The Metropolitan Golf Club was once part of what is now Royal Melbourne, but the course as it is now is the result of the split when urban expansion enforced relocation. The Metropolitan is also the result of the imagination of the great Dr. Alister Mackenzie, who left a number of astonishing courses as the legacy of his fleeting visit to the state of Victoria.

Unlike the rugged and enchanting links courses of greater Melbourne's famous ‘Sandbelt', the Metropolitan shows Mackenzie's more refined side. The layout is revered the world over for the outstanding condition of the fairways and greens, and the amazing golfing experience has seen the club host a plethora of international professional events.
The highlights of the Metropolitan's roll call include seven Australian Opens, five Australian PGAs, as well as the 2001 World Golf Matchplay Championships, underlining the strength of the admiration for the golf course. Some of the world's top professionals rank Metropolitan up there with Augusta National and the world's other ‘untouchables', so be sure to find out what all the fuss is about during your next golf holiday in Australia.
