Hankley Common began its journey in 1897 when the original nine holes were inaugurated, but it was not until 1922, when the great James Braid was acquired to lead a team to create an additional nine, that the club really took shape. Today, Hankley Common is regarded as one of the finest golfing establishments in the south-east.

The great Bobby Locke once described Hankley Common as “the closest thing to a seaside links”, largely due to the merciless bunkering and the hard, bouncy fairways and greens. During the summer, the course becomes a real test of control, but is also exceptionally beautiful thanks to the purple heather.
The short 7th is arguably the signature hole, while the course builds to a mighty crescendo with its superb closing hole. The entire layout is set against the natural backdrop of the estate’s rowan, oak and silver birch, and is a joy to behold during a golf escape in leafy Surrey.
