Hawkstone Course

The golf complex at Hawkstone Park extends to forty two holes, giving visiting golfers excellent variety. The 18-hole Hawkstone Course is where a young Sandy Lyle learnt his trade and it boasts some excellent holes. Particular highlights come around the turn and include holes such as the 12th, which has cleverly made use of the castle’s moat. Measuring 6,487 yards, this course is long enough to pose a question of even the best player’s golf game while not being overbearing for the lesser equipped player.

The 10th on the Hawkstone is the resort's signature; named ‘The Road Hole', the 518 yard par-5 hugs the dramatic cliff top.

Championship Course

The Championship Course is Hawkstone Park’s youngest layout and has made this venue one of the few in the West Midlands to boast 36 holes of championship golf. Weighing in at 6,763 yards it is noticeably longer than the Hawkstone Course and features many Americanisms – including generous fairways and large water hazards – which create an interesting juxtaposition with the stunning, and very English surroundings.

Academy Course

The six-hole Academy Course is especially useful for beginners but also offers a good opportunity for more experienced players to work on their short game or to simply enjoy some golf should they be pressed for time. Hawkstone Park also boasts good practice facilities including a 20-bay driving range an extensive short game area with both putting and chipping greens.

Hotel Information

The country hotel at Hawkstone Park boasts 66 comfortable en-suite bedrooms which are perfectly in keeping with its stunning countryside surroundings.  There is a range of accommodation options including Single, Twin and Double rooms. Two Suites boasting separate lounge areas as well as two Superior rooms, each containing a lounge area within the room, are also available for those looking for an added slice of luxury. Standard amenities include direct dial telephone and satellite TV, not to mention the added bonus of spectacular views from many of the rooms.

At Hawkstone Park there is a dining option for every occasion. Enjoy something casual in the Terrace Restaurant or a more sophisticated meal in the excellent Hawkstone Restaurant. During a weekend golf break you simply can’t miss out on a Sunday lunch here as they are the stuff of local legend!

During time away from the golf course be sure to explore the 18th century Hawkstone Follies. This fantasyland of cliffs, caves, woodland, and ancient monuments boast a Grade 1 certification from the English Heritage organisation and make Hawkstone Park really stand out from the pack. Highlights include a vintage wooden structure spanning a deep chasm known as Swiss Bridge and the Monument whose peak allows you to gaze over no less than 13 counties.

Venue reviews for Hawkstone Park Hotel, Golf & Country Club

This venue has 21 reviews, with an average rating of 5 out of 5

A simple phone call to one of your staff was all it took for all the arrangements to be made - accommodation, tee times etc. I don't know his name but the chap who dealt with me was first class.

An email followed which accurately documented the schedule. On our arrival everything was in place and we were able to enjoy a relaxing few days. Hawkstone Park is a great venue. Two very good golf courses, excellent facilities and very friendly and helpful staff. I felt that the break; two nights accommodation and 3 rounds of golf was excellent value for money. We will definitely arrange a similar event again through your company. Kind regards,

We had a great time at Hawkstone Park, the weather turned out better than predicted with only had a little rain on Sunday. Everything went very smoothly on our arrival at Hawkstone Park. We found our rooms to be well maintained, quite possibly having been recently refurnished. The beds were very comfortable. Excellent showers. The service and the quality of the food in the restaurant was very good. We commented that there had been a marked improvement (especially at breakfast) since we had last visited the hotel in 2007.

The Championship Course was possibly not as in good a condition as we have found it to be in the past but the Hawkstone Course had been well maintained. The facilities and food served at the clubhouse were excellent as always. We found all the staff friendly, welcoming, helpful and excellent at their jobs. Finally we were very happy with our weekend break, considered it to be value for money and will do doubt take up any other similar offers from your company. We have used your company previously and we have recommended you to various friends which I hope shows that we have been most happy with the service you have provided. Thank you - your efforts have been appreciated.

Just a quick thank you for arranging our 1 night stay at Hawkestone Park on Sunday this week together with the two rounds of golf.We arrived at 1.30 to a friendly welcome and our room key was awaiting us.Having booked in we made our way to the pro's shop, once again we were happy to find that everything had been arranged as you had promised. We will definitely book with you again, and look forward to speaking to you in the very near future.Kind Regards,

Have just returned from a fantastic golf weekend at Hawkstone park, and would like to say thank you for all your help in organising the event. I will definitely recommend your company to friends. Thanks again,

On behalf of all my golfing group we would like to thank you for a wonderful 4 days, the Hotel & staff were 1st rate, the golf courses were top class and the group enjoyed playing 2 courses twice. Regards,

I would just like to thank Your Golf Travel, for organising our superb four night golf break at Hawkstone Park. Everything went like clockwork, and look forward to booking with you again.

