HAMBURGER FALKENSTEIN

prev next

The Falkenstein Course was the second to be completed at the Hamburg Golf Club, which is among the most prestigious golfing venues in the north of Germany. The course was opened in 1930 to critical acclaim thanks to the outstanding design formulated by Harry S. Colt, John Morrison and Charles Allison.

The course could not have a better basis; the sandy turf is free draining, and ensures that the Falkenstein remains in pristine condition year round. Carved through impressive woodland and bordered by great swathes of purple heather, visiting golfers could be forgiven for thinking they were playing one of the great heathland tracks of Surrey or Berkshire.

The German Open has been staged at this Germanic gem no less than eight times, with Bernhard Langer triumphing on home ground in 1981. Though not far from the centre of Hamburg, the so-called ‘Venice of the North', Falkenstein is tranquil and serene, and is a delightful place to enjoy first class championship golf.
