Before going to Marrakech on our golfing break, everybody that we told had the same reaction – golfing in Marrakech??? Well for all those people who questioned it as a venue for a golf break, please think again! From the moment we got picked up from the airport we felt welcomed. The driver gave us a mini tour on the way to the hotel, and the hotel itself (Riu Tikida Garden) was an oasis of peace and tranquillity amongst the dry and bustling world of Marrakech. Everything you expect from a Riu hotel delivered – quality of food and service, cleanliness, and superb facilities.
The golf itself, I personally believe, is on a Par with anything that Spain has to offer, and in the Samanah Golf Resort, Marrakech has something special – beautiful course, with possibly the fastest and truest greens I have ever played. A real challenge. Each course we played though had its own little challenges (we played Palmeraie, Al Maaden, Amelkis and Samanah), but each came with the exact same welcome and attention to detail. We were a group of 8, ranging from 12 to 28 handicaps, and the golf was true test for all. I would definitely recommend getting caddies for at least a couple of the rounds too. Our first round at the Palmeraie course with caddies was probably the best fun I have had on a golf course! Within 3 holes my caddy knew more about my game than I did, and the banter between us all was great. The 19th hole was quite expensive for a beer, but limiting it to one, and then back to the All Inclusive bar at the Hotel didn’t hurt the pocket too much!
I almost didn't write this review as it would be nice to keep it a secret! However, I have already recommended this to 2 other golfing groups who appear very interested in booking a trip, as the value for money alone is outstanding. We will definitely be booking another trip to Morocco , and with YGT. Their organisation and the responsiveness was great, and even the order in which we were recommended to play the courses made a difference. Their agents in Marrakech too were fantastic. The transfers to and from the courses was extremely efficient, and even through the bustling roads of Marrakech, the transfer times never exceeded 30 minutes to any venue. I would seriously consider this as a venue for your next trip – I don’t think you will be disappointed.