Fantastic courses everyone very pleased, the clubhouse has an ideal setting with balcony overlooking 18th holes (2 courses) with reasonable prices, just a bit dearer than usual pubs. Atmosphere nice with the quality of food and hotel room really good. The hotel was easy to find with no need for a Sat-Nav and the weather was perfect, overall I would give 8/10 but I never give 10/10. Thanks,

Our group of 12 has just had a wonderful time at Hawkstone Park. We stayed overnight and played each of the two courses, we were blessed with great weather. The courses themselves were in excellent condition, greens quite quick and very true. Our group was was quite a mixture of abilities and for such a party the courses were ideal, rewarding good ball striking but not too calamitous for someone on a bad run.
The clubhouse is modern and spacious with a great viewing balcony. Drinks and snacks a lot more than at my club but about average for this kind of venue. Staff very accomodating, the pre-ordered rolls and coffee on arrival were very efficiently produced. Everything booked through Yourgolftravel was spot on - no hitches whatever.

My golf society just enjoyed a top golf break at Hawkstone Park...what a venue!

Both of the golf courses were in excellent condition and the greens were in great shape. The Championship course has water in play on numerous holes, so you really have to hold your nerve on some of the tee shots! If you drive the ball well, you can negotiate some of the challenges that are thrown at you. The Hawkstone course is also very enjoyable and has plenty of interesting holes with tight undulating fairways and blind tee shots. Some of the holes are pretty short, so there's a decent score out there if you keep it in play. My mate Adam "the bandit", scored 79 stableford points off a 15 handicap, over the 2 rounds which more than proves that point! Thankfully I almost holed my tee shot at the nearest the pin hole, otherwise he would have won the lot!

The 19th hole is very good and has plenty of space for large groups and a nice balcony overlooking the 18th, where you can heckle your friends as they finish their round. The hotel is good, but it only 3* and a little tired looking...still, we weren’t there for the hotel as while n a golf break we felt we should be playing golf! The food on offer in both the clubhouse and the hotel was very nice and served with a smile by the lovely Amy. For a night out I would strongly recommend Shrewsbury rather than Stoke. We enjoyed a good few drinks in Monty's bar, which certainly helps explain my poor performance on the Sunday!

Overall the venue ticked all the boxes and the service from YourGolfTravel was as excellent as ever. We will be back in touch when the time comes to book our next golf holiday. We were leaning towards something further afield and have heard great things from friends who have been on golf breaks in Turkey.

Just a note to say our golf trip to Hawkstone Park was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in our party. We all felt the golf break package we got from Your Golf Travel was excellent value for money and the venue is one of the finest we had visited on any golf holiday or golf tour.

Both golf courses are challenging and offer a great selection of holes. We particularly enjoyed the reachable par 5s as there is nothing better than a make or break golf hole. The Hawkstone course was in better nick but we preferred the layout of the Championship course. Both golf courses are certainly worth a crack and we would recommend them to any golfer.

The hotel was great as was the food. The quality and choice available from the A la carte menu for our evening meal and the food at breakfast were certainly better than we expected for the price and we found the rooms to be very comfortable and well furnished. I would certainly recommend this golf break package to fellow golfers.

We live close to Hawkstone Park so when we saw the discount golf break deal on the Your Golf Travel Facebook page we booked immediately!

The golf courses were in excellent condition and we enjoyed both equally. We played the Hawkstone Course on arrival and loved it...the greens had been hollow cored but we understand it has to be done at some time or another! Dinner that evening was outstanding. We rather expected a restricted menu given that the cost of our golf break was only 69 pounds per head...not a bit of it!! We had a choice of anything on the menu and all of our choices were delicious, beautifully presented and red hot on arrival at the table.

The hotel was full of visiting golfers and the atmosphere was bustling and a good night was had by all. The greens on the Championship Course, which we played on the second day, were quite outstanding. We were cordially made welcome in the clubhouse, bar and hotel and the service was first class throughout. We all agreed that we would definitely be returning to Hawkstone Park in the future and certainly with Your Golf Travel. Many thanks for your service, which was impressively quick and professional at all times.

I did a group booking for a weekend golf break at Hawkstone Park and I can confirm that all 24...yes 24...had a wonderful weekend. We were surprised by the quality of the venue as the golf break we had booked was very cheap indeed. The 2 golf courses at Hawkstone were brilliant and offered two very different tests; perfect for a weekend golf trip as they kept us on our toes for all 36 holes.

