Heythrop Park

Tom Mackenzie was charged with the design of the course at Heythrop Park and in conjunction with English Heritage 90% of the estate was replanted to make room for a thoroughly entertaining and undeniably beautiful golf course.

The 7,088 yard par-72 is classically English in style, with highlights that include the water surrounded green at the short par-4 6th, culminating in the arrow-straight closing hole, just shy of 600 yards. The course combined with one of the most historic Estates in England makes Heythrop Park an ideal destination for a relaxing golf break in the English countryside.

Heythrop Park Golf and Country Club is nestled in over 400 acres of picturesque English Countryside and travelling golfers can enjoy the selection of 137 Archer and Shrewsbury guestrooms which are located in the newer wings of the hotel. The stylish rooms are well equipped with modern conveniences and are all en-suite. The stunning Main House is home to a further 17 guestrooms which reflect the age old style of the mansion itself and offer magnificent views of the estate.

For a light snack or a relaxing drink head to the Charlbury Bar or for a grand dining experience head to the Terrace Restaurant; the culinary highlight of a trip to Heythrop Park.

Golfer reviews

Our weekend golf break at Heythrop Park went very well both on and off the golf course.

The hotel was stylish and comfortable; perfectly fit for its purpose. The food in the Terrace Restaurant was brilliant and the service was up to scratch as well. We relaxed in the Charlbury Bar during the evenings and found the drinks prices to be fair.

The golf course was outstanding and in top quality condition. The layout was intriguing and kept the golfer guessing although there were some strange green and white markers on the course which we were told were there to mark environmental areas where golfers were not allowed to go. This meant any wayward drive that strayed into one of these areas resulted in a free drop back on the hole! I wasn’t complaining though as I got away with the odd bad shot and subsequently scored very well!

All in all Heythrop Park is a great venue for a weekend golf break. It has a feeling of exclusivity and the grounds and the main house are stunning. Combine that with the value for money on offer from Your Golf Travel and you are onto a winner.

Heythrop Park Resort was the destination for our golf break.

Definitely the best place we have played so far!! We all found it a tough challenging course but have absolutely no issues with the venue. The course, considering the weather we have had, was in fantastic condition. Bunkers and water hazards all added to a brilliant day. The hotel was amazing too!

We stayed for a Saturday and Sunday at Heythrop Park Hotel. All the arrangements for booking were first class and the reception at the hotel was efficient and very friendly. The hotel is easy to find.

We were extremely impressed by the hotel which is a converted stately hall. All the downstairs rooms at the hotel had been renovated to a high standard and the views beautiful. The hotel has a two mile drive and the building is extremely beautiful.

We played the course on the Saturday and Sunday mornings and found it an interesting and for us quite demanding with many of the holes being uphill. The greens were generally good and the course was not too crowded. The views were lovely with lots of wild life in view.

The meal on the Saturday evening was of an adequate standard with quite a small choice on our package. The service in the hotel was very friendly but could do with some development if they want to attain a high standard. Breakfast on the Sunday was good with plenty of choice served in a pleasant dining room.

The drinks at the bar were quite expensive as were the snacks in the golf section. We played snooker in a lovely old room and the sitting areas in the hotel were of a high standard. The bedrooms were clean and fairly basic but you could convert to a higher standard if necessary.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Heythrop and would recommend it along with Your Golf Travel who were excellent.
