The golf course at the Montecastillo Resort was designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, who rates it as one of his best creations in Europe.
The course hosted the cream of the European Tour for the end-of-season Volvo Masters from 1997-2001, underlining how good the Golden Bear's layout is. Since then it has received a shot in the arm with a €2 million investment scheme, which included extensive olive tree plantations, a new drainage system and GPS technology.
The beauty of Montecastillo is that despite the fact that it hosts prestigious professional tournaments, it remains a manageable proposition for the average golfer thanks to a variety of tees. The internationally renowned course is undoubtedly a highlight of Andalucia's rich golfing portfolio, and in conjunction with the tremendous neighbouring hotel makes for a memorable Spanish golf holiday.
Monecastillo's golf course receives more than 3,000 hours of sun every year, helping to explain why it is such a favourite with golfers.
The Barceló Montecastillo Resort has forged an impressive reputation in the Jerez area and beyond, not just as a result of the Nicklaus golf course. The hotel is elegant and simple, and prides itself on ensuring outstanding hospitality.
The accommodation is comprised of 121 bedrooms (104 superior rooms, 11 deluxe, 4 Junior Suites and 2 Suites), and 38 villas, all of which are decorated and furnished to echo the traditional Andalucian style, and are fitted with extras like air-conditioning and satellite television.
The attentive service that all visitors are assured of will allow guests to focus on enjoying the sights of Jerez, the locally produced sherry, and most importantly Jack Nicklaus' terrific golf course.
Montecastillo's wellness facilities include a fully-equipped Spa with complete Hydrotherapy Circuit with Hydromassage Pool, Cascade Waterfalls and water jets, Jacuzzi Jets, Hydro-massage loungers, Cold-water pool, Finnish Sauna, Turkish Bath, heated loungers and 5 treatment rooms, one of which includes a private Hydro-massage bath. In addition, on site you will find a specialised fitness area equipped with cardiovascular and muscle training equipment, two full size football pitches, jogging track, athletics track, tennis court and two outdoor swimming pools.
The El Lagar restaurant is located within the hotel, and serves a good variety of international and locally influenced cuisine.
Head to Bar del Castillo for some traditional tapas and drinks.
Of all its rich produce, Jerez is most famous for its fino and amontillado sherry.

We had a great golf break in Montecastillo and all 4 of us enjoyed it very much.
The resort was easy to find as we had a Tom Tom with us. We were taken aback by the hotel which we thought was absolutely stunning. We actually had a bit of luck when checking in. Although our YGT paperwork clearly stated that we had booked for the 15th of May the hotel had us booked in for the 15th of June. To make up for their mistake we got a free upgrade so needless to say we really enjoyed our rooms! Although the problem took a little time to sort out their response was first class and we really felt like valued customers.
The package we bought from Your Golf Travel was great value and we felt lucky to be in such a nice hotel. The food at lunch time was very reasonable and of very good quality, as was the breakfast served every morning. We decided to sample some local restaurants on our second night and found Jerez to be very nice indeed. The Bar del Castillo at the hotel was a great place to relax after our rounds of golf. The tapas and drinks were perfect.
The Jack Nicklaus designed golf course was great and we all thought it was equally as good as the courses we played at Penina on last year’s Algarve golf holiday. I knew it was a good course because I had seen the Volvo Masters on it but I think the recent injection of cash has made it even better than before!
Overall our golf holiday scored a 9 out of 10. Your service was very good with prompt responses to our queries and the whole experience seemed very well organised. Thank you very much YGT! We have used your services before and you continue to impress so we will be back.
Montecastillo was the destination for our recent golf holiday to Spain and I am glad Your Golf Travel recommended it to our group as it was one of the best golf resorts I have ever visited and the whole golf trip was a roaring success.
We were very impressed by the quality of the hotel complex and its facilities. The rooms were good and served their purpose well and the hotel is conveniently situated just a 10 min taxi ride from Jerez airport. Breakfast was of a good standard and the service was efficient and friendly. The beauty of the place is that you can just walk a few steps from the breakfast room onto the first tee.
The Jack Nicklaus designed golf course was in very good shape and we absolutely loved the layout...I ge the impression Mr Nicklaus knows a thing or two about golf?! They also allow buggies on the fairways which made it so much easier and quicker to play the game...there’s nothing more frustrating than leaving the buggy on a cart path, walking across the fairway and realising you actually need a different club to the one you have in your hand! Thumbs up to Montecastillo for eradicating this problem.
The resort is off the beaten track and as such the only place to venture out to in the evenings is Jerez. It is well signposted though and if you don’t mind spending a little extra there is no real need to leave the golf resort.
I have found the service from Your Golf Travel to be very efficient and professional and will continue to make bookings through you for our future golf breaks.
Our golf break in Spain was fantastic so we thought we should thank Your Golf Travel for arranging everything. We spent our time in the Montecastillo Resort where the golf course is well suited to players of varying skill levels. It was in pretty good condition considering the amount of golf that gets played on it!
The hotel and accommodation were good value for money, and drinks and food were reasonably priced as well. Overall rating for the resort was 7 out of 10. The speed and quality of response from YGT staff has been good throughout and I would certainly recommend you to my golfing friends.
We enjoyed our golf holiday at the Montecastillo Resort, the hotel staff were excellent but we found the food although good quality was a bit boring and not always hot. The main thing that would prevent us visiting again was the price of buggies (42 Euros, 300 Euros for a week!) and the high cost of a taxi from Jerez airport only less than 20 minutes away (£89 for 2 with 1 set of clubs, 1 hold baggage both ways). The course, although challenging, had very wet fairways due to watering but with many of the lakes dried up and overgrown and with long strenuous walks over roads between many of the holes.
This holiday was one I chose myself and was good all inclusive value for money but next time I will ask for your recommendations of Your Golf Travel.