On the Sunday we played the older Hawkstone Course which passes through some really picturesque countryside. It made excellent use of the natural features of the rolling landscape and was my personal favourite of the two golf courses. On the Monday we played the Championship Course designed by Brian Huggett in 1995 which contained many American style features such as oval-shaped tees, rolling fairways and to my personal cost, expanses of open water. The clubhouse was most impressive and gave an excellent views of the golf courses. We were fortunate to have beautiful hot weather with hardly a breath of wind on both days which coupled with the excellent greens made excuses hard to come by if you returned a low scoring stableford card!

The accommodation was of a good standard without being outstanding and given we were only staying the one night did not give rise to any complaints. We made use of the games room facilities in the evening using both the Snooker and Pool tables late into the night. The evening meal was satisfactory but unfortunately there were insufficient roast potatoes! The only other moans I heard were about the cost of the drinks which were expensive. However, the breakfast was first class with a wide and varied choice.

On reflection it was an excellent choice for our annual weekend golfing break and represented good value for money. Overall I would give it 9/10 and owing to the hot weather, if it had had a swimming pool, it would have received 10/10. It will be at the top of the list of venues under consideration for next year.

Your Golf Travel’s personal service, patience and attention to detail was much appreciated in making everything run smoothly.

Thanks very much for organising a fantastic golf break at Hawkstone Park. I had heard Your Golf Travel were good but I didn’t realise you can also provide customers with perfect weather as well! Both the courses were in great condition and we enjoyed the difference between the US style Championship Course and the shorter but far more mature and strategically challenging Hawkstone Course, where Sandy Lyle learned his trade.

The 19th hole and hotel were both very welcoming, reasonably priced, the food excellent and the rooms perfectly adequate. This is a fantastic venue for a golf break for players of any level. It’s easy to find, in lovely countryside and we'll be going again for another golf break before too long.

Thanks for your attentive and efficient service and making a special occasion so memorable.

Our golf break to Hawkstone Park was fantastic. From the hotel and the clubhouse to the courses and the countryside Hawkstone was brilliant.

The two golf courses were in excellent condition and the greens in particular were a pleasure to putt on. The Hawkstone was a fantastic layout that would have easily stolen the show had it not been for our 5 and a half hour round which became frustrating. The longer Championship Course was quite a test and as we had moved our tee time forward we whizzed round in 3 hours.

The hotel was clean and comfortable and our Sunday lunch in the Hawkstone restaurant was out of this world. All in all we would thoroughly recommend Hawkstone Park for a weekend golf break and as usual Your Golf Travel provided a professional service and a fantastic price.

Our group of twenty thoroughly enjoyed their golf break at Hawkstone Park. Both of the golf courses were in great condition with the greens in particularly fine fettle.

The accommodation was good and the food and service provided by the hotel were excellent. We would all recommend a golf break to this golf venue especially at the "Sunday Driver" rates we paid.

Thank you Your Golf Travel, marks out of 10.......9.25!

Our trip to Hawkstone was most enjoyable, although the weather could have been a lot better as we got thoroughly soaked on the final morning! It is some 14 years since we were last there and I really could not remember much about it. Having said that I remember it being a good experience hence why we went back. We were not disappointed, the hotel was very comfortable and the food and service was excellent and we would not hesitate to go back in the future. The courses were in great condition especially considering the weather we have had this year, but I wish we had chosen the Hawkstone course to play twice and not the Championship as this has more character and less rough! We also played the Academy course and this proved very challenging. Overall the trip was enjoyed by us all, a very easy journey from Reading and very good value thanks to the deal Your Golf Travel gave us! I would certainly recommend the services of YGT to others and thank you for your personal service and help.

Jeff

We had a great couple of days at Hawkstone Park and, apart from some light rain when we teed off on the second day, we managed to stay dry and enjoyed some pleasant sunshine. Despite the very wet weather that the whole country has experienced both courses were well presented and surprisingly dry.

The public rooms at the hotel were pleasant and well decorated, particularly the dining room which was bright and airy. The staff were very pleasant and efficient and we had a lovely dinner on Monday evening and all in all it was excellent value for money. Lunch in the clubhouse was also good and very reasonably priced.

The girls had a lovely morning out in Shrewsbury which was only about 20 minutes drive and they made use of the park and ride which they said was a wise move. Shops and coffee suited them fine! This certainly is a deal to be recommended.

Kind regards,

Darell

The golf course had obviously been under water recently however this did not stand in the way of a truly enjoyable golf break. The Championship Course was a long test of golf on an American style course. However, everybody’s favourite was the Hawkstone Course. It is just perfect for society golf days with an exciting layout and impressively well kept fairways. While the Hawkstone did provide a challenge, my favourite aspect is that you could almost always find your ball! Furthermore we arrived late for the tee time and the course was very understanding, we were not met with any problems or negativity. A lot of the guys mentioned that they would have been happy just to stay and play at Hawkstone, but then again they hadn’t scored very well at the others!

