Although the buzz words in the Loire are gastronomy and wine, the golf courses should not be underestimated. Golf de Pornic was established in 1929 and has since become one of the finest layouts in the Loire region. In addition to the top class golf course, Golf de Pornic also boasts an excellent pro shop, extensive practice facilities and an on-site restaurant and thus would be a fantastic inclusion on any golf tour of France.
Measuring 6,694 yards from the back tees, Golf de Pornic is by no means an overly long golf course by modern standards but the par of 72 is still a challenging target, especially when you consider the array of obstacles the golfer must negotiate on their way around the course. Holes one to six feature tree lined fairways and as such accuracy is paramount. The remainder of the course is more open and has a hint of links about it. The occasional water hazard and excellent bunkering add to the challenge and the course is well maintained, boasting particularly good putting surfaces.
For those who like to arrive at the course early to warm up before their round can do just that thanks to a good array of practice facilities including a driving range, practice putting green and a short game area including practice bunkers.
