Quinta do Lago's South Course is one of the most prestigious in the Algarve, having hosted the Portuguese Open on eight occasions. Measuring 7,095 yards, the layout is cut through the undulating hills and pine forests, and was designed by William Mitchell.
The South Course is certainly a stiff test, even for low handicap players, with strategically positioned bunkers, threatening water and severely sloping greens. The course is demanding, but should not overawe the average golfer, and with superb views on a number of outstanding holes is a fantastic place to enjoy a round of golf.
William Mitchell joined forces with Joseph Lee to create Quinta do Lago's North Course, which opened to visitors in 2000. The North is 6,561 yards from the championship tees, and is generally similar in style to the South.
Distance from the tee is not of great importance on the North Course, but being accurate is crucial. There are a number of tricky dog-leg holes, while the North is most renowned for its par-5s, particularly the closing hole, which demands a fine drive over water and between the encroaching fairway bunkers.
The latest championship course at Quinta do Lago has been carved out of an orangery by Santana da Silva. Measuring 7,065 yards the par 72 layout consists of well guarded greens that provide a great all year surface and testing narrow fairways. The scenic location is complemented by the beautiful features of the course, umbrella pines, corkoaks, orange trees and five lakes which form part of the water recycling system.
Quinta do Lago's South Course was the setting for Colin Montgomerie's maiden professional title - follow in his footsteps around this Portuguese gem.
Quinta do Lago is a special place, surrounded by some 2,000 acres of rolling hills and pine woodland, overlooking the picturesque estuary of the Ria Formosa. Perfectly complemented by attentive yet discreet service, guests will enjoy outstanding accommodation in a world of luxury.

We just got back from our Portugal golf tour and would like to thank Your Golf Travel for all your hard work. As a collection of courses the ones you recommended for us were the best we have ever played on a golf holiday.
We stayed at the Quinta do Lago Resort and it was one of the best we had ever experienced. The service we received from the staff at the hotel was perfect...attentive but not in your face! The two restaurants were great and we didn’t need to venture away from the resort for food. The Spa and all the other facilities at the resort provided the perfect place to spend our time away from the golf courses. The sea views from our rooms were an added bonus as well!
We played all of the courses at Quinta do Lago. The North course was our favourite but only by a whisker! The final hole here was probably the best finishing hole I have ever played. Although the South course is the more prestigious out of the three, we felt it was a bit too long for our tastes and surprisingly it was not in as good a condition as the other two. We felt the Laranjal was a great course but understandably needs time to mature seeing as it is only a couple of years old. I would say it will be an absolute gem in about five years time.
We also played the Old Course and the Royal course at Vale do Lobo. The Royal Course was the star of whole golf holiday and we all thought the famous 16th was worth the trip alone! We can certainly see why it is the most photographed hole in Europe! The Ocean Course was a good support act but had a hard time living up to its illustrious sibling!
All the courses were in amazing condition and the greens on all five courses were some of the best we have ever experienced.
All of the transfers were arranged to perfection and we arrived at golf courses and the airport in plenty of time on every occasion which was a big plus because we could just relax and not worry about timing things.
As far as your service goes it was the most professional and efficient we have experienced for some time and we will definitely be booking with Your Golf Travel for future golf breaks.
First of all I would like to thank Your Golf Travel for organising my recent golf holiday in Quinta do Lago...it was awesome!
The tee times your secured for us were perfect for two out of the three rounds. In fact, we were first off at the South Course and absolutely flew around! I never thought I would play a better golf course than the Brabazon at The Belfry or the Ocean Course at Vale do Lobo but the Laranjal topped the lot! It really is a tremendous layout with great views. The hills, trees and bunkering really define the holes without being too penal. The greens on all of the golf courses were in great condition and overall we found them to be testing but overly difficult.
Also, the weather was incredible at 30-31 degrees every day. All the family had a great time, not just the golfers, which speaks volumes for the quality of the resort. We are already looking at dates for next year’s golf break and we are longing to play these great courses again. We will be in touch soon as Your Golf Travel are clearly the way to go if you want a hassle free golf holiday.
