As you may know, "Fore!" is shouted as a warning during a golf game when it appears possible that a golf ball may hit other players or spectators. The term means "ahead" (think of a ship's fore and aft), and it is believed to come from the military "beware before", which was shouted when a battery fired behind friendly troops in the early 19th century. Yelling "fore" is simply a shorter way to yell "watch out ahead" (or "watch out before"). It allows golfers to be forewarned, in other words. So when golfers misfired and send their golf balls - missiles - screaming off target, "beware before" became shortened to "fore."
