The Campo America is a very undulating and spectacular par-73 course, designed to manipulate the natural features of the terrain to create a formidable test of golf. Long drivers will have a distinct advantage as the course measures over 6,700 yards, but they must to avoid the deep gorges that line the fairways in order to score well.
La Cala's Campo Asia Course is somewhat flatter than the Campo America, and is arguably a less severe test, but it still offers a considerable challenge for golfers of all abilities. On this tighter but slightly shorter golf course, accuracy is rewarded rather than brute power. The small landing areas make hitting an iron the prudent choice from many tees, as the punishment for wayward striking can be severe.
Designer Cabell Robinson's brand new Campo Europa Course is equally as beautiful as the other La Cala golf courses, and is bordered by banks of rosemary, lavender and rockrose. The fairways are relatively generous from the tee and the greens are slightly larger than on the other two golf courses. The scenery is truly awe-inspiring, with the river Ojen playing a part in eight holes and cutting across three fairways.
In addition to the 54 holes of golf, there is also a recently renovated David Leadbetter Golf Academy managed by the internationally renowned instructor, David Leadbetter, means that La Cala Resort is able to provide a "Total Golf Experience" for all who visit the resort. The practice and tuition facilities include a large driving range and a dedicated short-game area, whilst there is also a comprehensive pro-shop where everything for the golfer can be found. It is one of the largest and best-stocked pro shops on the Costa del Sol, you can find hardware, clothes, souvenirs and general accessories and if something is not in stock the professional staff will do their best to get it for you.
Test out your short game around La Cala's six hole short course, which is not only extremely entertaining but is perfect for sharpening those all important skills.
Note: All free buggy offers are based on two sharing.

Just thought I'd let you know I had a great few days at La Cala, very gratetful for your advice and efficient service. The trip started off well as I got upgraded to first class on the flight out so enjoyed a champagne breakfast!! I was paired up with some real characters on all three rounds and managed to play to my handicap on the North and South courses but the Europa was super tough!! Am thinking of another long weekend at the end of May with some mates so will give you a call in due course. Cheers,
Paul thoroughly enjoyed the courses, not too disappointed about not playing America course. Accommodation was nice size and clean. Ate at restaurant and club house for lunch, both nice food good service and quick. Weather was amazing so didn't visit spa much but my couple of appointments were surprisingly luxurious, much more so than hotel, a nice surprise. The best thing about La Cala is undoubtedly the location. The view from our room over the course was amazing and it was SO peaceful there. Paul and I would definately go back and would love to stay longer and explore the area more, just need a willing babysitter for the kids!! Thanks for your help with the bookings, all the relevant reservations for golf went very smoothly. I hope this has been useful. Cheers,
The Elliott golfing party had an excellent golf trip to La Cala last week, even the weather was perfect. Thanks again for organizing it so efficiently for them. Best wishes,
Our golf holiday to La Cala was superb and we had a brilliant time. The courses were brilliant with many memorable holes. Already many of the lads are saying we have to make it a yearly event now. Cheers,
After flying from Glasgow we arrived in Spain and found our transfer waiting for us in the arrivals section. The trip from the Airport to the La Cala Resort took about 30 minutes. La Cala was about 20 minutes from Fuengirola and about 10 minutes from La Cala Mihas. There aren’t many shops or supermarkets around so you have to rely on what’s on offer at the resort. That wasn’t a problem though as the food and drink at the resort is fantastic. It is a little pricey but what else would you expect from a five star resort?
The efficiency of the staff at the resort was impressive as everything was seen to in a speedy and professional manner. The buffet-style breakfast had more than enough variety for all tastes and it provided much needed energy for the day of gold ahead. Guestrooms are comfortable and have fantastic views across the mountains and the three resort golf courses. The on-site swimming pool was lovely and even though our golf break was booked for early June, it was quiet and peaceful.
The 3 golf courses themselves are truly excellent, each with their own set of challenges. Make sure you take plenty of balls as a wayward drive or iron shot will almost certainly cost you dearly! The buggy included in our golf holiday package was a god send as we got the feeling we wouldn’t have been able to walk this hilly course in the Spanish sun!
