In addition to providing guests with easy access to Florida’s local attractions such as the Everglades and the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Lely Resort, Golf & Country Club boasts two magnificent 18 hole championship courses, both of which were designed by legends of the game thus making Lely a fantastic destination for any golfer embarking on Florida golf break.
Flamingo Island
This Robert Trent Jones Senior design stretches up to 7,171 yards from the tips which is more than long enough to challenge the big hitters while an additional three sets of tees ensure the course is still accessible for those who are slightly less prodigious with the big stick. Water is a common feature on this course so precision and good strategy are the keys to a good score. Once in play from the tee players will have to hit accurate approach shots to large contoured greens to avoid the possibility of three putting. Look out for the signature par 3 5th where the green is only accessible by bridges.
The Mustang
The Mustang Course was designed by the legendry Lee Trevino and, as with the Flamingo Island Course water is a common feature thanks to the presence of no less than 12 lakes around the course. Extensive bunkering adds another challenge as does the total yardage of 7,200 yards. Trevino’s design philosophy of making the game challenging but fair even for average golfers is evident on the masterful Mustang championship course. Generous landing areas and fair approach shots into the greens are found on most holes but the player must plot their way around the course in an intelligent fashion in order to score well.
