However, there is no need to be intimidated, as the variety of tees on offer makes the par-73 track playable for visiting golfers of all abilities. The inventive design has made full use of the natural hazards presented by the existing land, providing numerous obstacles for players to negotiate.
Course management is the key around George Washington, where it is essential to position both tee and approach shots correctly to score well. Away from the fairways, there is a useful practice centre which includes putting and chipping greens, a driving range and a 9-hole par-3 course, ideal for honing the swing and sharpening the short game.
George Washington's hotel is set beautifully amidst its own 200-acre estate, and is a charming retreat. There is a variety of room types among the 103 guest bedrooms, ranging from doubles, twins and triples through to executive suites.
All come with the necessary amenities to ensure a comfortable stay, and the friendly staff are always on hand to help accommodate any wishes or desires. Visitors will also be impressed by the standard of the hotel's facilities, with an excellent restaurant and lounge bar, and well-equipped leisure centre.

We went to the George Washington Golf and Country Club in Newcastle for a golf break at the end of May 2011.
The golf course was a good layout although a few more hazards here and there would have made it more interesting and challenging. As it is the course is enjoyable but fairly benign. Good golfers would want more of a challenge! The 19th hole was warm and friendly the price of a pint was reasonable. Nothing better than a cold pint of Kronenburg 1664 after a round of golf in the sun!
The hotel was good and the staff were very friendly. The food was also excellent.
Overall I would rate our golf break as 7 out of 10 and would return in the future. Your Golf Travel’s service was a 9/10 and we will be booking our upcoming golf breaks with you.
