The Atlantic Course is Penha Longa's main attraction, and was designed by the esteemed Robert Trent Jones Junior, the man responsible for so many of the world's top courses. The 6,786 yard course is now ranked as one of the top 30 golf courses in continental Europe, and features many dramatic holes that are cut through the resort's amazing sloping landscape.
The course is divided into two distinct sections, with six holes running through a valley and the remainder straddling the hillside. Penha Longa is consistently regarded as one of the country's top five courses, and was the host for the Portuguese Open twice in the mid-1990s, and the Estoril Open in 1999.
The Atlantic Course may be the star attraction at Penha Longa, but its sister, the 9-hole Monastery Course is well worth a game. The layout is less undulating than the Atlantic, and is certainly not as challenging, but the views of the Sintra mountains are awe-inspiring, and are worth the trip alone.
Penha Longa's estate is rich in history, with its fourteenth century roots most visible at the landmark monastery, which has frequently been a retreat for the Portuguese royal family.
Set against the spectacular backdrop of the Sintra Hills and the massive forests, the hotel is an elegant palazzo-style construction, and is a luxurious haven for your next golf or leisure holiday.
There are 194 rooms in total, all of which are tastefully decorated and furnished to provide truly luxurious accommodation. Standard features include large marble bathrooms, plasma screen satellite televisions, high speed internet access, laptop compatible safe deposit box, and the finest linen and bedding, while the views from the private balconies are astounding.
Penha Longa is without doubt one of the finest destinations in Portugal for a luxury golf holiday, where the quality throughout is undeniable.
Penha Longa has an endless list of activities for guests to enjoy, including tennis and squash, horse riding and running, while there are also indoor and outdoor swimming pools and a state-of-the-art gym. The recently refurbished Six Senses Spa is among Portugal's finest, utilising the most sophisticated therapies to promote a holistic approach to well-being. In the nine treatment rooms you can experience the best in health and beauty therapy, while guests can take advantage of the jacuzzi, contrast pool with waterfall, and the beautiful relaxation area.
The Assamassa dining room is a delightfully elegant dining room where you can enjoy the finest Portuguese cuisine, while Midori restaurant serves gourmet Japanese dishes.
You can relax with a drink overlooking the golf course in the Hole In One bar, or visit the open grill at the poolside Serra Bar.
At the opulent RC Bar, you can select from a list of luscious fresh cocktails, complemented by your choice of genuine Cuban cigars.

We had a great time on our golf holiday, Penha Longa was far and away the best course we thought. We also really liked Estoril, even though it was quite short - it is a really good course for 18-24 handicappers. Oitavos was nice, but harder because more exposed to wind and a bit longer. Enjoyable though. Thanks for your help,
WOW!!! We had such a fantastic golf holiday at Penha Longa Hotel & Golf Resort. Most importantly we got the most amazing upgrade to a beautiful suite which had THE best view of the course and was just super - I’m sure it was all down to Your Golf Travel that we got this fabulous treatment and I can’t thank them enough! They were falling over themselves to be nice to us and it was just the most lovely place and the course was good too (shame about my golf though!!). The concierge at Penha Longa were brilliant, the food amazing, the course in great shape and it was good weather - couldn’t really have asked for anything more (except a pint was £9!!) We definitely fancy going back there!
