The Gog Magog Golf Club’s unusual name is derived from the chalk hills across which its courses are laid out; the two hills are a reference to Gog and Magog, two giants from ancient mythology. The club was founded in 1901 by Cambridge University, and is now a stronger presence than ever.

Old Course
The original course at the club’s inauguration was designed by Dons and Hawtree, and is now known as the Old Course. Measuring 6,398 yards, the Old is a fascinating test of golf, with a premium placed upon putting; the subtle slopes of the greens, accentuated in the dry summer months, can prove extremely treacherous.
Wandlebury Course
In 1997, Martin Hawtree, grandson of the Old Course’s designer, unveiled his Wandlebury Course. This addition has made the club even more desirable, and has added much to its character. Though different in style, the Wandlebury is an equally challenging proposition – it is longer (6,735 yards), but is also more open than the Old Course.
The historic Gog Magog Golf Club is bursting with character, and its two varied and fascinating courses make it a fine addition to any Cambridge golf tour.
