We stayed at the Sindbad hotel in Hammamet Tunisia, and played at the Citrus golf complex, mainly on Le Foret with 9 holes on les Oliviers. One day we played on the Yasmin golf course. Le Foret is a very good golf course, some very well shaped holes, with excellent greens. Tunisia is suffering from a lack of tourists due to the earlier unrest, but now it is functioning normally. But of course there were very few bookings after January, and so we almost literally had the golf course to ourselves. So this meant the service was outstanding – perhaps it always is – I wouldn’t be surprised. We were a group of six, three couples, and the handicaps ranged from 14 to 36. We were all able to enjoy the courses – Le Foret and the Yasmin are hilly, but we used trolleys and in quite a heat, weren’t too hot although the on-the-course water wagon service was pretty essential. The Yasmin was slightly less well groomed, but an excellent test of golf and enjoyed by everybody in our group.
The Clubhouse was great – good local lager-style beer at tourist prices.
The Sindbad hotel was a genuine four or five star hotel – excellent breakfast, very good a la carte in the evening. Staff provided good service and pleasant attitude. Hammamet is an easy drive from Tunis airport –we arranged transfers - £50 each way for four and about one hour travelling on a Sunday. The hotel is well situated for a quick and cheap taxi ride to the local Kasbah, Medina and Souq – we dined out three times in the town, and the best was the Barbe Rousse actually on the ramparts of the Kasbah, overlooking the bay – superb.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our golfing holiday in Tunisia – good value, well organised and definitely one to go back to.
