Founded in 1735, the Royal Burgess Golfing Society is one of the world's oldest golf clubs, and it remains today among the very best golfing venues in the Edinburgh area. While conveniently located near the city centre, the course occupies a delightful area of parkland, and is a superb test of championship golf.

It was only in 1894 that the Society moved to the present Barnton site, having previously cohabited with the Honourable Company, Bruntsfield Links and Royal Musselburgh further east on Musselburgh's Old Links.
The Royal Burgess is spread over relatively flat terrain, and although its length of 6,487 yards is not the meanest, the course certainly favours the skilled ball strikers. Position from the tee is vital, with thick rough bordering the fairways, especially in the summer months, but a long tee shots undoubtedly present the best opportunity to attack the flags.
This charming course is overseen by one of the city's more austere clubs, where tradition and heritage are of huge importance. Without doubt one of Edinburgh's best, the Royal Burgess is a tremendous golfing experience.
