Numerous indigenous trees have been planted on and around the El Puerto course and the architect, former European Tour and Ryder Cup star Manuel Pinero, has worked wonders with the terrain to create a course that can be a nice place for a pleasant social round or a venue for a professional championship.
He has used the natural water resources and depressions to great effect for the creation of lakes and streams. The course features a modern irrigation system and has four lakes that are drained by a system of streams and slopes that guide the water to the lowest part of the course.
Without blind spots but with generous fairways and greens protected by lakes, rivers and trees, this is a charming course with personality and plenty of challenges, but enjoyable and fit for all kinds of players.
The golf course can be played to a 7,000-yard length but, again, multiple tees make it an enjoyable challenge for players ranging from scratch players to near novices.
