HIGHLANDS & INVERNESS

The Highlands of Scotland, though sparsely populated, provide a great selection of golfing treats, most of which are based on the remarkable natural landscape. If a golf break is a form of escapism, then the Highlands may be the ultimate destination – barring Inverness, there is little in terms of urban development, and you will often have the freedom of the golf courses.
The major epicentre in terms of golf and leisure is Aviemore, a winter ski resort that also boasts the MacDonald Highlands Hotel and the phenomenal Spey Valley golf course. While Aviemore is the best purpose-built destination, the Highlands are peppered with fantastic golf courses, led by Royal Dornoch, and ably supported by the layouts at Tain, Moray, Brora and Nairn, which hosted the 1999 Walker Cup.
Many of these gems are relatively unheralded, and are best experienced from a base in the city of Inverness, whose rapid expansion is thanks to the fantastic atmosphere it boasts. If you feel like getting away from it all and escaping to some top quality golf courses, then a golf break in the Scottish Highlands is the perfect solution.