The highlight of the hotel was its location. Set amongst beautiful countryside, next to a Medieval Castle ruins and the cliffs of the Follies. Parts of this 18th century resort were a bit tired but hey, that’s part of the charm! The staff were ever so helpful, the staff at reception were brilliant and the chef even came in early to prepare breakfast for our morning departure to Llaymynech.

Llanmynech was fantastic fun and provided panoramic views everywhere. It was the perfect course for a society who drank far too much the night before because the fresh air soon woke us up! The course featured big carries off hilltops, and is uniquely positioned so that you play one round of golf in two separate countries. On the 4th you tee off in Wales and putt in England! In places the condition of the course wasn’t amazing but nothing too much to complain about. The old wooden clubhouse was very welcoming with good quality and very reasonably priced food.

Cheers,

Kevin

Thanks to YGT for arranging the golf break as the saying goes it did everything on the tin that they said it would!

We had a great weekend obviously enhanced by the weather. On first arrival into the club house we were impressed with the layout and in particular the balcony overlooking the 18th hole of both courses! Onto the courses the championship was a belter really superb and tough with the course set up and superb greens all uniform in pace. Whilst the Championship is probably the toughest course we have played this year the Hawkstone is one of the most beautiful in particular the 10th hole par 5 which heads down hill to the famous gorge and follies. We found the clubhouse efficient and quite reasonable on cost but a little disappointed that they ran out of sandwiches on Sunday! The hotel restaurant was very good the meals excellent however the exterior and fitting of the hotel could do with some TLC. Overall an excellent venue a good 8 out of 10. From the Your Golf Travel team we experienced everything completed as we expect pure efficiency which takes the stress out for organisers our score for them is 10 out of 10.

Once again thanks for YGT for their contribution to a great weekend.

Great value for money as always. Unfortunately, due to weeks of heavy rain, the Championship course is unfit for play. We decided to curtail our round to 16 holes because of the underfoot conditions. Needless to say no buggies were allowed on either course. Still had a good time and hope to be back soon, weather permitting.

After a very successful addition into the Activities programme this year, it was great to see the whole Golf Team keen and enthusiastic to go on a mini golf break during the holidays. The package Hawkstone Park near Shrewsbury offered was absolutely fantastic and hopefully this will become an annual event. We drove down on Monday morning and had time to practice before going out onto the Championship Course, all be it in less than perfect conditions! The course was superb, and let’s just say the scores were not quite as good, except for Jack Nunn, who playing off 25 scored a Nett 71 one under par.

Then following a very impressive ‘Dinner Bed & Breakfast’ we were raring to get out onto the ‘Hawkstone Course’ which takes in the wondrous views of ‘The Follies’ an English Heritage Site described as; The Follies is a fantasyland of cliffs, crags, caves, deep woods and a series of extraordinary monuments built more than 200 years ago. After years of neglect, the magical landscape was lovingly restored and reopened in 1993. 'Striking scenes and terrific grandeur' were the words Samuel Johnson used to describe The Follies when he visited them in 1774.

In much better weather the scoring improved, but yet again Jack Nunn played well below his handicap scoring 48 Stableford points putting the rest of us to shame. After two rounds of golf, both on excellent courses everyone was tired but exhilarated by the experience.Abbotsholme can again be proud of their students; the hotel staff said ‘How lovely the boys were’, and other golfing groups said; ‘It’s so nice to see youngsters being taught etiquette on the course’. The trip was a huge success through YGT and I would like to thank both students and parents.

The golf break went well at Hawkstone Park Hotel, Golf & Country Club despite the dreadful weather. The golf courses, staff and meals were all excellent. Only comments are that the accommodation needs rebuilding, and the wine prices are so high that we noticed very few of our regular wine drinkers were indulging.

Your Golf Travel was helpful and courteous in the handling of our queries.

It would be an understatement to say we enjoyed our golf break to Hawkstone Park Hotel, Golf & Country Club.

The location is superbly positioned near to the Welsh boarders, in an area of superb natural beauty. The 2 golf courses were in excellent condition and supplied a great challenge to our group of many different golfing abilities, with our 25 handicapper returning 35pts one day, and 7 handicapper 36pts on another day.

A memorable ‘Albatross’ was scored on the outstandingly beautiful par 5 hole which leads you towards the historic 18th century “ Follies” monument, and was followed up in the traditional way with Champers at the 19th hole, a very spacious golf club bar which overlooks the 18th hole.

The food and the accommodation were good and the staff were excellent and the whole experience was a memorable one which will provide many happy memories and a definite return to the Hawkstone venue.

The help and advice from YGT and the ease of alteration to our booking (which always happens with a group) all ensured this would be a great golfing experience.
