unknown in the wider golfing community, those fortunate enough to have played at Edzell will agree that it is a hidden gem, as recognised by Golf Monthly in 1999.
The original Old Course underwent a modernisation programme in 2003, and is now complemented by the nine-hole West Water course, opened in 2001.
