Following an absence of 112 years, Golf will feature in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janerio. Few would be able to name the previous Olympic medal winners but Golf has featured in both the 1900 and 1904 Summer Olympics in Paris and St. Louis respectively. Charles Sands took gold in Paris while Canadian Goerge Lyon took the spoils in St. Louis.
The 2016 games will feature 60 players in both the women's and men's competitions with the top-15 golfers, according the world rankings, given entry regardless of their nationality. The remaining places will be filled by golfers, based on world ranking, with a maximum of 2 per country that does not already have 2 or more from the top 15.
As it stands, Team GB would be represented by Donald, McIlroy, Westwood, Rose & McDowell. The four round event will be contested over the newly constructed Gil Hanse course. Hanse was selected over the likes of Nicklaus, Player and Norman with his recent designs at Kingsbarns and Castle Stuart as well as the redesign of Doral's Blue Monster, the IOC have gone with one of the most popular golf course designers in the world of golf who will no doubt create a great course which will provide the perfect stage for this great event.
