The week sees the World’s top players take on the glorious links of Royal Birkdale. There has already been talk of Tiger’s absence taking a bit of lustre off the Auld Claret Jug, but I personally think a lack of Tiger will put more pressure on our home grown talents, so I’m going to back Garcia to come good after last years trauma at Carnoustie. He has grown in stature in recent months, most notably in the Player’s Championship at Sawgrass, this combined with his top-30 finish in 1998 as an 18-year old amateur on the Open’s last visit to Royal Birkdale will surely put him in good stead for a challenge this week.
