Originally constructed in 1886, the Welcombe Hotel is a magnificent Jacobean-style house whose grandiose character is still very much in evidence.
The façade has not changed, and the oak-panelled lounge and four-poster suites exude extravagant austerity, but all this is perfectly complemented by the contemporary style of the garden rooms and the spa facility.
The 78 en-suite bedrooms are superbly finished, and are sympathetically decorated and furnished to reflect the traditional style of the hotel itself; some rooms feature original antique pieces, while the suites are perfect for a special occasion, designed around the incredible four-poster beds. The public areas are ideal for a relaxing moment, especially on the luscious sofas that are placed next to the open fires in the lounge.
On a summer's day, the manicured Italian gardens are a beautiful spot for a stroll, and represent just part of the package that confirms how luxurious a golf and leisure break at the Welcombe can be.
The Welcombe Spa is the perfect place to relax, refresh and reinvigorate. The complex includes a level deck swimming pool with an external vitality pool, heated loungers and foot spas, while the health and beauty treatment rooms are endorsed by the world-renowned Clarins brand. For the more active visitor, there is a gym with cutting edge technology, an aerobics studio and floodlit all-weather tennis courts.
Stratford-upon-Avon's beautiful centre boasts plenty of greenery, while the idyllic canal is the focal point of the town. Stratford is obviously most famous for William Shakespeare's legacy, and it is now home to the Royal Shakespeare Company Theatre, as well as a myriad of museums. For those travelling with young families, the Teddy Bear Museum may be of interest.
If you have a private function, the Open Championship Suite, based in the clubhouse, can seat up to 120 guests.
The a la carte restaurant serves a mouth-watering menu of English and European cuisine, overlooking the stunning Italian gardens.