I would rate La Cala as an 8/10. That would be higher if there was more convenient access to the local towns. As a resort in itself La Cala is straight out of the top drawer though and I would thoroughly recommend it to any golfers who are content with relaxing at the resort for the duration of their golf break.
La Cala Hotel & Golf Resort in Spain gave us a fantastic 5 day golf holiday. We were there early September as a group of 6 split into 3 rooms. The temperature was perfect at just under 30 degrees (very acceptable) and the golf was simply stunning.
Even though the region had suffered badly through forest fires (the fires got as close as to singe the edge of the fairways), and provided quite a juxtaposition between green and ash ridden land I thought it a fantastic setting. The 3 courses each provide a different challenge and were in great condition. You can tell a lot of work has gone into them, and the staff were extremely gracious in accommodating our 2 3-balls and moving our tee off times around to suit us. The courses were challenging, ranging from a tight short course to a medium to a long hard course- provided us with great variety throughout the week. There is a driving-range, about a 5 min drive away, and the hotel provided a free shuttle service from the reception at any time of day; all we needed to do was ask.
Unlike other resorts so I’ve been told, the club house is a 100m walk from the hotel reception, and the three courses all within a 3 min golf buggy drive of that. The 19th hole was great, with a nice restaurant, and a lot of recent investment has gone into it as the decor was modern and clearly recently refurbished.
In terms of the hotel I thought it had been thoroughly planned and thought through so as to cater for our blissful holiday. The rooms were clean and well looked after, with breakfast a sumptuous buffet of everything you could want to fuel up on before a long day in the fun. The staff, extremely friendly and helpful, and the Spa was a pleasant way to relax after the sun/ golf (free for hotel guests).
As a rating: no hesitation in giving this place a 9/10.
As for YGT: they did a fantastic job in sorting all out and booking with the hotel- meaning I really had little to do but make a choice of places to go!
I would thoroughly recommend YGT to a friend.
La Cala Hotel & Golf Resort was fantastic for our golf break in every area the course’s are brilliant and each different in its own way, enjoyed the spa, pool, restaurants and in particular the villa we had was outstanding. The staff were impeccable and nothing we asked for was to far, 5*service. The manager even visited us on the final hole to ask how are stay was, a very nice touch! We were set to go to Portugal next year, but after this trip we are back to La Cala instead.
With regard to YGT excellent company to deal with I was a bit miffed to get a relocation request 4 days before we were to travel however they definitely made amen's and sorted it out that we stayed on resort and provided what can only be described as a fantastic golfing holiday and that is all we can expect, would definitely YGT again they made everything very straight forward, overall brilliant.
As per our last few trips via YGT, the team didn't disappoint us, all the pre-arranged items such as airport transfers, hotel reservations and check-in at La Cala (Mijas, Costa Del Sol) and our golf reservations all went like clockwork. I had even contacted the hotel check-in desk direct in advance to try and get us a quick check-in so we could get back out for dinner which they really helped us with.
As for the La Cala resort and golf itself, it really has all you need on your doorstep with the 3 magnificent courses all within a short walking distance and even quicker with the buggies.
The 2 main criticisms I would lay at their door is the price of food and drink, which although not crazy prices, they are still expensive and soon mount up in a large party over a 4-5 day period, especially at the 19th hole, at the pool or in the lobby bar. With the resort being somewhat isolated there really is no alternative so you have to bite the bullet.
The second criticism I would have is that the Europa course was closed on the day before we played it for maintenance and when we played it the greens was awful. If we had been advised of this we may asked to play on the America or Asia course again.
I would also give anyone not being familiar with La Cala that if you don't have a car then you have to rely on taxis to get you around and the costs soon mount up even if you are sharing amongst your golfing party.
In terms of rating the resort, golf courses, food, drink and location I would rate it around and 8 to 8.5 out of ten. The issues mentioned above prevent it from getting a higher mark.
In terms of recommending the YGT team, absolutely - as per usual another great trip and all going well we will be back for more next year!!
