Just a quick note to say thank you for the booking at this hotel, it provided one of the best golf breaks we have had and the resort should be at least 5 stars. It had everything we wanted and more, we will certainly be looking to book through you again.
Many thanks,
Bruce
To quote William Shakespeare, “Can one desire too much of a good thing?” Maybe one can, but if one does, one can always find it on a golfing break at Morley Hayes.
Nestled between the villages of Smalley and Morley on the A608 north of Derby, the entrance to Morley Hayes is difficult to miss. The drive down to the hotel (built since our last visit there) takes you past the substantial driving range and the 9-hole golf course that are integral parts of a golfing, hotel and restaurant complex that gave my wife and me a most enjoyable golf break last week.
Arriving early, as we often do, we found our room wasn’t ready, but reception asked housekeeping to make it a priority. In the interim we snuck over to Rooster’s Bar for a coffee, and then made our way down to the golf pavilion to have a gander in the pro shop. It was very well stocked, though much to my wife’s dismay there were no women’s clothes at all!
Our return to the hotel found our room ready: the emperor bed, sofa, flat screen TV and very well equipped bathroom were topped off with a view of the 4th green from our Juliette balcony. Unpacked, we sojourned to Spike’s Bar, a first floor establishment in the golf pavilion overlooking the verdant 18-hole golf course that we were about to play that afternoon. A bowl of soup and a sandwich later and we were ready to hit the fairways.
We’ve played Morley Hayes a few times and it has never failed to impress. The course is well managed: fairways are generous, bunkers well stocked with good sand and the rough (semi really – it’s a bit like Augusta in that respect) is deceptive as it does snag when trying to play out of it. The greens are in excellent condition and run consistently, though they are by no means quick.
The course offers a good assortment of holes: dog legs, short par 4s, deceptively long uphill 4s playing into the wind (especially the 18th), a variety of par 3 and 5 holes and the odd surreptitiously encroaching patch of water. It is a strong test of golf no matter what your standard. One day I’ll play it well!
Our meal in the evening was served in the Dovecote Restaurant, above Rooster’s Bar. The service was excellent as was the food. I’m often a bit wary of eating steak in pubs and restaurants as they don’t realise what a pernickety so-and-so I can be, but I chanced one here and it was cooked to perfection. Breakfast was served in a downstairs breakfast room in the hotel. Again there was an excellent choice of delicious, well cooked and beautifully presented food. (I can recommend the smoked salmon and scrambled eggs.)
All in all this was a first-class midweek treat of a golf break, made even more so by the staff at Morley Hayes and Your Golf Travel who had to change our dates at the last minute thanks to another golfing break, this time my wife breaking a rib playing out of a bunker!
This was an excellent, top-value, golfing holiday. I’d recommend the course, the hotel and the restaurants – and the service from Your Golf Travel – without hesitation.

I think the below highlights our exceptional golf break with Your Golf Travel and Morley Hayes.
This was our first golf trip with YGT and our first visit to Morley Hayes. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left our golf weekend felt very special. The team at Morley Hayes catered for our every need and provided a feel good factor throughout. From the Pro Shop service, to the course marshal, who frequently asked us if we were being held up; catering for our every need seemed to be no trouble.
The golf course was in excellent nick considering the thunderstorm storm the day before we arrived.
For our high-teen handicaps this course was ideal. Fairly open but some tricky water hazards well positioned for drives and 2nd shots. Single-figure handicappers may find this too easy for their liking!
The Spikes Bar facilities were great, the hotel excellent and the dinner in the Dovecote restaurant was simply superb with the ever-smiling and friendly staff making the whole experience very relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable.
We will most definitely be back for future golf trips to Morley Hayes and will certainly be booking all of our future golf holidays with YGT. I even got a text as I pulled into my drive on the way home to make sure my weekend had gone well...mystical!

Morley Hayes was the scene of our recent ladies golf break in August. We all thoroughly enjoyed the golf trip and thought the service from Your Golf Travel was excellent. The hotel, staff, food, service and presentation were all excellent. Our hotel rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean with a superb walk-in shower, large comfortable beds, and excellent amenities. The food could not have been better and we thought everything was good value for money.
The Manor golf course was a little tricky, but was enjoyable, and some goods scores came in. The greens were excellent and so were the bunkers although I would have preferred not to have visited so many of them!
All in all, the organisation was first class. Your Golf Travel were helpful, efficient and the price of the golf break was more than competitive. We would all like to return to Morley Hayes, and I thoroughly recommend Your Golf Travel.

Our recent golf break to Morely Hayes was great and we thought we got a tremendous amount for the money we paid.
The golf course was long but the fairways were forgiving and there wasn’t a huge amount of trouble waiting for errant tee shots. There were quite a few water hazards as well and we enjoyed the overall challenge of the course. After the golf we enjoyed a drink back at the bar again sitting on the pavilion overlooking the course which was lovely and very fairly priced.
We found the hotel without any problems and we were welcomed warmly. The guestrooms were excellent and had all the modern touches you would need on a weekend golf break. I have stayed in some nice hotels in my time and Morley Hayes is up there with the best!
Luckily the weather was fantastic and overall the golf break was a great experience that we will look to repeat in the future.
Course 8/10
Hotel 9/10
Staff 9/10
Your service 9/10
In fact the only thing that spoiled the trip was my score!
