Heythrop Park is a monumental stately home commissioned for construction by the 12th Earl of Shrewsbury in the early 18th century. Boasting a rich history and distinct Roman influence, Heythrop Park is a stunning estate which has now been transformed into a luxury leisure retreat; at the heart of the development is a brand new, eagerly awaited championship golf course.
The task of modelling the new golf course at Heythrop Park fell to Tom Mackenzie of Mackezie & Ebert, who worked alongside English Heritage as the project demanded the replanting of 90% of the original estate parkland. Mackenzie mapped the championship layout around this, and the results are striking.
The 7,088 yard par-72 is classically English in style, with highlights that include the water surrounded green at the short par-4 6th, culminating in the arrow-straight closing hole, just shy of 600 yards and with the imposing mansion house serving as the backdrop.
