Bruges is among the most popular of destinations for a golf tour or golf break in Belgium and although it is the collection of excellent golf courses that is the main attraction for golfers from far and wide, the historic charms of Bruges itself certainly play a part. Set in the centre of this stunning medieval city is the Hotel Oud Huis de Peellaert which, as the former residence of the Baron de Peellaert, offers a infinitely charming and luxurious accommodation option to those embarking on a golf holiday in Belgium.

10/10 and we will definitely return next year...

Many thanks Paul for arranging our latest golfing break to Belgium. Bruges was a real hit for all of my fellow travellers and they have all asked to return again next year.

The Hotel Oud Huis de Peelleart was fantastic. Large rooms with good decor, comfortable beds and large bathrooms. Tea & coffee facilities were available in the room and the breakfast was great - cereal, continental & cooked breakfast all available buffet style. There is a small bar with a comfortable & large lounge area to relax and socialise and the location of the hotel is just 5 minutes walk from the main town square where there are an abundance of bars & restaurants to choose from.  The staff were very friendly & helpful and all spoke excellent English. The hotel only has 4 parking spaces available and they are quite expensive at €20 per night. There is a secure public car park about 5 minutes walk for just €12 per 24 hours and it was safe to leave our golf clubs in the cars there.

We first played Oostburg Golf & Country Club, just over the border into Holland (about 40 minutes drive). A relatively new course which has a great layout and loads of water. They are currently developing some holiday homes around the back 9 which will make the overall appearance really good. The greens had just been treated but putted ok and we have to accept that this work is always done at this time of year. The Clubhouse was amazing, one which any Club in the UK would love to have. We received a warm welcome and the overall service was great. They have a slightly unusual way of purchasing food & drink, they allocate a bar card to the organiser (me!) and all food & drink is purchased on this and then settle at the end. It was a bit of a pain having to collect money off everyone and trusting them to be honest as to what they had! A large beer was €4.50, brandy €7.50 and coffee €2.70.

Our second round took us to Damme Golf & Country Club which is about 15 minutes drive from Bruges. This course is more established but still has a great deal of water on it - some of which you can’t see! You have to be fairly accurate off the tee to avoid ditches, ponds and OOB but the layout is beautiful and the greens were very good. The Clubhouse was fantastic and comfortable with a separate changing room building which incorporates an indoor teaching facility. Beer was €4.50 and coffee €2.50.

As we were a group of 21, finding a restaurant in Bruges to cater for us all was a challenge, however I found a delightful restaurant just off the main town square which was able to seat us all together and off us a choice off their Fixe-Prix menu. De Bocarme is a family run restaurant and Patrick, the owner, could not have been more helpful. I made contact before our visit and he sent me the menu from which we were able to choose. The food was excellent. We were given a appetiser on arrival, followed by a fantastic 3-course meal all cooked fresh for €37 for a fine dining experience this was great value and with our wine on the table the bill came to just €50 per head. I cannot recommend De Bocarme enough and is a perfect place for groups to dine.

The journey to Belgium took us on Eurotunnel which was great and Bruges is just 1 hour 20 minutes from the French terminal at Calais. Although road closures in Bruges caused some confusion on our Sat Navs, my previous visits to Bruges enabled me to lead my convoy successfully to the our destination.

I would give this break 10/10 and we will definitely return next year. The service received from Paul at YGT has been great, always friendly, thorough and knowledgeable. I would not hesitate in recommending YGT to anyone looking for a professional service.

Thanks again Paul. Will speak to you soon for next year!!!
