I just got back from a golf tour of Le Touquet and have to say we had a great time and the golf courses were all excellent.
We stayed at the Windsor Hotel in the centre of Le Touquet. The location was excellent and the bars and restaurants in the town were all just a stone’s throw away. The hotel is ideal for a boy’s golf trip and rooms are clean and tidy, all en suite and there was a lift that provided easy access to all floors which helps after a long day on the golf course! There was a nice continental breakfast on offer every morning and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
La Mer is a good quality tree lined course and on the day we played the wind was blowing a gale which made what is already a difficult golf course extremely hard to manage. The greens were a delight to putt on and were really fast. There are a number of blind holes so a sky caddie would be very helpful and save you losing a number of balls.
We teed off at 2pm and by the time we finished the clubhouse was closed so play early if you want a cheeky pint afterwards. The 1st tee is about half a mile from the clubhouse but you can drive to it and park in the car park by the starter’s hut which I recommend.
Les Pins is the jewel in the crown on the Le Touquet circuit. It’s an absolutely fantastic course in very good condition. Each hole presents a new challenge and is very pleasing on the eye. The greens are Augusta quick with not a flat putt to be seen anywhere on the course. If you stray from the tee and wind up in the trees take your medicine and leave the miracle shots to the Pro’s. This is a must play course!
Le Belle Dune was advertised as the best course of the 4 we played and we were slightly disappointed due to the poor conditions of the fairways. Again the wind played a major factor and increased the length of the course from very long to incredibly long and the wind seemed to always be against! The holes are well designed weaving their way through the sand dunes with the odd forest thrown in for good measure. All things considered this was a very enjoyable golf course.
Les Dunes was the final course on our tour and although much shorter than the others it was in no way an easy course. The course was in lovely condition with some very tight tree lined holes which severely punish the wayward. There are a lot of elevation changes on this course which places an emphasis on good club selection. The 18th hole is a monster with an elevated tee leading to a narrow tree lined fairway with the green protected by water and sand...a great closing hole.
All in all we had a very good golf trip and played four very good golf courses; all picked by the Your Golf Travel team...clearly you guys know your stuff! 9 out of 10 for the golf break and we will be back in the future!
