The golf course at Grantown-on-Spey was established in 1890, and is now recognized as a mature parkland track. Despite being relatively short, golfers of all standards will be tested by the varying styles inherent in the course.
Locals describe the opening stretch as gentle parkland, while around the turn the holes wind through woodland, before the closing stretch encompasses the undulating ground leading to the clubhouse.
There is no doubt that the signature hole is the short par-4 ninth, named Murdie's view. With spectacular views over the pines and the Cromdale Hills, it encapsulates what Highland golf is all about. A 1999 refurbishment has made visitors' experience more comfortable, with significant improvements made to the clubhouse, locker room and bar.
Combined with the Cairngorms closing in around the course, this is a truly idyllic golfing haven.
The river Spey has some great runs of salmon for the keen angler, with over 8,000 fish taken each year.
